This brings back memories of me making homemade kites with thin coconut leave sticks and plastic bags and a little thread. Good days, but tjis is taking it to another level. Nicely done 👍
I just wanted to thank everyone of the Flite Test team for all the amazing work, effort and love that you guys put into making these videos, and thereby inspiring people to do the same (including me). Thank you for getting me into this awesome hobby and helping me along on this beautiful journey! Love from South Africa❤️🇿🇦
I need an episode on that TRENT PALMER KITFOX!!!! It was just released for preorder (already have it checked out) and I need some content on it! Get Trent to land the real CubKiller on one of your runways for the episode!
Super interesting. And as a kite maker/flier, I was wondering if it would improve further by having the motors 2" below the wings. That would create greater airflow underneath. As these aren't true wings with an airfoil shape to induce lift in the normal way, it just might work better. Not definitely, but it'd be interesting. 😉
I lost a kite one time… Dropped the handle on accident. The handle hooked a telephone pole and the flew for three days after that! It was pretty amazing! Just like your content! Keep up the great work guys!
Nice job! From my young kite flying days I have envisaged a small powered tug which operates to oppose the tension in the string - it essentially replaces the string. A couple of servos would provide adjustment to the bridle to control angle of attack. Then fly that in an actual wind using the lift generated by the kite and the pull of the tug to control up/down wind..
This should become one of Flite Test regular products for sale. They can have it in different colors, patterns, interesting designs, etc. and they would sell many of these!!
Ok so, I have a really cool video idea. What you gotta do is make 2 smaller fighter planes (corsair mini) (p51 mini) for example, then make them fpv and have a demolition derby. Another idea is where you make a large plane, then have a bunch of smaller planes try and bring it down. I feel like these would be totally sick!
You could tie a string to it and use the motors to get it high enough to catch the wind on one of those days when the wind not strong enough to launch it. Then turn the motors off and fly like a kite.
[8:16] "What do you think? We were going with the wind there." The only wind an airplane (or a free flying kite in this case) feels is the relative wind generated by its forward motion through the air. (See the Aerodynamics thread on the Forum.) During this brief test flight the tail consistently flowed directly aft, thus showing that it had a good relative wind on the nose the entire time. Why not put it to the test in a carefully controlled experiment with a well-instrumented airplane recording airspeed, groundspeed, and groundtrack as it flies upwind, downwind, and crosswind. PS: The kite looked beautiful flying with its graceful tail streaming out behind.
Great idea and brilliant solution! Plus you've basically invented a fairly easy to build (Kite itself is basically RTF) "plane" concept , that folds down to next to nothing. Great for those who don't have easy access to a roomy car, etc. Add a bag of releasable strips to the kit and make the foam triangles fold flat, and you're ready to travel. I have to wonder how a kite version of the FT Flyer would work out; It always gave me a bil of a "kite vibe" due to the shape. Could also be a fun revisit to one of the designs that got everything started for you guys!
This is one of the coolest things ever flying! Want one bad! Elegant, fluid & beautiful, brilliant! How is it possible that every video you post is more amazing than the last one!? Unreal!! You're gonna have to start to build that motor swivel again!! TYTY!
IN Brazil and other countries they have kite wars to try to cut down the other guy's kite with ground glass glued to the strings. You would be unbeatable with that!! No strings attached.
At one time there was a kite called the Space Platform it was a 12"x 12" kite that flew very well and very high . I used to fly one on a fishing rod with 300 yds. of line . Try one of those .
I have a major challenge for you. Build from lowes construction foam, a 1 to 1 scale cessna 152. Insure to put everything in the cockpit including seats(from foam) that can hold actual human weight. Be sure to reinforce each piece with fiber glass. Once you get it built, although a little risky, place someone in the aircraft and fly them around just a few feet of the ground. It also should have plexiglass windows and paint. this is my humble challenge, however long it takes
It's actually a Bicopter with tail. The Kite does not fly. It's pulled/held up. CG is to high and almost at the front. That's why it can't glide and why you can't recover from a glide. This is also the reason why you needed the more powerfull motors. I think it would be more effective to take a drone/plane ... towing it. The towing hitch of the towing craft should be near it's CG on the upper side. Anyways if I would build this I'd use a lug on the spar to fix your spar exactly there. Well this would be 2 axes then (elevator with thrust and yaw with thrust differential). If you want to be able to control speed and climb (more or less *) independent you need to be able to lift and sink the motors. I have an Idea in mind how to set this up also with the chance to go for full 3 axes (choice between yaw and roll) with the two servos and two motors but it takes some time to explain it and I'm definetly tired and hungry now and someone will wake me in some hours. So maybe later. * If you add thrust you need to compensate the attack angle by lifting the motors to keep the same pitch. You can configure Mixers to make ist feel independend.
No, you don't have to have control surfaces, but you do have to have those pivoting motor mounts (which you apparently don't offer any longer). Cool segment. As always, thanks much for sharing. Steve
That is so cool. Love it. Looks like fun. You can fly it as a aircraft a copter and as a kite. If you were to make them and sell them people will grab them as fast as you can make them. I love your build projects of so many different basic bodys. Thank you for the great video.
Equivalent to an r/c power-boat, fantastic !! So, can we now see the kite equivalent of an r/c sail-boat, yacht. Wind propulsion and steerage, no propellers. Next week please.
Invisible string! I did the opposite at a kite festival here in the UK. I was flying a small clear plastic fighter, made by a friend of mine. I could only just see it, as you only had the spars to look at. A young lad came over and asked what I was flying. I told him I was flying 'magic string' that flew itself. I saw him go over, and tell his mum I was flying string that flew itself!!
@@peterzingler6221 It is possible. But you'd need carbon spars or something to keep it rigid. The Dream Flight Libelle is a smallish DLG made from foam.
Did you consider blending a little added power with the pitch up command? Without control surfaces, it needs more than just thrust vectoring for pitch control...
When I was a kid, we went to the National Seashore on Cape Cod. Kite flying was a thing in those days and the daytime winds usually blew offshore. We'd send up our kites until the string ran out then attach a bucket or coffee can full of sand and let them go. They would climb out of sight and I wondered if they'd wind up in Ireland.
A plane based on the kite frame is a great idea. Maybe a beginner one and a pro one? Maybe able to roll up into a tube for easy transport... like in a backpack.
Awesome Kite conversion. And please do that. Go to a park on a windless day, and fake controlling the kite (like with real bad acting) with two empty kite spools while someone controls it out of the shadows. I'd love to see the dumbfounded faces 😁
I have an idea for a potential game that's flite test could play. There will be two teams. Each side would have one mini cargo plane and 2 fighter jets. You would use green army men inside of a plastic bag with a trash bag parachute as "paratroopers". You would try to attack either side's cargo plane, and try to let not let them drop their paratroopers in a certain zone. They would use ribbons on the ends of their plane to recognize hits. If one of the planes ribbons got cut off by another plane, they were out. The objective was to drop their teams paratroopers first, and survive.
You guys are awesome. This Old Man from North Carolina always waiting for your next dream video. 3am and I just finished watching with my coffee. Y'all continue to be great ambassadors for our Hobby. Love all your videos. Thanks. ✈😎💗
The twin-motors-forward design/control system of this RC flying device is the same basic design principle that has already been implemented in countless different "Air Hog" RC flying toys...such as the venerable Aero Ace, the mini-Storm-Chaser, the F-16, the mini-Hero flying man, the Intruder, and on and on (and on...).
I wonder if you could utilize the two triangles on the kite to slide in a motor mount in front and maybe a control surface in the back instead of using zip ties?
Ducted fan in the front triangle would be cool too. But you'd have to use some kind of control surface then which would defeat the purpose of this build
Prism kites are always nice. I have a zenith, a quantum which I am learning, a bora, and a pocket flier. I am never going back to any other type of kite.

