Yo the legend was ahead of it's time. It was in my opinion the best car ever made for acura. Acura made a stupid mistake by not continuing it. Brings back serious memories. Congrats on the car
My '91 4dr had a straight-through cat with a Magnaflow muffler, and a fairly long list of custom performance upgrades. It sounded so close to this video, but the 3.2 had slightly tighter and higher tone. I just couldn't get over the resonant hum it had at 35mph, drove me crazy. This video makes me miss my Legend. T-boned @ 50mph, 600 miles from home.
238K miles at death, near pristine shape mechanically. would probably still have it today with a new interior and 500K if not for the accident.
hey man i seen your swap write up on the forum nice work!! you deff gave me the drive to do the swap myself.
My dyno since the new computer chip was 208hp, and 239 ft lbs torque. I still have a very restrictive Y pipe on the car. Headers have been purchased, and will be installed soon. Part 2 is being filmed now.
MAD PROP DAWG YOUR LEGEND IS A BEAST
These were so fuckin' rare to see with a 5 speed! I think it was one of the most sort after models back then!
The Acura Legends are literally fast in stock form. My dad had one and it sounded like a F1 car if you were on the phone with him, And yeah the newer ones had RWD also. Acura should bring em back, they would make a shit load of dough.
Got a new TL, but still have the Legend!
Love what you did with it.
Thats one sick legend dude!!!
@acuratlnigga no problem at all to rev it that high. the redline is there for a purpose, that said it's safe on any honda/acura to rev all the way up to readline. Also on BMW, audi, volvo, saab etc.. I can't speak for american brands wich break as soon as you look at them.
Yo that hidden gas cap makes yo ride foneky. Thats the bomb!
Not bad, Just finishing up a forum members Legend and getting mine ready for this year. Good to hear from you
holy this car this bad ass.........
@Homfridus This car has more torque than horsepower. Last Dyno was 200 hp, 218 ft lb torque at the wheels. I have done a few mods since then, like Type II cams, Type II y pipe, improved exhaust flow. It's not the fastest thing ever, but it's a very fun car to drive. Don't get the Legend confused with 4 cylinder Hondas, the engine block is the same that they used in the NSX, just with SOHC instead of the NSX's DOHC.
So much more you can do. I had Indiglo Gauges and an Acura emblem on the back that glowed Red wen id press the brake. (like a viper)
@Homfridus this is one of the few hondas with more tq then power. its quick and the c35 is lighter then the c32
i've always loved the legends, sigh if only it were rwd
a 3.5L RL engine puts out 225 horsepower and 236 ft lbs torque at the crankshaft. My 187 horsepower and 218 ft lbs torque is at the wheels. Most Legends dyno at about 175 hp and 180 ft lbs torque in stock form. I also found that I'm running extremely rich at wide open throttle. The RL's throttle position sensor is telling the engine computer to allow more gas through the fuel injectors. Once I install the correct Throttle position sensor, I should gain a bit more power.
impressive
The 3.2 and 3.5 of the '90s had an aggressive sound right from the factory, let alone a throaty exhaust setup. Man do I miss my Legend. I got nonstop compliments on the sound.
@datdaz84 That's a good price for a swap. Here in NYC,some charge daum near $3000 for a swap! Good thing I don't live there anymore, lol! But nice Legend you have!
@Bahzad23 yes, if you go to europe(today) acura rl i actually honda legend
@datdaz84 well of course it's bad for an engine to lie on maximum revs all the time, but it will really have to be a long time before the engine gets lies in the hazardzone. You never have to be afraid for the engine, even long term, to rev a hondaengine to redline as long as you keep an eye on oillevel and heat.
man that is the nices legend i have ever seen and this one is one of a kined for sureeeeeeeeeee lol
you got that right!!
I built the engine myself. I'm very sure it's a C35A. You're probably thinking of the J35A that comes in the 05-07 RL and 07 TL. The C35A was produced for the 96-04 3.5RL. It's definitely a 3.5.
