Hey mads, great video again!. Just a question... i would like to know your opinion about the new Sony alpha clip-in filters of KASE. I have the 12-24 F4, and i think it would be a great solution to avoid carrying my behemoth filter holder system.
Great video. Its a dramatic angle of view that makes me love the ultra wide, angle lenses. I started with a samyang 14mm on a A7, but next year i hope to get a 14-24 Sigma for it, i hope it will be enough first. I know its a heavy weight, but for astrophotography it will be perfect too.
I love my Canon 11-24mm. It's been great at Stokksnes photographing the mountains while capturing the reflection off that very shallow pool of water. A shot at 16mm is just not wide enough. In fact, reflection photography is a great use for ultra wide lenses.
I think the examples you used Mads demonstrated the topic extremely well especially where you have been low to the ground. Your eye for composition coupled with your brilliant processing skills are marvellous as the images are stunning

I much prefer wide angle shots compared to telephoto but each have their place in different situations, great video, especially love that shot of the whitewash leading up the black sand to the mountain
im gonna start experimenting with tokina 11-16 on APSC camera.. How do we get sharp focus in such images? focus stacking?or what would be a good way to do so?
I tend to like the look of ultra wide angle but haven't really shot that much with such a focal length. I have a 20mm 1.8 in my bag that I need to work more with. As usual, your videos inspire me to try something new.
I like the "impactful" look. What drew me to photography outside my journalistic work was Ansel Adams' work, which is often very dramatic, although there's rarely anything moving in his photos. I know he typically used a large format camera and the technology was vastly different, but that's still what I think of first when I hear the word "landscape."

great video with many helpful examples of the field of view. I only have a 16-35 but the sony 12-24 is tempting me. The price is currently keeping those temptations in check.
Awesome, I learn so much from your videos! Thank you for doing them, I really appreciate your photos, you are really a photographer's photographer for sure! When will you come back to the U.S. and do another series of photo vlogs, I so very much enjoyed the series you did a few years ago!

