    Used to swim a lot as a child but never really learned proper technique or anything. There's def so much more to it than I was expecting, jumping back into it as an adult. Breathing and engaging my core has been a struggle so far. But watching these videos have helped. I think I'm slowly getting the hang of breathing, but my legs continuously sink still. When I'm actively thinking about it, I can remember to pull myself up, but inevitably they begin sinking again when I start focusing more on my breathing or strokes.

    Being new to swimming this is an excellent video, let's me know the feelings I have is normal, being 6'3 and 250 I do feel everyone is watching me and expect me to be a good swimmer, but at 60 I am just taking up the sport to stay in shape, I mix it in with crossfit. When I first started breathing was an issue and I couldn't get half way down the pool with feeling exhausted, these videos and the app helped me learn the proper form and I now I can go a full length without stopping. I am now trying to work on my flip turn, others around me do it so easy, when I try I get water in my nose and end up facing the wrong way, I know it will take more practice. Thanks..

    I returned to swimming last year June. 06.30am every day. Slow very slow. Now I go swimming different times. I am better even a little faster. I surprised my self about three months and did the back stroke. I learned to swim secondary school. During the 70's. Now in my 50s and really want to improve my swim. Thanks to MySwimPro. I will soon move from the slow lane to the medium lane. London UK.

    I used to panic even just with floating. Something that really helped was using swimmer's ear plugs! I also use a nose clip, and prescription goggles. Something about water getting in my eyes, ears, and/or nose would always freak me out, so having some gear for that has really helped. And Rx goggles are amazing - I can finally see the clock, the lifeguard, and my swimming buddy, even from across the pool!
    Any tips for helping curb the frustration from needing to breathe at a faster rate than my swim pace allows? I'm a slow swimmer, but find I keep needing to breathe at more points in my lap than just the points I'm supposed to

    It was my first day at the pool today, first day swimming ever.
    I loved how water made me feel, almost a sense of euphoria. I was able to dunk my head under water and the blankness and the blue surroundings almost felt meditative. I was doing all that while holding on to walls of the pool but when i tried to float on my stomach using a float, muscular tension kicked in and i started hyperventilating. The unstability felt unsettling. How to calm myself in that instance, when i love water infact

      Hi Purnoor! I love that you took the uncomfortable action and that takes so much courage! 😃
      It's great to hear that you feel comfortable having your face in the water. What helped me a lot was to breathe in through my mouth and out through my nose in the water. Practice doing it until it becomes second nature and I am not dealing with sucking water in my nose or accidentally coughing because water went into my mouth. It takes time and patience. Assuming that you have nailed it. From my experience, I would almost want to progress to being able to comfortably move in ALL directions in the water before floating on my back...Using the ledge at the shallow pool and imagine yourself lying on the bed.
      Because tell you what, sometimes floating on the back is EVEN scarier than being on my front (believe it or not!) The reason being that we couldn't see the ground or where we're going and we felt like we're free falling into the water (all that scary imagination we do to our mind....😜🤪)
      The bottom line is, I would try to progress to moving comfortably in different directions in the water BEFORE learning how to float on the back! ☺
      I hope this makes sense and give it a try next time when you're in the pool. Ask me more questions! Would love to share with you more to help you out with it. Let me know what's the best way to connect. 🥰

    I suddenly had develop anxiety when I was swimming a month ago. It's the first time in a long time I have that feeling! Then I caught COVID, and the anxiety escalated. Now I'm having a hard time completing my laps. A lil depressed because swimming is my favourite sport. Hopefully, I can fully overcome this.

    I love this video is so relaxing. Maybe part the background music.
    I went outdoor swimming yesterday. For the first time in a long time. It was doubled freezing on entering.
    For a moment I did not know what to do. To stay or get out fast.
    However I managed to focus and achieved 10 lengths and 2 back strokes.
    On getting out of the pool many of the others swimmers. Mentioned how long I was in the pool. That they were impressed. I was surprised at the comments, since my body started to warm up. Just kept on swimming. But will take it easy next time as the reception suggested. But I felt great after the swim.
    Usually I attend my local indoor pool. But the large outdoor pool is about 10 mins from my home. Will start to include as part of my swim.
    🏊‍♀️ Thanks Myswim for improving my swimming. From London UK.