I notice your engine is mounted longitutal. Did you do a complete rear wheel drive conversion? I couldn't tell if your front wheels or rear wheels were spinning. Nice car either way.
@datdaz84 umm, it redlines at 6500rpm, so, no problem at all to rev it that high eaven stock. It's a honda, not a yank, it can take it without a problem, I should know since I owned a stock Type 2.
My car I have now revs to 8500 before redline..stock... holds up nicely, just keep check on the oil when you drive a highrevved car.
#1. All Legends up to 2004 came with a VIS system, not a vtec system.
#2. I work on my own car, I don't really care if I break something. I'll fix it.
#3. It is safe for me because I have found the limits of my car and use them. I would recommend not beating the living shit out of your car unless you have the money or knowledge to back it up.
Thanks, I didn't know that.
MikeDiaz Mike, how did you do the rear tail light? Any links to it?
Legend Coupe are better looking than the sedans
Telion chipped ECU, k-sport coilovers, polyurethane suspension bushings are my newer mods.
@bandoboy32
The Legend never came with a 4 cylinder. It came with a 3.2L V6 and I installed a 3.5L V6 out of a 96-04 Acura 3.5RL
@ShAwNeXsHeN all honda passenger cars are FWD except the NSX and S2000
At least the ones marketed in the US that I know of.
I worked in Belden for 2 years. I still live in Canton, but work in Akron. My car is stored for the winter. I got new paint, new coilovers, and hopefully soon, boost.
I plan on it. It will all come with time (and money)
about time you get back Mike. So how the shop running?
You pretty much have to stop by Akron Horsepower. Talk to George when you go there and tell them Mike Diaz sent you. He knows how to tune imports if you have an AFC. He has the wideband O2 to regulate your a/f ratio.
Lots of new goodies. I got a new video camera, and I'm a bit better at editing it now. I'll start making it here in the next week or two.
That is one HOT Legend. Thank you so much for sharing.
love te hood and love the motor... wish my 93 type 2 had this done to it but i just dont got the money
That is a nice Legend. Great work!
I'll be working on my TT project this winter. I'll definitely post a video when it's done.
i would love to race you to see how much of a difference it really is.
Nice Legend bro'!
@Islandsproductions He asked if it was healthy for a car to rev that high. Well, it's safe, but not healthy for an engine to be at 6000 RPM all the time
from the looks of this video you have to have way more than 200 and 225. they come stock with 230 and 206 so something is not right
My first run on the dyno was 187 hp, 218 ft lbs torque. That was 100% untuned with the stock Type I ECU. After proper tuning and small adjustments, I expect to be at 200 hp and 225 ft lbs torque at the wheels. Camshafts and headers will yield much greater results, but this project is on hold because I'm building a large garage to house all my projects. Check out "acura-legend dot com" for more info on performance modifications.
Nice sounds like a beast
very nice , i bet that shit pulls and pulls hard!
wow this thing has SOHC Vtec must be fast :P. j/k, Mike how thing going? you still have this Legend? what about the turbo legend project you work on before? what do you have now these day beside the chipped from Matt, I still missing my 5spd lol.
Love this vid and that idea for the gas light. I really want to find someone willing to sell a 6spd coupe in still somewhat good condition and do some performance mods on it. I'm actually surprised at how well made the Legend series is compared to other cars.
@bloodraing Not at the wheels. I have some new performance mods, plus I've had the car for 7 years. I know how to drive it to it's limit.
thanks for the reply, but im still a bit confused, lets use acura tsx as an esample, i watched the review and the reviewer mentioned that the tsx being a high rev car allows you to drive all the way to 6000 rpm before shifting, i want to know if thats healthy for the car.
thanks
If you use a Dynojet or Mustang dyno, you'll probably only show about 170 horsepower at the wheels. The Legend usually shows a 15% drivetrain loss through the transmission and axles. If you have an automatic, it will likely be less than that. Factoring that in, I likely have 240hp, and 275 ft lbs torque, lol
yo ur car is freaking sexy how u put in it all together i got a six speed i wanted to put the rl motor in mine too but im too broke and that red 350 looks too wat did it put out on the dyno
@ShAwNeXsHeN to answer ur ? despite the positioning of the engine, its fwd
Kevin, C32A 3.2L V6. TypeI
& TypeII
I'm looking at 220K on mine now, and it is still stout. Mike, still loving this vid sir!!!!
