    My dad just went on holidays, about 8000km across Australia on "black diesel". Recipe is 50/50 Jet A1 and sump oil. It has a very unique smell, so far the Volvo TD70 is running well on it. Hes had people try to buy fuel off him in remote locations.......and he says "I dont think your new Landcruiser would like my blend of diesel". He gets a lot of stunned looks when he explains to 4WD owners with caravans what his fuel costs. While they are paying AUD $2.50 per liter ......his fuel is AUD $1.00 per liter. Best part is, despite grossing 15,000kg pulling a trailer.......he gets almost the same fuel economy as a Landcruiser pulling a caravan.

    Man that border crossing is soooo much different than ours. For one ours are a bridge, 2nd theres 15 -20+ toll stalls to go through. This must be a middle of nowhere crossing. For reference I'm in Buffalo NY so I've been over the very busy Peace bridge and Rainbow bridge, so those are all i have to compare it to(plus its a shortcut thru Canada -401 to Detroit &\or Montreal). I haven't crossed in years since i was a kid when we went on vacation to Long Point Beach and the teenage 19y\o 'canadian ballet' trips, & a few more trips to the Casino, N.Falls, Clifton Hill, Toronto, in my 20's. Now i got some things that wouldn't let me cross anymore but i had several fun trips earlier in my life though. Its just crazy to see the lack of security at that border crossing you went over. I'm sure it is secure but its just not the security I'm used to here. Country living at its best. That guard was pretty cool though. "Oh thats why it sounds so loud?" No thats just the Detroit Diesel 453T jimmy i swapped into it under the hood thats screamin away!(Not so much the 'bio-diesel' french fry oil)😂😄😂🤔🤦🏻‍♂️👌🏻🛢️💥💨

    Do you feel the 4-53 NA would be a good candidate to run biodiesel ? Have a 1979 40’ Ocean yacht trawler with twin 4-53 NA, running biodiesel help the cruising budget, they are claimed to have a 3-5gph combined burn rate running at the vessel at 8-12 knots.

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes the 4-53N will burn Biodiesel really well.:) Make sure you change any rubber fuel lines to a biodiesel compatible hose first. The bio diesel will slowly rot the rubber if not changed.

    Have you ever considered using terpenes to deduce oil viscosity and change combustion output?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  25 дней назад

      @@Mhm5213 No I run straight veg oil, start and stop on diesel and the rest of the time on 100% veg. The veg system is insulated and I've run the system down to -40f with no issues. For that trip I did add 10% gas to make sure I did not have any gelling. I reduced the engine oil changes to 6000 miles down from 12,000 just to make sure there's no issues with polymerization. Border guards be like "its that noisy pick up with the detroit again ,driven by some young hooligan". With the drag co-efficient of pick ups, its impressive that its not drinking fuel hard above 65 mph. If I keep my diesel Amarok at 63 mph, it gets about 32 mpg ( US gallons).

      The American guard really liked the setup, talked for 20 minutes on the topic of veg oil and biodiesel.:) Best fuel economy for me is around 65 mph at 18-20 mpg on diesel.