Perfect crack i have purchased your e-book it is amazing even for someone who knows a lot of photography it reminds and improves the quality and you have included many very important things , thanks a lot for sharing your experience
Love the video, have a 10-20 Sigma, and yes, You can get very close to the foreground. Struggling a bit with placing a subject since it get very fast small when it's not a foreground subject. But I feel that showing leading lines seems easier with a wide-angle og super-wide angle then a telephoto lens, not sure if that's just me. Tanks for yet another great and educational video.
Great video and pictures but I am missing two important points: 1. Depth of field - do you take the pictures with a narrow aperture like f/16 or do you do focus stacking with a wider aperture? If only one picture - where do you set your focus? 2. Use of filters - the biggest disadvantage of a lens is the lack of a filter thread. How often do you use filters on your wide angle lens, especially a polariser? Isn't setting up the filter holder too time consuming and impractical? Would love to hear your opinion on this!
A great video Mads! I also thought already about buying the SEL1224G which you use, but I didn't because it seems not be possible to use filters on it. Unbelievable for me to be honest for a G-lens, but it is how it is :) As I see, you shot water scenes with it: Did you find a way to use filters with it without using a tape?
Thanks for the great video. I'm wondering which of these two are better... 12-24mm Sony F4 (w/o image stabilization) or 14-24mm Sigma Art F2.8 (with image stabilization). What would you go with? Prices are almost same. $15 more expensive for Sony.
@@MadsPeterIversen thanks for your clear answer. I think I already new the answer for my question but... you know 😂 I'm trying to follow the exact same way you do. Sony A7R3 + 12-24mm + 24-105mm. Thank you my teacher! Will keep watching your videos :D
Hello I used my 12mm for first time yesterday for a 15’s Photoshoot for some of my pictures. When I came home I noticed the subject is blurry and the background super sharp. 😬what do you think happened? How can I fix the blurry subject ?
Hi Mads, stunning photos.Watching your video on the use of the wide angle lens, l have a sigma 10mm to 20 mm lens, which I haven’t used in a long time, I think I’ll give it a dust off and start using it again.Cheers.
You show the perfect use of the SEL1224G but Do Not forget the E 10-18 (used before the 12-24) works in full frame mode from 12mm (mark the lens just where it starts 13mm) to 18mm (18 if you remove the light shield) and 15 to 27 in APS-C. uses screw on filters, AF AND IS and all so small... both are f/4 but not mentioned is the use for Astro Milky Way shooting from the A7S to A7M3 they gather the light and sensors have the dynamic range for shadows. I even use the Voigtlander 10mm f/5.6 for astro. I found processing the image in Lr two or three times sending to Topaz Denoise AI/AI Clear each time lets you brighten and bring out shadows more each time to where a night shot looks like daytime clear and sharp. Do not use Circular Polarizers view is to wide, use a Variable Neutral Density Filter for water and if you have a Mark 2 and below use the on Playmemories store camera filter app (wish it was on the Mark 3). Also the 12mm is great for a night pano to get that rainbow MW less frames at 75% coverage at 180 Degrees in portrait view. As far as stars and MW use PhotoPills to find and it's Spot Stars section for the SS for your camera model and lens mm and use Planit Pro to see how many levels and shots required for a 3:2 (or any). You get smaller galactic center and longer snake across the sky or in portrait view a verticale above the heavens (try an up and over) so much fun. The E 10-18 perfect for museums/churches where tripods not allowed or even incognito street shooting...
While I'd love to add the Canon 11-24mm or the Sigma 12-24 to my gear, budget is an issue for me plus I'd like to have something wide for Astro Photography. With that in mind what do you think of the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8? On the wide end I currently have a Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 G2 & a used Tamron 19-35 f/3.5-4.5 that I picked up for only 40 bucks.
Love the images, Mads! How have you managed with filters using the 12-24mm?? I use a CPL quite often with water and the lack of a filter thread (and consequent cost, weight, and hassle of extra equipment) has put me off.
@@seanmann8732 Hi. I waited and purchased instead the 14mm f1.8 GM as soon as it came out. And I do not regret it. It is much lighter and cheaper than the 12-24mm zoom and produces images at least as stunningly detailed if not even better (See Sony Alpha Blog for comparisons). On the Sony a7r iv I can crop to close to 24mm equivalent and still have acceptable resolutions for most purposes. I have purchased the Nisi front filter adapter for this lens because, like the 12-24mm there is no front filter thread (Nisi make an adapter also for the 12-24mm GM) and CPL. This is a bit cumbersome but not too bad in practice. I've taken it with me on multiple backpacking trips this year without problems. I also use Haida rear ND filters (same ones as are used with the 12-24mm) instead of the expense and weight of oversize 150mm front filters, and they work very well. All in all, this delivers, for me, everything I want from ultra wide with minimal extra hassle or weight.
@@AmorLucisPhotography awesome! I was looking at that lens the other day! Expensive but looks great. Thanks for the detailed reply, I'll look into that lens a little more, and the filters you got. May I ask what lens you pair the 14 with? I have the 24-105
@@seanmann8732 Yep - the 24-105mm G also. This summer hiking and backpacking I felt they worked very well together and covered enough range between them (with occasional cropping) for a relatively light payload. In the past I've been taking the Tamron 17-28mm for the wide end, but this year I did not feel I missed it, to be honest, whereas I have in the past occasionally yearned for wider than 17mm.
@@AmorLucisPhotography ahh see I've been looking heavily into the 17-28. Looks like a good lens. The widest I've shot with my Sony a7iii is the 24 on my 24-105. I know I want wider but not sure how much yet. I was considering the Tamron or this 12-24. But now I'll be looking into the 14mm as well
Great pictures like always. I personally prefer the 16-35mm for landscape photography. You have to take care of the foreground very much, because it tends to dominate the photo very often. And it‘s not comfortable to carry on hiking trips with all its expensive, additional, essential components like huge square 150mm ND filters etc.

Hello Martin. I was wondering if you have looked more into the filters, or purchased the lens, since your comment 1 year ago. Thanks
But now I'll be looking into the 14mm as well
You have convinced me into getting one of these lens for my Nikon D850. TYVM
Are you focus stacking in these shots?
Some of them, yes :)
I forgot to ask you despite of angle of view, is this lend sharper and higher performance than 16-35 2.8 GM?
@ 6:30 maybe my favorite shot of yours Mads! I have a 16-35 so I must try this now, all I need is a good subject ;-) #FlatTexas
Is this with the DX length?
Great pictures like always. I personally prefer the 16-35mm for landscape photography. You have to take care of the foreground very much, because it tends to dominate the photo very often. And it‘s not comfortable to carry on hiking trips with all its expensive, additional, essential components like huge square 150mm ND filters etc.
