  • We’ve not long returned from our 10 day Tassie holiday. Along for the ride were my trusty K-3 and the Pentax 12-24mm f4 lens. I was going to take both the Pentax 12-24 and Pentax 20-40mm lenses but as we were travelling light and choosing to not check in luggage, I was hamstrung by a 7kg total weight limit for all carry on luggage. So I had to leave behind my tripod, filters and the 20-40mm lens and opt to shoot everything handheld.

Amazing shots! Really love the 12mm perspective, you've composed your photos so well making them really interesting to look at, but also extremely artistic.
You make wide-angle shots really shine with your skill.
I'd have to take a look at your channel to see if you got the 300mm f/4.. but I'm quite late to the game, just got it myself. It blew me away! The contrast, colours and sharpness edge-to-edge is seriously on another level.

Thanks so much for your kind words! The 300 mm f4.0 has been on my list of 'must have' lenses for so long. Enjoy your new purchase!

I came back to your video and enjoyed your photography again. I have been contemplating wides and super-wides as my next purchase. I could buy a 14mm, 15mm Ltd., 12/24mm and 11/18mm. The 12/24 is no slouch and you make a great case for it. I use primes almost exclusively and the two wide primes both seem worthwhile. The 14mm passes under the radar and is a bit rare and the 15mm is available in reasonable numbers. Have you had any experience to pass on about the wide primes?

I had the 12-24 and the 11-18 is much better especially in the corners, it even beats the DA15. You have some great shots there - congatulations.

Wow those beach shots were impressive. Torn between this lens and the 14 f2.8

Thank you! I suppose it comes down to the value you put on the wider aperture. For me I appreciate having the range of focal lengths available at my fingertips with the 12-24mm. If you look at the info for each photo in the video you'll see I like shooting this lens around f8 and only dropped it down for indoor shots and I was often at 12mm or 24mm but I did use a range of focal lengths in between. Now that I've put the 12-24mm through it's paces would I choose a wider aperture at the expense of focal length? No, having the 12 -24mm focal range was really valuable on this trip and I was happy enough with the results I got at f4 even when shooting low light indoor shots.

Nice video, I have the Samsung version of this lens, it's brilliant. I think it's optically the same.

Great photos. Can I ask which program do you use for white frame around photos? They look great.

Thanks Tatsuo. Apologies for the late reply, I just saw your question. I created the white frame in the video editing program I use... DaVinci Resolve.

Nice video. I also have a Pentax K3 and decided to order a used Pentax 12-24mm lens after viewing your video. I've noticed that you have a L-bracket on your camera. Where were you able to find one for the K3?

Thanks Rodrigo! That track is titled 'Mirage'. I don't know who the author is, it comes from RUclips's Creator library of royalty free tracks.

super nice video, i want a wide angle for architecture stuff, i can not decide which is my best option, the 12-24 is cheap and seem quite good, the 20-40 is weather sealing and i am not sure if 20mm is wide enough to take churches, i like a lot the 11-18 but seems heavy and more expensive, i am waiting for the new 16-50 but seems delayed...so i do not know, what do you recommend ?
    good video

Thank you! It really comes down to the FOV you prefer to shoot. You've seen my shots taken with the 12-24 mm, here are shots I've taken with the 20-40 mm in New Zealand. ruclips.net/video/2XpE_-0ZiPI/видео.html It rained a lot in New Zealand. Having the weather sealed 20-40 mm attached to my K-3 meant I could walk around all with the camera in my hand and not worry about it getting wet.
