I lived in Guam for more than 3 years. Late at night, u can see thousands of coconut grab crossing the road, almost blocking the road. drivers had no choice but just to ran over them. Back then, I never knew coconut crabs are so delicious , or else I would had them always for any meals.......I loved seafood.

FINALLY!!! A place that relishes a crab that loves to eat delicious coconut! As a Trinbagonian🇹🇹 that enjoys ALL things "coconut", including a good "basin" of Crab & Callaloo, I really enjoyed watching this video. Many years ago, I learned about coconut crabs and right away I thought of making our local specialty (Crab & Callaloo) with this formidable creature.
This concoction, made of young taro leaves with okra, pumpkin and these coconut crabs, cooked down in fresh herbs and coconut milk…would sent me to the moon!!

Trinbagonians also enjoy “Blue Food”, which is simple root crops like taro, cassava, sweet potatoes, eddoes, green banana cooked in coconut milk or as an accompaniment to steamed fish or stewed or curried meat (wild or domesticated) WHOOOHOoooo!! 🥰

So thanks for taking us off the beaten track to showcase these exotic delicacies Mark….and even bigger Thanks to the hospitable folks on Vuaqava and Totoya islands. May your lifestyle and livelihood remain sustainable for many generations to come. Bless-UP!! 💙

Fiji have reverence for their functions including mealtimes. I liked the way Mark followed suit at mealtime by sitting cross legged the way the hosts did and at other places functions. This reminds me of back in the days when growing up in the African village settings, we ate meals laid down on mats or any other floor covering. Girls would sit side saddle while the boys sat cross legged.

That water is absolutely mesmerizing! The clarity is astonishing; you can see right down to the bottom even with the high tide and the waves playfully splashing in that beautiful turquoise water. It truly is a sight to behold.
Coconut crabs are such fascinating creatures, and it's wonderful to learn more about them. Totoya Island seems to be a haven for these incredible crabs, and it's incredible to see them hanging in the trees and living in such abundance on the island. The colors and strength of the coconut crab are truly impressive, and that shell looks like something out of a dream!
I can almost taste the anticipation as they cook up the coconut crab in that outdoor kitchen. Boiling the crab and the delicacy of the coconut-filled tail that awaits is just mouth-watering. It's fantastic to witness the whole process, from choosing the crab to watching it get cooked to perfection.
That claw looks massive and muscular, almost like a bodybuilder's arm! The flavors are already making my taste buds dance with delight. The coconut crab seems to have an exquisite natural sweetness and texture, like nothing else experienced before. No need for extra condiments; it's perfect as it is.
I can imagine the joy and satisfaction of partaking in such a unique delicacy, savoring every bite of that fine, stringy texture. This is an experience of a lifetime, surrounded by the beauty of nature and indulging in the island's bounty. Thanks for taking us on this incredible journey and sharing the delights of Totoya Island!

People saying coconut crabs are endangered but in Fiji it’s in abundance. The island Mark went to is very far from the mainland..it’s take days or two depending on the route to reach the places and you have to get the permission of the locals before going. So come visit Fiji. We locals have even yet to try that’s how hard it is to get, it’s a delicacy.

in a pinch you can cook crab or lobster or shrimp or whatever low tide gives you in a orang buoy. cut an opening in the buoy, fill it with seawater, add heated rocks until it boils. add your supper and by the time the boil stops supper is ready.
