You should solder an M4XSIO/MC2SIO memory card internally to the main board instead of using the usb to load games. You could just have the SD card slot sticking out the side like a PSP. This method is faster with better game compatibility as long as you use the right version of OPL.
Recent homebrew developments include the MX4SIO project, which allows for game loading from an SD to memory card adapter. Loading times are significantly faster than the USB drive and help reduce FMV stutter.
If it works that well like that, I imagine using some of the components he used to make a ps2 super slim would be a simple task. A internal memory much smaller PS2
I was moments from clicking the subscribe button but then you said Kingdom Hearts sucks - so I reported you for misinformation instead. /s You packed so much into each scene of this video, I'm in awe!
So if you're crazy bored I got an idea for you, can't tell if it's possible though. A portable PS2 (or GameCube) with a homestation you can put it in. In theory like a Nintendo Switch, which you can either use as a homecosole or as a handheld. With the difference, that the station for the PS2/Gamecube not only enables you to play on a TV but also to use the disc drive.
Could you try creating a Portable "Docked Switch". If you would put the electronics from the Docking Station into a switch and use a custom screen you could get 1080p in handheld mode instead of 720p in normal handheld mode
