This gem gets so little airtime on classical music platforms. Beethoven's chamber music is of the highest quality and deserves more exposure to our ears.
I remember paying horn in this piece at school during a turbulent time in College in the late 60's. What a mental, emotional, and spiritual oasis this music gave me then, and ever since. Beethoven and this piece will still be played and appreciated with fervor decades and centuries after the pop artists of our day are long forgotten.

Janine Jansen is marvelous, and so are her friends. The bassist in particular, is subtle, strong, astute and extremely sensitive! All have so much fun as they perform. It's a nice thing to behold.
Love the wonderful performance. As a cellist I must "congratulate" the editor of this video for filming the accompanying instruments and for never closing in on the cellist when he had the many wonderful solos in this work. Rolling eyes... sigh...
I don't quite understand what's going on here. This composition and this performance just keep getting better every time I listen to it. Many thanks for posting, Avrotros!
I have looked for this wonderful Septet for years, but could not find a recording anywhere. Janine Jansen and "the friends" have provided it. Really wonderful. Many thanks
+Terence CLARK Hi Terence. If you're into vinyl, and I sincerely hope you are, there are a number of fine recordings of this piece available on used LP's at ebay. I happen to really like the version by The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble on the Philips label. There are also quite a few performances on CD and SACD at Amazon. I would avoid digital media, though. Digital has never gotten string sound right. I think it's a problem with their upper harmonic structure not being rendered correctly. Jeff
Another wonderful work from "that guy". Jansen is, as usual, terrific. I, too , had trouble hearing her, but my earphones helped. The violist ain't bad, either. My best friend is a clarinetist and I sent this to him. Thanks for posting.

Great interpretation of the Septimino! . The great deaf man composed a more intimate version (op. 38): a concerto for piano, cello and clarinet that I recommend in the version that can be heard on this site by Andreas Ottensamer, Sol Gabetta and Dejan Lazić (live). It is incredible that the same music causes such dissimilar and sublime aesthetic pleasures!
Beethoven is susceptible to being performed pedestrianously. Needs his beat with varying sensitive tempo and above all played by players who are enjoying themselves. This is a good performance. Well done. The second movement is superb.
I als 70 encara no havia nascut...
Amazing performance, anchored by Jansen's incomparable ensemble playing - leading and blending perfectly - and Martin Fröst's clarinet playing. He's the best clarinetist on the planet, possibly the best that ever lived. This piece does not show off the full range of his technique, which one of Chicago Symphony clarinetists called "freakish." I'm relieved he missed an entrance - it means he's actually human after all.
@@Leofiora Of course ! One of my personal favorites. I know the castle where he probably wrote his two first symphonies and some of his symphonic poems in 1842. It is the castle Stjärnholm outside Nyköping on the Swedish East Coast, where Berwald and his young wife spent the summer in 1842. Berwald was invited by the local landlord. Today the castle is owned asnd used by the Swedish Church and open to public. stjarnholm.se/

A beautiful Mozart-like composition, yet still with plenty of Beethoven's depth and range of emotion. Wonderful playing!
The interaction among the seven players is literally perfect. Simply wonderful.
You're literally perfect and simply wonderful :)
@@britdude74 Thanks for your kind reply.
Beethovens most populair work during his livetime. The better and mature he became , the more he disliked this work. But I love it!
Phenomenal piece with a magical slow movement that only Beethoven can write.

What a very beautiful work The combination of instrumentalists was very pleasing, Beethoven is never boring.
one of the greatest chamber music performances I've ever heard. Jansen is a superb musician and violinist

Just wondering if clarinetist Martin Fröst's leather trousers are responsible for the giant missed note.
the clarinettist and bassoonist look like brothers or cousins and the french horn player might be their father or uncle
Einfach wunderbar!

I'm with you there, Dan. But the Bass player got even less.
A light hearted gem to enjoy on a gray November afternoon.

When Janine is making the look, you know it´s being memorable
A beautiful piece by Beethoven, performed wonderfully! My thanks to these fine musicians for bringing this music to life.
The sweetness of this music pervades into my marrows, into my elements, and fills me with indescribable joy
Bravo!
22:55 So professional Frost. Although he misses some notes, he continues playing as nothing happened. Bravo

I am about to join a Septet in Hungary to play this wonderful piece. Another first for me.
Fabulous performance, so sensitively delivered.
Such wonderful, expressive ensemble playing. Beautiful!
this is one of the most sublime, amazing playing I've heard for some time.
She's My Favorite at Violin!!! I LOVE Janine!!! BEAUTIFUL LADY and a Big TALENT!!!
Feeling Beethoven at his best with such great players !!!
Sensational. All great players playing as one; Frost is a ‘Goosebump City’ sensation.
Exquisite partitur and performance. Makes me happy in mind and heart. I can't stop following the rhythm wit my feet like when I listen Mozart.
Martin Fröst, a swede like me, is in this a big part why this becomes so wonderful.
Miss Jensen is a great violinist, with beauty and great staccato.
A cool music that reflects Beethoven's real leisurre happiness.
I'm impressed as a bassoonist and orchestra conductor. Really nice. I have had this song playing. We a big hand.
Fredrik Ekdahl's playing is just incredible. I am always excited to find new performances of his!
Beautiful playing, they are really listening to each other....

give more light for the double bass!!!
he's totally in dark sight.
Quel bonheur !!!
prachtig!
I wonder why Beethoven hated this composition. It's such a brilliant, warm, and pleasant music to heard of.
This is definitely a superior kind of TV show.
BTW, I didn't know Harry plays clarinet.
That's chamber music ! 10:55 !
Super!!!
a wish: would you play Hummel's septet, a wonderful piece of music?

He *is* good. I also was surprised he missed the entrance at 22:58.
martin frost is a very best clarinet espressivity
I am amazed
😍😍😍😍😍😍👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
When the Swedish composer Franz Berwald wrote hos septet almost 30 years later he clearly used Beethovens work as a model how to write his own septet.
Berwald is a great composer.

Who the hell gave this a dislike? Seriously
Maybe they loved it so much that they flipped their device and liked it again!!
Maravilhoso

brilliant
Martin Frost - true musican
35:17 The clarinet guy did it!
What did Andreas Ottensamer do? I think he played superb.
@@eduardoabelwilliams6530
He did circular breathing. He played so well we couldn't figure out it without seeing him
And he is not Ottensamer but Martin Flöst
