    About This Video: Optometrist, Dr. Vijay Shenai, describes a few differences between online eye exams for glasses and in-person eye exams. Few of the cons of performing an online vision assessment can result in inadequate glasses or contact lens prescriptions. You will learn that seeing an optometrist or ophthalmologist will not only help you feel confident that you received a correct prescription but also assure you that your eyes received a complete health evaluation.

    I though I had found a great eye doctor, she was friendly, knowledgeable, has every test you can do and imaging, is like $115 bucks for the everything exam with the imaging but the problem that seems to be everywhere around me with other doctors I have talked to or seen, they all have eye glass salespeople in their office and push really hard on you buying their $500 glasses. I told her that I just wanted my prescription and she was like "why are you going to buy glasses online?" so she went from nice to rude because I didn't want to buy glasses. I just want a eye doctor and a prescription not a pushy rude salesperson, she even talked about how high her rent is, even charges $55 to get your PD.....
    . a good eye doctor is like searching for bigfoot.

      I get it! Eye exams are one thing that should be done in-person. But where you purchase your glasses/contacts/or anything else prescribed will always be up to you. I will say that we get a lot of business from poor quality glasses from online stores, so I will try to explain to my patient why I would not recommend going online for glasses, especially if they have moderate-high prescriptions, astigmatism, and/or progressives, becuase I feel like it's my duty to fight for my patient's best interest, but I understand that it can could across as a lecture or condemnation as opposed to advice and concern. I hope you are able to give your eye doctor the benefit of the doubt and take it as she is trying to help and protect you. Also the costs involved with in-store glasses comes from the quality of the frames/lenses and assurance you get with it. Our office fights insurance companies and labs for our patients to get better warrantees and replacements parts and lenses when needed. Most online stores will not. Hope this helps!!

      The sales people were probably the worst part. I was traumatized as a kid with one lady even yelling at me and my mom. There were other times where sales ladies would insult the other customers choice of glasses. One time they even wouldn't let me pick the model I wanted. I have been to many different places f or eye care and still have yet to find a decent one 😢

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare
      @TrueFocusEyeCare  3 года назад +5

      Unfortunately, many are unable to afford routine health care, and there are cheaper options to get new prescriptions online without a health check, but most sight threatening problems that I see in our office are from those who only see me when there is a problem. Most eye exams do not cost more than $100 in my area, so if I were put $10 per month in a jar each year, then I could have enough for the exam and a cheaper pair of glasses if needed. Not sure where you live or if you could affort putting aside $10 a month, but taking care of our health now will prevent major problems in the future.

    I just wanted to say that I received an eye exam from an eye mart express near my home and got two pairs of glasses made with that eye exam. Now when I received my new glasses I could see fine at a distance with my new glasses but couldn’t see things up close with them on. The thing I thought was strange was the glasses I replaced I didn’t have that problem with. When I went back and tried to explain to them that I thought there was something wrong they refused to do anything about it. Stating that it was because of my eyes aging. Which didn’t make any sense to me that my eyes would have aged over night or that one pair of glasses would allow me to see both far and near but not my updated ones. So I feel like sometimes you can get a bad eye exam in person also. I had to deal with using my new glasses because I had paid almost $400 for the two pairs that I got. Any thoughts?

      Sorry you had that experience, Ted. Just like any profession, you have places you go to because you're in a pinch, and you have other places that will bend over backwards to make you happy. There are a few things that may be affecting your vision, but the fact that you can see clearer far away and up close in your old glasses tells me the new prescription is too strong for you. Now if you are in your low to mid 40's, then that extra Rx could make your distance vision clearer, but will uncovering the beginning stages of Presbyopia (loosing the ability to focus up close). Either way, if your not happy, I would see if you can get a refund and try somewhere else. But if you have the same problem again, then it's probably the later reason.

      That is against the law for them to hold your prescription. Let them know that you will call their state board and report them if they don't give you your prescription. They don't have to give you your PD measurements because that is not part of the prescription, but you can measure that yourself.

    Thank you very much for your presentation. I've bought glasses many times over the years, @ about $700.00 here in Canada. My eyes are not the same ... believe me, I use them all the time. I can't seem to get a pair of progressive glasses that I can see through properly. I'm told that I just have to get used to them. What does that mean?

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare
      @TrueFocusEyeCare  Год назад

      There will usually be an adjustment period for the eyes to get used to any new prescription, differences in frame shape, and curves of the lenses. There are so many types of progressives out there, and some can be harder to get the eyes to be comfortable with them. Sometimes changing the progressive can give you the relief that you are looking for.

    • @emilydavidson6258

      Hellp Shalini, as an Optical dispenser (Optician), generally I would suggest an exam every 12 months. However, this does depend on your eye health, any underlying issues and family history. I say every 12 months as this allows us to keep track of any changes to your eye health as well as the vision. This doesn't necessarily mean you will need a new Rx every time, it just allows us to ensure you eyes are as healthy as possible and allows for early detection of any potential issues. As far as your online purchase of glasses, I would suggest that the lens coating may have delaminated as the prescription is not a coating, it is the lens itself which corrects your vision. Try to avoid hot environments (e.g. leaving glasses in the car) as this can cause delamination. Not saying this occured due to yourself at all, just something to keep in mind :) hope that answers your question.

    Hi True Focus,
    I often dreamed of working with an OD, on long-term prevention.
    That would mean that I sign a contract with you -- where I make my own refraction measurements, and you check for true medical problems.
    That would mean that we both succeed with my life time prevention.
    I know that Optometry "boards", will never allow you to do that.
    That is my, "scary story", for me.

    • @TrueFocusEyeCare
      @TrueFocusEyeCare  Год назад

      We do these partnerships all the time. The legislation of it all is that you would need an opticians degree first, which takes 2 years to get. This regulates that not just any person off the street who says they have the next best cure for vision loss does not go around making people go blind because their treatment was right some but horrible for others. This has been done, and that is scary to me.
