Good video but you missed the last obstacle on gold mountain. Right after the bone yard (rock garden) you turn right at the downed tree through the rock garden. Fun trails up there. Stay safe and happy trails 👣
Your rigs are set up nice! You mentioned it in the video but lockers would have really helped out. Gold Mountain and John Bull can be run without lockers but may require more use of the skinny peddle. It looked like a long day but that’s part of the fun. Any day on John Bull in flip flops is a good day. In glad you made it out. Looking forward to the next adventure.
So glad I watched your video. I was up there a few weeks ago and turned around at the gate. I always thought closed gates meant stay out. Not - stay out unless you are able to climb over. But all was not lost. I went around and entered from the other side and ran it in both directions. Super fun. Now I have an excuse to go back and run it again when I return from the Rubicon. Enjoy!
Those that say that a "WJ can't do that..." are ignorant of the WJ's features. Coil springs on front and rear solid axles; narrower, shorter, and lighter than a 4 door JL; a unibody chassis that is much more stiff than anything body-on-frame; and with some very capable transfer cases; there isn't much that a WJ can't do. A 4.0 WJ can tow 5,000 lb, a 4.7 WJ can tow 6,500 lb. The best a JL can do with any engine is 3,500. I'm not making those claims, Jeep is. I'm not $hittn on JLs. They are awesome off road, but they aren't the only Jeeps with off road cred. Damn, I can get a lot of gear in the back of my WJ. And it's a lot easier to get stuff up and down from the roof too. Heck, I've slept in the back while camping at least a half dozen times. I remember the first time I went off road with my WJ. I literally went where there was no road. Driving on private land across a logging clear-cut. Floating over rocks and bushes and downed trees and stumps and washouts. It was effortless, and I wasn't even in 4wd. A stick did jam into my plastic lower fan shroud and pull it off. The fan survived and we soldiered on.
Can't believe the drive shaft gave out before the cv axle shaft.I have been building wj's for a while. You"re doing great for not having lockers. When you get lockers you will never look back. Makes it much easier on parts also. Great video. I like the narration.
Thanks ! Ya I think we came down on the shaft hard earlier. And cracked it. But also I changed out the u joints not long ago and didn’t have the tool so I just banged on a 19 mm socket. Maybe I cracked it then, I don’t know. 🤷♂️
I was there this past weekend and the day grew long and we ended up doing a little over half the John Bull trail at night. I will say, night runs are something else.
Love your videos and your WJ is sweet. I have a WJ with a 6 in lift on 33s, setup for overlanding. Consider exploring Anza Borrego or Ocotillo Wells this winter and let me know wife and I would love to come along. There are great trails and great views down here. Cheers.
What’s the setup on these Jeeps? I have a 99 wj with IRO 4inch lift on 32s. Pulled up the gold mountain gate keeper and decided against it, not enough clearance. I also do not have rock sliders or any skid plates.
Also if you don’t have an high clearance off road bumper you really have to come into the gate keeper sideways to get you pasananger tire up watch the blue Jeep do it. Once we got a WJ with 3 inch lift on 32s up there it was a bit of work but we did it last time up with the silver jeep..
Haha. Well I like your style! but shit happens and we love the pace at which we are roiling ! We love the things we’ve done to the jeep and it is what it is! Cheers!😎🙌
Come on man, give credit where credits due. you have me only 3seconds of video time. how about your group walked over 2 hours to find us and it took us 30 mins navigating in the dark with no pin or clue where you party was stuck.
I’m sorry man! someone said don’t record you.. so we didn’t. my cousin Gabe did get a little but most of it his fingers were all over the camera. I am really thankful of your help. And my cousins that walked.all that way…( there my cousins so they know I was thankful ) but it was tuff to finish that one without any footage late into the night. But really you guys were awesome! 😎
Great adventure! I've been crawling my ZJ for years. I have 2 WJ's but my wife won't let me take hers into the rocks. Thanks for the fun.
@@ModelTTime 2 WJ’s is the only way to roll! lol 😂
The blue WJ in my videos is mine as well But! Thanks for checking it out! 😎👍

What a great adventure!!! Love the video and the suspenseful music!
Great video!
Check out Barrett Lake jeep trail. Challenging but fun and the lake is awesome camping. 35s minimum and rear locker is a must though
Alright next up I’ll throw than in the list! 🤟😎

Love these things and I keep pushing it and it keeps on taking it! 👍😎

@@rhinooffroadrecovery ya tuff trail loads of fun!
Great videos. Nice dub jays. 👍
Thanks! It was a great trip!
My WJ was bit by John Bull too. Had to limp back to San Diego on a broken axle cv joint
Damm! We were so close too!

Dang sorry I missed your message! I love it over there but gotta check that out in spring aye.
I've been waiting for this, so good! I'm getting Gee'd up for a WJ as my next project now.
Haha! Thanks man! Ya those WJ’s are pretty Damm cool .. now time for an upgrade on the drive shaft and some more under armor! 🤟😁
How did the 4.0l 6 compare fuel consumption and performance wise against the v8's? Excellent channel, well done!!!!
Well we only have v8s in our group so I’m not sure .
epic watch..
Thanks! I was a crazy trip!
Its a Jeep thing, to break down
lol.. true but I’ve seen plenty of CV joints broke on the trail aswell!
Cheers!

There 4 inch rock with adjustable control arms on 33s and a lot of trimming around the wheel wells

Need to spend less money on overlandy bolt ons and more on things that actually make a difference, like lockers.
