This is amazing! Thanks for sharing. I'm a big Doors fan and never heard this before. It's cool to hear this raw versions of great Doors songs and I can easily see the importance of Paul Rotchild's work in the production of the Doors' albums. He turned beautiful songs into classics with a very peculiar and original sound.
the doors themselves more honed everything over the following 2 years playing little bars all around LA...as jim's singing ability rapidly developed, and as ray switched to organ, and robbie was added on slide guitar, and what not...they also improvised like mofos and debeloped even more, and explored...thus, their unique sound was "found"....jim is green as F here, obviously; rothchild has said he just set up mics, and let them go...the first album was a lot of, if not first, then a lot of live, in the studio, type-takes.
dont get me wrong, its completely reasonable to comment what u did...their developement/evolution was fast, and staggering...really a "meant to be" kind of thing.
The addition of Robbie on guitar was a big reason for their sound to evolve for songs like Moonlight Drive and obviously their signature Light My Fire which he wrote. They had the Doors sound before Rothschild
These demos are fantastic before they were fully worked on. 2 yrs later you would hear the difference when they featured these songs on their albums. In 1968 Hello I Love became a hit. In these demos it proves that Ray Manzarek is a great piano player. He proved to be a great organ player. It also proves the Doors were an Electric Blues Band because after these demos they took these songs into another level. The Doors music would eventually become interdimentional.
@@ndogg20 Jim sang all songs' lead vocals on September 2nd 1965 World Pacific studios Aura demo acetate. Ray, on some songs, sung the vocal harmonies counter-chant, second voice.
Finding the formula is not easy. Krieger would have to arrive, Manzarek solve the bass issue and divert Morrison to a baritone voice to finally distinguish himself from the rest.
That is what I love is his baritone which is his real voice. You can hear it when he talks. Maybe the shyness kept it at bay until he got more confidence.
That's a gross over simplification. Paul Rothschild was to the Doors what George Martin was to the Beatles. Without Rothschild no amount of Manzarek or Krieger could have elevated the Doors much beyond L.A , think Seeds, Love .
Can't believe I missed this over the years. This makes me smile as a senior citizen. This proves they had great material before 1967! Thanks for posting. Made my morning!
So true. There's that dated surf sound and the constant wailing harmonica, but the lyrics are on such a higher level. As is Ray Manzarek's keyboard prowess.
Unbelievable! Thanks for posting. Jim voice seems so young and Ray is right there. To think that 1/2 a world away the Beatles were already mature and slamming away. So glad I lived in these times.🙏
Thanks for uploading. The treatment of the songs is here is pure 60s pop. It’s amazing how much his voice and the style of The Doors developed from here in a such a short time. End Of The Night is the closest to the Jim we know. :)
Amazing archive of their early talent. As years go by I'm amazing more and more of their creative genius. It was as good as the beatles, and just as original. As I heard from a generation X'er, "They don't make bands like they used to."
Wow. How much they evolved through 1970. You can hear their potential but also the amateur hesitation found in anyone just starting new in their field. ✌🏼
I'm glad he started singing in a baritone voice. This sounds more like the kinks and early stones to me than the doors. They had such a great sound when they found it
Got chills. I've heard this hello I love you and Summers almost gone before even though I've never heard them before..it's in my memories..anyways the last song "go insane" is full on where The Cramps and The Cure in the 70s got some influence from that style.
this is so great, thank you!! I think it's unreal how much Doors stuff there is for a band that was really only around for 4 years,I mean think about that for a second --what they accomplished and did in only 4 years,it is unparalled IMHO.And i'll add they missed woodstock.....The Doors and Jim will live forever
jim morrison on lead vocals and tambourine, ray manzarek on piano and backing vocals, john densmore on drums, pat sullivan on bass, jim manzarek on harmonica, rick manzarek on electric guitar
This is excellent! You can hear the genesis of a great band. They had the fuel, they had the oxygen, they just needed the heat to become truly explosive.
This amazing...this would been their first album....it would of worked....this should of been released!!!!....wow....Thay already had their sound!!!!... Fantastic 😎
The Doors are my favorite band . I used to get annoyed when people tried to say they ripped off " All day and all of the night " on " Hello I love you ". I think early on the band was influenced a bit by some Kinks songs. There's even a little bit of " You've really got me " in " My eyes have seen you ". Not enough to call it plagiarism. Really surprised I haven't heard this demo in all my years. Very nice and thanks for posting it. Cheers.
There's even a LITTLE BIT of " You've really got me " ???Not to make an issue over it but its You Really Got Me' to the T with a few extra beats/chords added after the main riff.

I've recently been listening to the two post-Morrison Doors albums ('Other Voices' and 'Full Circle") and trying to process those (they're not good, despite fine musicianship). So this is the embryonic stage. I can only conclude that the Doors with Jim Morrison, Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore were infinitely greater the sum of the parts. Every member had great strengths, but everyone needed each other to make magic. Great to hear this stuff though.
Other voices and Full Circle were indeed pretty weak. That said, Krieger and Densmore formed the Butts Band in 1974 and this group has a couple of very good songs. Manzarek released two solo albums and then two albums with Nite City. In my opinion Nite City contains their best post-Morrison work. Highly recommended for every true Doors fan.
A great unique demo, where The Doors as we know are just almost there, very close. "Hello I love you" reminded me of a mix between The Yardbirds and Them
Those who voted down did not mean to vote down, their thumb just didn't reach far enough because they were really drunk or too stoned..... wanting to in regards to press up.... thumbs up

I have noticed that the song Moonlight Drive was kinda bluesy in my opinion and the doors changed my life for a long time but I still listen to them for fun lol

I've been listening to The Doors for 28 yrs, and just learned that lyric thanks to you, lol.

Fascinating stuff. They were a bit old-fashioned for 1965 in some ways, way ahead of the curve in others.
So true. There's that dated surf sound and the constant wailing harmonica, but the lyrics are on such a higher level. As is Ray Manzarek's keyboard prowess.
Right. I can’t tell if it sounds like some type of 1930s song or a eaely 60s beach song
They never tried to be mainstream. That's what made them unique.
Yeah dude, definitely. JD got his brushes in full swing. His jazz influence always there.
The rawness of this recording is just immaculate