super sleeper
Mybad, it's a 89, i had it backwords - typo
is that tail light thing a acura legend this or is that your genius
No turbo, all motor. I have a while until I can afford to properly twin turbo this car.
i want to know what i have to do in oder to get my motor like your. I have a 1992 automatic and i want it to have mad speed
Hey Mike so you still have this coupe or you on a force induction one now?
This is for anyone, I just got a 93 legend and I need to replace the leather on the seats. Anyone know the best place/best website/lowest price for replacements? Any help would be great!
I have about $6,000 invested in the car including the purchase of the car. I performed all the modifications and all the work on this car myself, so I save a lot on Labor.
i have a question, is all that high reving shifting good for the car? please let me know, cause poeple are saying the vtec system can handle reving all the way to red line. so is it safe for the rngine and suspension? please let me know
thanks in advance
WTF are you talking about? The dyno showed over 200 horse, and 218 ft lbs torque at the wheels, naturally aspirated, with the stock computer. I no longer have the stock computer.
I built it myself with a welder, some sheet metal, and a lot of time. I would build another one for about $400.
would be nice if you could fit a nsx motor in there
You only have about 8,000 miles more than me :)
how hard to replace into the RL engine and do you have to running into any wire harness and ECU?
is there a 3.5 rl engine in there? how did it fit, and how did u get the manual transmission to be compatable?
sick move with the engine swap!!! Props!...bet it was some hard work.
do u know how much horsepower and torque ur pushing out? im trying to get my legend much faster
I still have it (being repainted as i type) and I'm working on a Twin Turbo Legend.
so is the second coupe will be getting some boost soon? I can't wait until then. Let me know when you want to sell the car again mike :P.
that car is sick !!! soo when are you selling it haha
Got the hayame muffler from another Legend I had. You can find them online. The rest of the exhaust is custom bent.
really sweet spin out bro. i have a question, does it do any damage to the car except wear out the tires?
ahhk... maybe i have to take off the cover then huh??. my 'rents got an '01 Legend 4DR, sorry bud my mistake! Lovely car btw, I've jus got a stock 3.2L at the moment.
The M/T swap isn't as hard as you think. You need the clutch master & Slave cylinder, the pedal assembly, the shifter assembly with rods, the transmission, the clutch, and the flywheel. You don't even need to swap computers. go to acura-legend dot com to find out more.
are the acura RL the new legends?
is that a turbo in there or what is that?
@LOONEYKTG I have $4000 in upgrades on the car. That's with me performing all the repairs and upgrades. Nobody touches my car except for me.
A thief would have no chance in getting far since
he or she will not be able to find the gas tank on this Legend. LOL
Fucking Greet Car :) I LOVE LEGEND :) GOOD JOB MEN :)
@olutop1 what does ur gps system have to do with u going from 0 to 60?
where did you get that exhaust from?
what year is the actual legend? i have a 91 coupe how much will it cost me please
go to acura-legend dot com and check out the forums. I wrote a DIY in the performance section that tells you exactly what you need to do to perform the swap. It does bolt in with very little fabrication.
They didn't make a Legend in 98. They were made from 86 to 95.
i have a 91 legend i wanna do the same shit too i have replaced the motor and trans in mine after alot of research and previous experience with blown head gaskets on it urs is pretty hot im from ohio as well we should throw a meet
any updates lately?
Funny, I just bought a 99 RL. All RL's are Legends except in North America. I'm badging my RL as a Honda Legend.
no i mean your other mods?
LOL He Said "Dont Mind The Mess" LOL Whats Mess Ur Cars Clean.. Nice Vid.. I Was Gonna Get A Legend But I Got A 1998 Nissan Maxima Instead :P
so, its a rebadged prelude?
@datdaz84 are these rwd? i cant remmeber
