    I ❤ Frontier spices and herbs. A good Italian seasoning is a must. I will share my blend with all of you ! This is a small batch , so do a little math if you need to. 3 T Basil, 1 T Oregano, 2T Parsley & 2 tsp Thyme. This is a favorite in my house!! Adjust as you please. Make something wonderful this year and enjoy.

      Frontier Co-op is great! I came here to say that. Starwest Botanicals is also a go to for me. Both of these for herbs, spices, and dried elderberrries. I love that I can buy them in bulk. In fact, that's his I discovered Frontier when looking for their ground Chipotle pepper.

    I use pumpkin pie spice mix for many things. I add it to banana bread in place of just plain cinnamon or other muffins that are fruity. Sometimes it kicks up applesauce a notch, whether homemade or out of the jar, Cobblers, or fruit pies, where apples are involved is also another way to use pumpkin pie spice. I just wouldn’t go too heavy on it. Apple cakes and spice cakes can be enhanced with pumpkin pie spice also.

    Oooh! Fun! I hope Santa brings you a dehydrator for Christmas and a great find we found was a combination “coffee/spice grinder “! We grow and dry our own garlic, onions etc ( many veggies!) and we are learning to use the seeds to regrow everything and dry preserve and bottle our herbs! My girlfriend gave me a great little handheld machine to seal the air out of the jars! No brand name for the vacuum sealer just “vacuum mason jar sealer “ but the coffee/ spice grinder was by “Black &Decker” 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was gifted with an AHsome jar of wild garlic leaves with salt from a friend that was dried from her scavenging and we use it a lot now! We grow and dehydrate and grind and bottle everything now herb wise now! We also have kept some of the herbs growing in planters in the basement grow op this year! You’re right! Nothing beats fresh and definitely cost effective! Apparently you can grab some fresh basil and put it in water, root it and plant to continue growing! ( haven’t tried that one yet myself though!)
    Yes! I have a doggy like him attitude wise 🤣 and an adopted kitty ♥️
    Again! Thank you for these ideas and? By the way? Your pronunciation of “Montreal” sounds exactly right! Most Canadians don’t even do as well as that!!

    Thank you for sharing all these blends. I was going to start looking for a chili one and now I don't have to.
    I love the snow. We don't get snow in Florida so I think folks are lucky that have the White Christmas and your dog is gorgeous.
    On a different note and I hope its okay if I say this. I know there are a lot of spice companies out there but, there is one that I absolutely love dealing with. They are a small family owned company and their customer service is wonderful. Its call "Spice Inc.". They have a pepper blend that is out of this world. Its called "Pennsylvania Pepper" and I love it. Between my brother and I we have ordered several things from them. We usually get a pound of something and then split it between the both of us. Shipping is pretty fast and if you order over 50 bucks its free. If you're looking for a good bulk spice company, I don't think you would be disappointed using them. I don't work for them and I don't get anything from them to say good things about them. I just like the company.

    I make two seasonings that I always have on hand and use frequently. I make my own seasoning salt as well as a house seasoning (garlic powder, onion powder and black pepper.) I use both of these as well as my own onion soup mix, taco seasoning and chili seasoning. ❤️

    • @faithandarrowhomestead
      @faithandarrowhomestead  Год назад +3

      Oh my gosh, why haven’t I thought to do what you called “house seasoning”? That is a GREAT idea! I do often add salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder when I’m cooking. It makes so much sense to pre-mix them! Thank you :)

    • @cathynations7169
      @cathynations7169 Год назад +2

      @@faithandarrowhomestead I also like seasoning salt, which is a blend of paprika, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, salt and a little cornstarch to keep it flowing smoothly. The "house seasoning" goes into literally everything. 😁 Equal parts of onion and garlic powder and pepper to taste. I use half the amount of pepper to garlic powder and onion powder. I don't add salt to this, because, like you, I want to add salt to my liking when preparing anything. This way I can control it. ❤️

I only ask because I live in Australia and soooo many US channels on YT list it as an ingredient for recipes. 1. It's incredibly expensive here. 2. Another viewer mentioned Frontier Co-op, and I second that. Starwest is another go to and I use both of these companies for herbs, (bulk) seasonings, and even elderberries for making own elderberry echinacea syrup.
    Another use for pumkin pie spice could be coffee creamer. Mix it wth your own heavy whipping cream. A lot of flavored creamers have yucky additives (hey unexplained pain /inflammation.)
    Another blend I would look iinto would be veggie seasoning blends with players like dill, rosemary, turmeric etc. A coffee grinder is great for grinding herbs like rosemary for anyone who isn't a fan of her texture.

    How many servings does your taco seasoning make compared to store bought package?
    Brand new to the idea of making homemade seasons.

    • @faithandarrowhomestead
      @faithandarrowhomestead  Год назад +1

      Hmm, I’d have to do some weighing and some comparisons to give you an accurate number but let’s say you use three spoonfuls for a pound of meat, I’m guessing roughly five maybe six servings? That’s a good question. If I put together another video like this in the future I’ll look into servings a bit more.

    Just curious as to why you should not reuse the lids if they have already been used for canning? I have reused them if the seal looks good and there are no blemishes on the metal but honestly if there’s a reason why I shouldn’t it would be useful to know. Thank you for your time.

    • @faithandarrowhomestead
      @faithandarrowhomestead  Год назад

      Hey Karen! It’s a recommendation made by the higher ups because reusing lids can lead to seal failures. If you’re using your eyes, nose, and common sense when canning and consuming canned foods you should be fine. But due to the safety issue it’s not a recommendation I’m going to make on my channel 🤗

    Question?? How big is your pot of chili? I have 6 children, our pots of chili may be different sizes if you are single. Thank you for posting these, this is my first discovery of your videos. I'm excited to try these.

      Hey Amy! I’m so glad you’re here! My chili recipe serves six but I try to write my recipes in a way that they’re easily scaleable.
      Here’s the recipe:
      faithandarrowhomestead.com/hidden-bean-chili/#recipe
      You could probably get away with the same amount of veggies and beans but add another two cups of broth and another two tablespoons of masa harina, another tablespoon of tomato paste, and mmm maybe another small can of crushed tomatoes. This should work out nicely for you. Adjust the seasonings to your taste. God bless!

    I stopped using taco seasoning packets and just use salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, ground cumin. This way I can control the amounts like salt and garlic. Light on the salt always heavy on the garlic. lol
