This is great to hear how Jim sounded when he just started singing,he sounds ok although his style and phrasing hasn't been perfected yet. When you listen to how this song and Jim's voice evolved on the Album version,is how Jim started to take you on a personal journey in his songs.Jim Voice would become soulful, confident, dramatic,if he was singing to your subconscious, thats what made Jim so different and great.
This track just shows you how much Robby's guitar made to the Doors sound, just as much as Ray's continental did!. Jim sounds so green here, it's incredible how fast his voice matured.
you can notice he was younger but his voice is clearly perfect here, didn't hear this demo so is weird the gloomy feeling that surrounds the whole song with jim singing that great lines back in 65.now i'll listen this song instead of the original
Thank you so much for uploading this. Just been reading about it in the bio by Stephen Davis. In it he just says "a girl bass player", so thanks too for being clear who she was.
Morrison basically taught himself how to sing, out of nowhere. In many early recordings its obvious he can't really sing good. As the albums went by i think his voice got better and better. He grew greater control and range. Listen to the 1970 New York live box set-- its got amazing clear quality and Morrison sings reaaal good, and its not even his best.
This is part of the history of The Doors. The person singing is indicated on the pamphlet as Ray Daniels. For me, it doesn't sound _anything_ like Jim. However, the phrasing is very much the way Jim sang, so Jim either sung this song before he used his genius mind and Nietzsche will to mold his voice into what it became, or he was immensely impressed by the Ray Daniels' vocal phrasing. From what I've discovered on Google, this *is* Jim. Hard to belief, but many things about Jim were like that.
@udor1962 - I am truly amazed! It bothers me that there seems to be a whole chapter in the Doors history that was left out of some of the books, and the movie. I guess they can't include every detail but this is a pretty big thing to leave out! Oh well... at least it provides us with more interesting versions to listen to... Thanx for the response...
@ThEmIdNiGhTiNtRuDeR - Thanx!! - That's a good point. I am thrilled with all of the early & live recordings that have been surfacing over the past few years..
Hello people; this is the REAL JIM MORRISON. ..the first Jim Morrison of the 1965 when he was NOT capable to sing...he learned to sing during 1965-1966-1967....
@dreamwad1 in German is "Let the dead rest," there is a saying But perhaps we are "Krauts" as too old fashioned? ;-) but I am say also "forget not the souls with inspiration in his experience to this time"
listen to the whole demo's recording, don't you think that if this is fake this would have a guitar?? this song is when Robby wasn't in the band yet, so YES this is Jim
Well said. I really appreciate the expressiveness too - sounds like he is genuinely mourning summer at the end of the song. It is Jim singing though rather than Ray - the southern drawl is unmistakable. The background vocals sound like Jim too
@ThEmIdNiGhTiNtRuDeR - Hahaha _ I guess, but I believed that hype about Jim walking up to Ray on Venice beach and singing "Moonlight Drive." The existence of these earlier demos means it wasn't quite so dramatic.. Unless the "Venice" story was pre-1965?? - IDK - Please shed light if you can... Whaaaaa!
This is a demo and the group Morrison's voice sounds tentative. Also no guitar which makes the released version. Always some who will say they like the stripped down version even though it is miles from the released version.
"I'm even more upset that the wimpy vocals on this version might actually be Jim" I, as I am soon to have a first gig ever, am finding it very very comforting... But this is the funny side of things, when Jim was not yet the singer he would be something like two years later, after some experience, and the Doors hadn't done it yet, the mythical lizard king god sounds just "wimpy"..It just shows how artists don't have space to evolve and time to become who they are, when someone is already nagging.
I get where you're coming from, but if you listen to modern singers and then to this, I don't think you'll be as keen to call it wimpy as they generally sound much wimpier.
Robby Krieger has not yet joined the band. Jim Morrison - Vocals Ray Manczarek - Piano & Vocals John Densmore - Drums Rick Manczarek - Guitar Jim Manczarek - Harmonica Patty Sullivan - Bass
I don't think this is Jim at all. I know the B/S story that Wikipedia (The worst source for information) has about Rick and the Ravens but I think it's inaccurate. I've read all the Doors books and I've heard the story about Jim and Ray meeting 100 times (and once from Ray himself when we met in 1983) and the first song they worked on was Moonlight Drive. Jim and Ray weren't old college buddies, they met on Venice Beach and Jim recited his "Moonlight Drive" poem and "My Eyes have Seen You."
You must not have read the books then! Because I have and I can tell you that while in college, ray manzarek created a student film in which you can see jim in the background. They weren’t “old college buddies” but they knew eachother because they took the film class together, As everyone did back then
Now I find lots of conflicting information regarding this "demo track." I am upset that the information that I believed for all of these years may be inaccurate! Was Ray just spewing a "convenient" story to make things sound more interesting?? That bothers me... I'm even more upset that the wimpy vocals on this version might actually be Jim!! I don't know what to believe anymore! I guess Jim said it best, "I'm just gonna get my kicks before the whole shit-house goes up in flames!"
the demos of The Doors sounds so dark, like all his music but this songs are their first and that's why they are very special, no other band sound like this, so dark haha, until Black Sabbath came, The Velvet are kind of boring haha, The Doors are the best
Love these garage band sounds from early years.
Jim was a natural. Self taught singer.
this song reminds me the life I never lived
Ditto!:(
and YES, this is Jim singing.....

