An interesting thing would be for manufacturers to release figures on the maximum power they were able to achieve prior to dialling it back to something safer, I would almost bet my money that they do some pretty intense dyno testing among other stress testing

Ben, thanks for setting us dummies straight about that. Common sense should tell anybody that the OEM's favor reliability over performance. Even performance cars have to meet the emissions standards, or else they can't legally sell them.

This SHOULD be common sense to most, sadly it is not. And oem's are smarter than SOME, not all ...

Accounting for restrictions on mpg, and emissions... They know better than anyone

We’re looking for real world tests, not for hp. We want efi for reliability and nothing else.. well they should work for years in my opinion..

Good vid. Maybe some examples of what OEM does that tuners "fix".

These are really great, they address real concerns in a relaxed entertaining manner.
Please keep them coming, they’ve become anticipated gems 😊🍻

what he saying if your car stock leave it along unless you are doing bolt on like heads cam especially mustang guys soon they get a Stang they do a tune stock engine dumb then wondering why it not running right

The only one that sounded like an idiot is this guy. I love when people point out the obvious, and think they are the only one that realizes something. Most tuners are tuning cars that have some mods done to them and the tune helps take advantage of the changes with a gain in power. A good tuner does take reliability & drivability in consideration when setting up a car. The only people that usually go to the extreme are the racers.

These guys are far from being idiots. Your choice of words are offensive in the hotrod engineering circle....
I worked in oem GM engr of these things he described, very accurately!!
I agree with his point. Many " carguys" a r ent as knowledgable as others who are more immersed or professionally work in the industry.
Using words like "idiot" here is....well.....it only makes us wonder about you.
These guys have been deep into this segment for a long time....and are incredibly knowledgable. I would bet Mr. Strader was only making a short accurate video to remind some about why our production-based engines/cars have so many things that ,to the avg carguy, makes it seem that oe engrs dont know what they are doing.
GM engineering also has to deal with
UAW issues!! More than you might think. We test in n. Michigan in January, DeathValley in summer. Pull trailers up DavisDam in June, Pikes Peak and frigid Gunnison, Colorado. And everything demands more changes & compromises!! It is a constant ratrace....And he described it PERFECTLY.
      Lets be polite.

Can't imagine being as dumb as OP myself

Retired OE Performance. Dev. Engr. here. The OE guys & gals tend to know what they are doing and they have the advantage of much better test equipment and product info. They tend to have advanced engineering education, which is an advantage and sometimes a millstone. They have the practical constraints mentioned by OP and more. If you look at OP’s other stuff on RUclips, you’ll see he is no idiot. I think he is more switched-on and data-driven than most.
