      Does Android support RAW video shooting? I am aware that Android phones with Camera2api can capture RAW photos but can Android phones shoot RAW videos? It would be really if someone could create an app that can shoot RAW videos on Android phones.

    99.9% of iPhone users will not be using this feature, much less need it currently. It's partially the reason I opted for the base 128GB version (don't need much local storage for my needs). 1 Minute of 4K footage is about 6 GB, not only is that a lot but the worse issue is getting it off the phone. You're going to spend a good 45min to an hour trying to get off 15 minutes of footage to edit. For average users, just not practical.
    Who's it for? it's really targeted for content creators who can use the format to splice in with their normally edited/graded content. Maybe need to take some footage in tight space or on the go or something. Even then it's not practical at 4k due to crappy lightening port. One of those features you can fool around with once or twice and that's about it.
    Maybe if they finally update to USB-C next gen and higher GB versions get cheaper, It'll be worth it in the future.

    • @moes2168
      @moes2168 2 года назад +1

      @@user-ev2gv9zk2t Another reason I didn't get the 256gb is because if they do update to USB-C, I'll likely trade in and get that. There is no difference between trading in a 128GB or a 256GB, so I knew I would never use 256GB and I would never get my $100 back either. I'm usually someone who uses the phone until it dies but honestly, with the trade in offers these days just to keep you as a customer, you can upgrade for practically nothing.

    For working content creators this is a GREAT feature. ProRes is an amazing option to have on a mobile phone. For everyone else, its not going to make much of a difference.

  • @ChristopherAshworthpage
    @ChristopherAshworthpage 2 года назад +19

    ProRes will allow professional content creators to colour grade for SDR and an HDR workflows H264 and H265 are not acquisition Codecs. Long GOP colour files can fall apart when stretched too far I.e. gradation stepping becomes apparent. Additionally ProRes is less computationally intensive on a timeline for any given edit suite. But you might say…”I’ve got a MacBook Pro Max.” Well The single best thing you can do to increase your ability to edit faster is to use an acquisition codec like ProRes which is not as compressed and makes it easier and much faster for the computer to work with and render.

    footage looks nice... some people complain about the file size.... so do just like you would if you are shooting with a Blackmagic 6K Pro... you use a 1tb SSD for the footage.... I just tried this last night.... iphone 13pro max... use the USB adapter... plug in the Samsung T5 SSD card... After you shoot the footage you open the " file " app then from the pictures app you send the footage to the file app and it will load the footage to the T5 SSD.... now you just plug the T5 into your computer for Davinci editing... works perfectly.. also... you can shoot two different ProRes formats.... with the Iphone 13Pro it will shoot ProRes HDR and if you use the App called Filmic Pro you can shoot in just ProRes or 10bit Log.... the 10 bit log footage colors very well in Davinci.... latter, good luck

    Dunno if I can tell the difference between HEVC vs Prores in just this video, but with my 13 Pro Max, I can certainly see where the difference emerge. From what I can see, prores retains a lot of the smaller grainy details where as the default HEVC carefully smudges the finer details. This is most notable if you take noisy video. Like you said, prores is really only if you intend to edit/composite the footage. The benefits of prores only apply in a production pipeline, and the slight visual improvement vs the massive file sizes makes it impractical for videos you just want to snap and share.

    I found the low light footage tests that I did to be rather disappointing, I did think ProRes would be a noticeable winner there. It's a nice to have at the moment but does set up a bright future for mobile film-making down the line. With larger cheaper storage, and faster transfer speeds more people will use ProRes more. Nice walk through!

    Nice video, well done and concise! When comparing visually, you can see a difference between ProRes and camera standard, if you take the time. It's packing more information into the file, hence the larger size with a wider gamut. Great for grading. But you're right. The average grab shooter probably won't use it on a day-to-day basis.

    Thanks mate! Yeah, not a huge leap in quality. What I notice is ProRes shots seem to carry more volume and three dimensional rendering, if that's a thing. Objects separate better and have more volume. Once you see it, you realize that that is the difference, not necessarily the pixel or artifact count.

    Great video, thanks for sharing! I think the biggest difference with ProRes footage would be it's flexibility to be color graded. I am not a "content creator", but I like making vacation videos with GoPros, Drones, etc. I could see myself wanting to use ProRes only for when I know I will be creating a compilation video. It would have been interesting to see how the default video & the ProRes video reacted to light, medium, and heavy color grading. I doubt either file could be manipulated THAT much before it's such a small sensor, but I would expect very little image degradation for light & medium color grading on the ProRes video vs. regular.

      The only way to fix flicker is to use an App like Filmic Pro, which will allow you to change shutter speed or frame rate.
      Flicker happens from the electrical grid 50Hz and 60 Hz .
      Normally if you shoot at 24 fps, your shutter speed should be set to 1/48 . ( This creates natural motion blur )
      So depending on where you are in the world you have to change 1 of them ( shutter speed or framerate) so that it is in sync with the local HZ of the country your in.
      This will stop the flicker.
      In Great Britain, the grid frequency is 50Hz. In the US, it's 60Hz
      So if in GB you could set your Frames per second (FPS) to 50 in the USA set it to 60fps to match the electrical grid .!
      In the native app for the iphone decides what shutter speed to use based on what you choose ( i.e 4K @ 24 fps / 30 fps/60 fps)
      Because the aperture is fixed on the iphone the shutter speed is adjusted for correct exposure.
      This is why you might see flicker...Hope it helps.
      Also in Filmic App there is a setting for 50HZ, 60HZ and Auto flicker setting ...FYI
      PS I have nothing to do with Filmic pro App...LOL
      Good luck

    Great review and sample clips bro. I'm contemplating upgrading to a 13 Pro and exclusively using the iPhone to film my entire Turkey trip next month instead of taking my DSLR. Maybe I'm asking for "too much" from a phone lol, but I'm a bit bummed that cinematic mode is capped at 1080 30fps and ProRes does 4k but only at 30fps. I enjoy using slow motion b-roll footage in my videos so not having 60 fps in those modes at least is a bit of a let down. I guess I could simply stick with the native app, which I'm sure will do a great job as it is, or shoot at 1080 then scale up when editing.
    On that note, I wonder if 1080p 60fps pro-res is sharper/better than 4k 60fps non-pro res! You're so right though, is it really worth having to burn money on all of those extra hard drives!! lol 😂

    I have a 256gb 13 pro max is this enough ? And my question is whats the difference between the Pro Res and normal video??

    • @apoorvsharma6999
      @apoorvsharma6999 2 года назад +1

      How would he say whether it is enough?Depends on your use case. He showed how it was showing 102 minutes of recording for 4k on Prores on 1TB iphone 13. He really made the video on whats the difference between Prores & normal & at the end of it you are asking the same ques.

    • @EMKWANREVIEWS
      @EMKWANREVIEWS  2 года назад +1

      Your 128GB will only record 1080p for ProRes but that’s still very good

    People are watching your 4K H264 SDR "This is ProRes for iPhone 13 Pro..." instead of 4K ProRes HDR.

  • @pinakmiku4999
    @pinakmiku4999 2 года назад +1

    I didn't see any difference in normal and prores footage you showed! Most people share videos on RUclips for public to watch which compresses video so prores is useless for most except maybe for production but in that case the lighting port is a bottleneck. They will instead prefer a professional prores camera as time is money for those production teams! People shouldn't get fooled by prores

    • @EMKWANREVIEWS
      @EMKWANREVIEWS  2 года назад

      This will only make sense to those that understand and need ProRes. Majority of iPhone users won’t fall in that category.