Amazing ot hear Pre-Doors.
This track just shows you how much Robby's guitar made to the Doors sound, just as much as Ray's continental did!.

I like it more than the original
This is the original. From their earlier band.
Totally Jim singing.
Thank you so much for uploading this. Just been reading about it in the bio by Stephen Davis. In it he just says "a girl bass player", so thanks too for being clear who she was.
*MORNING* found us calmy unaware 🎵🎶
James Douglas Morrison

Awsome! I thought it was Ray singing when it first started.

Amazing crooner Morrison
If you can't hear its Jim singing you aren't really doors fans
You know it!
exactly
Jim's voice before years of booze and pain. The greatest frontman to do it. It's amazing what this band created in a few years ...
Hello people; this is the REAL JIM MORRISON. ..the first Jim Morrison of the 1965 when he was NOT capable to sing...he learned to sing during 1965-1966-1967....
Michele B. He sounds just fine to me!🎤🎶
Nice !
Classic!
Amo....The Doors....
my most favorite doors song ever. ❤
Ravens 4-ever ! 😊
rock and roll yeah
My favorite Doors song.
This demo is hot ! 😊
@dreamwad1

Wish I could find a way to play the the piano in this song but in the guitar , it sounds like a fun doodle if it can be figured out
I wish I can un-listen to this so I can listen to it for the first time again
It is Jim singing with Ray singing back-up. It doesn't sound like the Morrison from the records because he was still learning how to sing...
LEGAL ESTE SOM... LEGAL THAT SOUND
it is Jim for sure...and I prefer this version much more than original
doesnt sound like jim and it even alludes to that in the information given for this recording..it says it is rick and the ravens
This is the original
@@mr.mojorisin1218 . I think he means the 68 version.
@dreamwad1
it is jim ( look in the post)
Esta bonita está versión la diferencia es que Jim Morrison le ese toque de melancolía que está versión no tiene.
The Southern accent really comes through on this Demo.
I came for umbrella MC
@udor1962 Is Ray Manzanek who sings and Jim does the background vocals. Great piano rhythm and I love the intro, very expressive, poetic and romantic.
Well said. I really appreciate the expressiveness too - sounds like he is genuinely mourning summer at the end of the song. It is Jim singing though rather than Ray - the southern drawl is unmistakable. The background vocals sound like Jim too
ray and jim singing
@lemurianchick that's Jim....I know it sounds strange but these are early works.
I believe that is Ray singing, Jim background
It's Jim... Need not say more..
Whaaaaa!
Jim and Ray on the beach happened in the summer of ‘65, and this was recorded a couple months later on 9/2/65.
I mean the studio version
Its Jim .
This is a demo and the group Morrison's voice sounds tentative. Also no guitar which makes the released version. Always some who will say they like the stripped down version even though it is miles from the released version.
sounds like Ray singing
It's Jim.
This is WAY better than the version used on Waiting for the Sun!!!!
I prefer it too. Would have been more at home on the first album, like Moonlight Drive.
@@al_5655 . Yes, along with Indian Summer.

@@genghischan69 they’re quoting another comment dude
Nova no canal....
This is Ray's voice
No it's not.
Yes it is 100%
SO this is NOT the Doors???? It is Rick and the Ravens? I dont get it..
demo sounds really better then later record. in demo - there is a hope for better future.......and original sounds very depressively
@pacnwcomre yes I agree, actually that's kinda of what I've tried to say haha
... & a demo is no a live show - do you understand ?
Where's Robby?
Robby Krieger has not yet joined the band.
Jim Morrison - Vocals
Ray Manczarek - Piano & Vocals
John Densmore - Drums
Rick Manczarek - Guitar
Jim Manczarek - Harmonica
Patty Sullivan - Bass

judge, judge, judge.. that's all you schmohawks know how to do. too much tv lately? de-program your head and then listen to this track.. DAMN!
pretty sure it is, but sure doesn't sound like Jim. possibly bc th he others are backing.
the demos of The Doors sounds so dark, like all his music but this songs are their first and that's why they are very special, no other band sound like this, so dark haha, until Black Sabbath came, The Velvet are kind of boring haha, The Doors are the best
So obvious when the background vocals kick in that that's where Jim is. Not the lead.
Its Jim on lead.
The more I listen it is Ray singing (almost sounds like Robbie singin in Running Blues).
Not Jim sorry
Sorry, it's Jim singing.
These "demos" sound like someone fooling around on RUclips. It is SO not Jim's voice. Actually they all sound like Weird Al Yankovic!
Someone else is singing this, not Jim...
The performance is fine but this is not the sound of Doors. It's trying to emulate some other band's sound.
Ray's brother singing
Absolutely NOT Jim Morrison singing on this track. Not a chance.
Its Morrison.
@RcUniverseGuy I prefer this version!
sounds as FAKE!!!!!!!!! no Jim voice sorry
Believe me, it's Jim.
Not Jim
I love this ... Fuck everything jim sang is gold
se me hace mejor esa version en demo que la que grabaron en waiting for the sun
Not Jim
