The ZTZ 96A in War Thunder is a rank 6 premium for the Chinese tech tree. It has one of the best cannons for a premium vehicle in game being the 125mm that fires 125-I round.

The APS system also works against friendly missiles flying past it. I lost 3 tow2bs trying to shoot past a friendly ztz that pushed infront of the spot I was in on the other side of the rock. I had no idea why my shells were just proofing into nothing. Skill issue I guess

They do that on friendlys anyway you could have a friendly infront and they will proxy on them as if an enemy but don’t do the damage

Good to see an honest review of this tank. I got this tank during a sale (along with the Z-19E, rip 11.0) and at first it was fine since it was pre nerf and before TURMS. But now it is miserable to use. Like you said, the lower plate is by far the biggest weakspot and usually results in a one hit kill. But the gun breech is especially bad and penetrating it rountinely kills 1 crew member. The cherry on top is the mobility is average at best. Unlike light armored tanks where you at least get mobility, here all you get is a good round, and 2 spots of armor (upper front plate and turret cheeks). I think it is important to point out too that it has been over a year since multiple bug reports were acknowledged about this tank missing NERA composites on the lower plate, the turret is missing a lot of armor, and the ammo carousal is missing it's armor like the TURMS and other soviet tanks get. This is true on the other Chinese tanks as well, but y'know Gaijin, they are truly anti-china.. I think it needs bumped down to 9.7 to actually be useful, it is far inferior to a Leo 2A4 or the TURMS.

I think its fine at 10.0, it doesn't have the survivability of Russian vehicles (mainly t80 series unlike t72 series) but it can survive a fuel tank shot here and there but most of time it insta kills. Mobility wise it's similar to the turms and other t72, not like NATO tanks but it's not a NATO tank and turret traverse is better then the turms. The I-125 can pen almost everything frontally expect the t72b (which I think should just go straight through but that's just my opinion)

Honestly, it's a great tank imo. Most people don't even know how to kill it, I've only been one shot killed from the lower front plate once. and the rest have been from the horrible 2S38 spam currently. But it's a nice tank and honestly it fits my playstyle.

Active protection at night is not a negative I think. You can just shut it with one button.(there is a button in settings)

The ZTZ-96A is a good tank for hull-down, since they can't easily hit your lower front plate

I prefer wma301, its not just the tank but the br thats a lot more fun. Less and worse cas/helis, only seeing attack drones in a full uptier.

Yea I prefer the 8.3 lineup for grinding as well with the type 69II G but slowly I think that lineup will go up in BR to 8.7 which tbh makes it a bit stronger since you get the PTL02 and WMA301 back

@@DawgIVLife I dont mind the 8.3 to 8.7 increase since things like turms were moved up to 10.0 so i still avoid that shitshow, unfortunetly you see attack drones in a full uptier now.

Idk why people keep saying the 96a is not well armored. If you hide the lower glacis you are IMMUNE TO DM 33.

Well protected? Yes. Immune? No. Pretty much all t70 series tanks are very good hull down but the issue is that there arent many hull down postions it can play in because of its poor depression.

For me, the turms is better. The lower plate is huge, I have them both already, and I don't like them 😂, I'm used to playing with Abrams, which is much much better than those 2. they are slow with terrible reverse speed and bad turret traverse .

imo the ztz96a(p) is better then the turms just because of the firepower and the turret rotation basically being twice the turms, sure the lrp is large and unarmoured (being pennable with heat) its just performs better then the turms and maybe better protection

Abrams have big exposed lfp but its relatively armoured.Will stop earlier apfsds and (most importantly) blocks 2s38 shots.but against most tanks it face it big lfp and turret ring doesnt rlly help