    This is very helpful! However, I experience a different kind of anxiety now that I'm a pretty good swimmer and I do laps in the fast lane. When it gets crowded, I get very nervous not knowing who is behind me and/or how close they are to me. I don't want to get in their way and even though I know they can pass me, I lose my focus and try to swim very fast (exhausting myself) and have to stop at the wall because I'm scared there's a very annoyed person behind me. If I switch to a slower lane, I find that I am too fast and have to pass others constantly which also doesn't make for an efficient swim session. I know speed-wise I belong in the fast lane, but when there's more than 5 or 6 people in there (short course), I get so anxious, often I have to give up and get out. Any tips on this?

    • @FaresKsebati
      @FaresKsebati  2 года назад +2

      Good question, Eva! Anxiety can stem from a lot of different places. If this is a recurring problem, you may want to talk to a licensed therapist. However, see if you can talk to the people in your lane at some point before or after your swim. When it gets busy, everyone has to make accommodations - you shouldn't be the only one :)

    • @evabakker
      @evabakker 2 года назад +2

      @@FaresKsebati thank you! I've talked about this with my therapist, and they've given me some pointers, but I keep having this issue. I hope it fades. Talking to the people in the lane is quite difficult most of the time, in our pool we only get one opening hour a day and everyone needs to cram their workout into it. Some days it gets very crowded and no one really talks to each other. The one time I asked another swimmer if maybe he would be willing to not grab my foot before he passed me, he laughed at me and told me to get the f**k out if I had an issue 😬😬😬

      I get where you’re coming from. I avoid crowded swimming like the plague. I don’t want to go at others speed and injure my swimmers shoulder further. Furthermore, I swim for stress/anxiety relief. Not to gain more.
      What I came to realize is that cardio training that causes a person stress (especially women) increases cortisol and can actually cause you to gain weight rather than take it off, especially around the midsection. It’s why many people bust their rears on treadmills without much result.
      Personally, i suffer from a chronic pain condition that is exasperated by stress and managed almost completely by swimming (and herbs 😊). So a peaceful, serene swim is crucial to me.
      What really helped me is my bone conduction music player. I put music on it that helps set my pace and encourages me not to rush and also some tunes to power me through my sprints. I am in my own little world under the water with my tunes.
      In addition to this I’ve found places and times to swim that are not busy. I usually have a lane to myself or at most share with one other (In which case we each take one side of the lane and don’t have to worry about being chased or grabbed by the foot lol). In the summer when I swim outside it’s much busier and I notice I don’t enjoy my swims near as much.

    • @KratosMayhem
      @KratosMayhem 2 года назад +3

      Before you get in watch everyone in the lane swim 2 or 3 lengths and swim behind the person that is swimming the fastest in comparison to the speed you plan on swimming. So you should be faster than everyone behind you and slower than everyone in front of you, therefore mitigating the chances of anyone needing to pass you.

    • @evabakker
      @evabakker 2 года назад +2

      @@jaymecolliermoniz thanks for your elaborate reply!! I'm definitely thinking of buying a bone conduction mp3 player to help me calm down. I swim training sessions every Wednesday that are really tough but it's also the only time I get a lane to myself which is absolutely awesome and makes me feel so relaxed. Opening hours for lane swimming are sadly very limited at my pool, so it's always fairly crowded but the weekend days are the worst.

    As a male swimmer my main fear and anxiety comes from the fact the water makes any swimwear hung my manhood which is embarrassing when around other people and even more embarrassing and awkward when there are kids near the pool and the women look at me as if I'm doing something wrong. Any tips on how to deal with that? Lol swimwear recommendations from any of the male swimmers at MySwimPro?
