    Thanks for remembering us. Other topics: breathing, stroke mechanics, good cross training for swimmers to make them better, proper kick, how to avoid burnout, etc. My biggest hurdle as a novice has been breathing properly and relaxing, as having endurance. I'm good for about 4-6 laps and have to stop. Goal is to swim not necessarily fast, but for a longer duration.

    • @RickMartinYouTube
      @RickMartinYouTube 4 года назад

      @@jimmyb3845 thanks - I play a lot of different sports and find I'm over analytical on technique - so I think you're right once I relax and just allow the stroke to happen, it'll get easier. Thanks for the comment.

    • @vestibulitis
      @vestibulitis 3 года назад +5

      Think of having a long body and slow down your stroke so you glide as long as possible - 3 secs or so - before the next stroke. You’ll have your hand and arm and shoulder in a long reach in front of you which will encourage body rotation in the torso, hips, legs, and feet. And, a cheat tip, the less you kick, the longer you’ll be able to go. Kicking is more tiring than getting smooth, long, slow pulls during your stroke.

But now, going to pool the second time in years, i intend to swim back and forth between walls w/o interruption. As of now i complete one full go without problem but approaching the end i feel my lung capacity just won't let me. So i'm trying to get even more comfortable with pool water by diving my head often and attempt to push my breathing boundaries every now and then, hopefully, to get bigger lungs. It is mainly for swimmers that do triathlon training ( I was told by a YMCA employee)
    Totally contrary to what USMS was supposed to be for .
    Thank goodness for your videos ! As an adult who can swim but not “ properly “ I feel it’s common of 1960’s born kids to never have taken lessons but mostly taught by our parent or sibling as a toddler .
    I know NOTHING about pool etiquette etc I just long to look like those gorgeous am swimmers that are gliding thru their lanes as a splash and kick like a 5 yr old ! Rotfl !
    So glad others say they’ve self taught bc I cannot find any help to teach adults how to “ properly “ swim as an exercise !

I never knew how to communicate these steps without sounding like a child.

    I'm going to start Masters once I have a better handle on things. This is very nice of them to have these for adults and I hope I can live out my dream of being a swimmer even though it's later in life.
    Also, for the woman giving this lesson, I just wanted to tell you're very helpful and pretty, if I may compliment you.

      I'm also becoming a swimmer again later in life. Was a swimmer when I lived in Miami as a child. It's so relaxing and good exercise.

    I’m learning to swim now as an adult - I’m about 6’4” 190 lbs and I’m having difficulty floating, my feet keep sinking when I try to kick with assistance of a kick board. Any tips?

      fins would probably help. Never learned to swim as a kid. Two years ago after double hip replacement ended running and walking briskly, decided to learn to swim. Started kicking laps first with burner fins. Two years later I can do a decent backstroke and freestyle and am working on butterfly. I am 87 yr old female. Love it.

    I constantly get calf and arm sprains and injuries when I go lane swimming but can run often with no issues. How do people avoid swimming sprains? Do people usually stretch a lot before swimming? I would like to regularly swim as a hobby but the constant injuries are off putting.

    • @myswimpro
      @myswimpro 3 года назад

      Yes we definitely recommend stretching before swimming, and a proper warm up will help with this, too.

    At the pool where I swim it’s recommended to o shower before getting in the pool. If you use cool water to shower you ll have an easy time to get into the water.

    I practice some of these at my pool (HOA), but the pool’s wall is much higher than the water level. Im also short…. So I struggle to learn the breathing techniques. Any other suggestions for that?

    • @christaagatore4271
      @christaagatore4271 3 года назад

      @@ASMRyouVEGANyet I just learned that, so after a deep breath blow it out from your nose as soon as you put your head in the water. If you are on your back try humming a song, while holding your breath. Was that helpful?

    Pretty good, very difficult to cover everything in one video so not bad.
    But for a beginner, it's never this simple. It depends on the person mind you but simply gliding can be terrifying for some people.

    • @PatriciaMartinez-ty4er
      @PatriciaMartinez-ty4er 2 года назад

      Stay in the shallow end. All you have to do is stand up.

    • @tomatomb8704
      @tomatomb8704 2 года назад

      @@PatriciaMartinez-ty4er Many adults simply standing up hard. You can't just stand up, you have to rotate your body so that the hips drop, then stand up.
      I've seen people try and stand up feom the feont only to slip and then faceplant the water.
      I agree in principle but in reality it's not always that simple.
