    Thanks for the video, If I renew my Indie and spend the $100 will I have access to the Deform tool?

      If you take a look at the description of the video I broke down all the updates for 24.2 and which features are in Studio only. Square and rebuild surface/face are the two new tools that are studio only. Deform is a tool that should be in both Indie and Studio versions.

    This looks like amazing software but as a total newb to CAD, I have to admit I'm completely lost. I'm working through your Speaker tutorial and it feels like it assumes at least some familiarity with the terminology and functions. I've run into the same thing with the Udemy "Plasticity Modeling Guide" course. Can you recommend a tutorial that starts with the basics? Something of a "Hello World" for CAD using Plasticity?

      So sorry about that! I do have other content that will get you started if you are completely new.
      ruclips.net/video/9cgBK8ljH1k/видео.html
      This is probably a good place to start.
      That video has a UI overview in the start and walks through some general modeling. We did update a UI video here:
      ruclips.net/video/_GnQypbKshM/видео.htmlsi=pqs8rCI_etxEeF9z
      We also have a getting started modeling series which assumes you have played with it a bit and focuses more on workflows.
      ruclips.net/p/PLBDfGh8A8kXVIrO1aizPFmRBy-A-G9svk&si=S0lEDdacx95fZJah
      i will add both of those links to the first part of the course so others can have them as references.

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign no need for an apology! The fault lies on my end, I’m taking up a completely new hobby, it’s just part of the learning curve. I really appreciate the material you’ve produced so far I just don’t have the foundation to take advantage of it fully, yet!
      Thanks for the additional links I’ll dive into those this week after work. :)

    my issue is that you cannot click the measure tool to resize a circle afaik.
    there are also no constraint.

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  28 дней назад

      If you have a circle selected and hit "=" you should be able to resize it. So if you say enter 50mm when creating a circle. then select it, hit = and type 55 it will increase its size.
      Yes there is no constraint system other than snaps and snap points. It would be really great if it were easy to draw a line then make it tangent to a circle after the fact but I am not aware of a way to do that currently.

    There is still a lack of Match Curve and Match Surface. It will come out very perfect.

    Any idea if general file management on Linux is working yet? Will file open/save/import/export dialogs appear in the foreground, or still hidden (and modal) behind all other open windows? Will the same dialogs open at the last accessed folder for each of the different file access dialogs? Will file name extensions be automatically added to a filename when saving/exporting, if you don't manually add one?

    I'm following it along and it just keeps coming up as Failed Operation. I can't even get it to deform to the object to figure out positioning or modification. I find it strange the sheet project instead of just selecting the actual object that's deformed to a selected surface. Why the middleman?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  2 месяца назад +1

      Sorry it isn't working for you! It is picky about the inputs If you email me i can send you a simple file to test to see if it works.
      On how the tool works the way it does I can't say for sure but it would seem that it needs the input of the planar reference first to set the size/scale/position of the planar object before trying to deform it to something else. I suppose in the background they could just unwrap the selected face but then the position wouldn't be right.

    • @storybyosmosis
      @storybyosmosis 2 месяца назад

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign thanks. I dumbly didn't have the object selected when I started the deform command. I thought the command applied only to the sheet and target object, seeing that's what is specified in the command panel. There's various commands that start with and without an object selected in Plasticity, and target different objects in different orders, so it gets a bit confusing

      @@storybyosmosis I understand! There is a channel called PixelFondue. He does quick tips on each tool more like a help file style video. Tool tips or documentation on each tool would go a long way. I have thought about creating that but just don't have the time to document it all.

    Fusion 360 still useless in flatten/ deform or match surface

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  2 месяца назад +1

      Right, you need Inventor or Solidworks to be able to flatten a surface. Match surface works ok in Fusion with "replace face". Also when you are in direct modeling you can convert a face to a subD form and tweak it similar to "Raise Degree" in plasticity.
      BUT the deform and unfold commands in Plasticity are awesome!!

    Ive been trying to upload a mesh of a 3D scan onto plasticity and the mesh always comes out WAY bigger in the CAD than in real life.... did you encounter this at first and how did you resolve it?

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  Месяц назад

      What units are you using? When you do import/append you should get a unit dialog in the bottom left of the screen. If your mesh was exported as mm and your units in Plasticity are mm then you should be able to keep its scale if you select mm on the import dialog. If things are wildly different its likely using Meter as the base unit so a factor of 1000 is likely needed.

      @@LearnEverythingAboutDesign i go import/append.. then a window prompts where i search for file… then I click open. That’s it, no units or anything popping up in the left hand side. I don’t use the most expensive version of the software but that shouldn’t matter… should it? V 1.2.1

      @@c.d.m.3821 Hmm, thats odd. I tried it with both STL and OBJ imports and both give me the import dialog on the bottom left. It just says Import and lists units and that's it. I know the indie license has some limitations on file export but wouldn't imagine it wouldn't let you pick the units on import.

    So is 'Mesh Snap' is retopolpgy??

    • @LearnEverythingAboutDesign
      @LearnEverythingAboutDesign  2 месяца назад

      Sort of. Retopo is typically something thought of as redoing a mesh. With plasticity there is no mesh to mesh retopo. What you are doing is defining a curve or surface based on an underlying mesh.