Please sell this complete on the flight test store it would mean the worlds to me
This needs to be a kit.
Best time of the day when y’all release vids
i was thinking it when they said it in the vid. "it looks like a manta ray". that would be cool. full size flying manta ray.......
Yes
They exist. Big, small. Inflatable and single skin. Some of the worlds biggest kites are 'Mantas'. :)
I heard it as I read the comment
Who thinks flight test should use the tough tilt mounts to make a working foam board model of a V-22 osprey? like this comment so they see it!
That would be AWESOME!
bandit buster I know right! My cousin flies them for the US Air Force, it is one of the reasons I think they are so cool!
Kiowa Warrior I would love to see that!
i don't think the tough tilt has enough tilt, but they could use a carbon-tube-hinge like that of their new circle plane probably
Or a F-111 variable geometry plane!
This brings back memories of me making homemade kites with thin coconut leave sticks and plastic bags and a little thread. Good days, but tjis is taking it to another level. Nicely done 👍
You Should sell those in your store Love watching :)
I see an RC FreedomFox in the back!! IM EXCITED!!!
I want to see an RC STOL Drag!! Mini High Sierra. DO IT! ...please
I noticed it too. I'm sure something fun is coming.
The freedom fox is on the website now!
Danger Zone it is??!?!?
Danger Zone **instant purchase**

This kite is a thing of beauty. Thank you for going for the zero-impact modification!
I just want to keep watching it over and over again.

I need an episode on that TRENT PALMER KITFOX!!!! It was just released for preorder (already have it checked out) and I need some content on it! Get Trent to land the real CubKiller on one of your runways for the episode!
Freedom Fox doesn’t need a runway

"look at those special invisible strings"😂😂❤
I can't see them, but I think I hear them...
Radio waves = invisible strings.

Some channels have a timer for the ad like corridor crew and the hacksmith
This channel is starting to feel more and more like watching an infomercial.
So you know, this means we want to buy Tough Tilt
The kite is a great concept. Motorize a modern modern style hang glider model next.
Over a year ago now but I requested for FliteTest to do this. I never got a reply, I’m happy to finally see it.
Like everyone else, I’ve seen some really off-the-hook stuff on the Flitetest channel, but for me, this caper has been the best one ever.
"Special invisible strings" 😂
3:00 Trent Palmer bushplane in the back? Hell yeah!
What are the giant glowing cubes behind Alex, and when do we get to see those fly? (I'm picturing a nighttime fly)
Those were made for the whoop race to fly around.... infinity mirror LEDs... and the long LED tube was to fly through honeycomb Style
2050: putting wings on the moon and making it fly
Then we can fly astreroids away
We can also make it rc
I love how you mix high and low tech and engineering difficulty to do things better than they've been done before.
I'd love to see more of "will it fly" episodes being made - these are awesome and abit of a throwback to earlier golden Flite Test
Please put this in the store. It would be so funny to show friends. Awesome vid

Guys for some odd reason this is my fav episode, and I have watched very many!
I have a F-35 Lightning 2 kite. I never thought about making it RC, but this video has inspired me to look into it!
This would make a great product for flight test to sell on their site... With the instructions on how to set
It up for RC flying...
This should become one of Flite Test regular products for sale. They can have it in different colors, patterns, interesting designs, etc. and they would sell many of these!!
It would be so cool if you guys could throw the tough tilts in a FT Guinea! This idea kinda changes the whole idea of vectored thrust in RC

extra safety points for having an actual flammables cabinet. And I saw that Freedom Fox!

The bottom part reminds me of the box kite. You have a wonderful kite and memories.
Very cool! Great work guys!!!
I'd almost forgotten how gracefully tri-copters fly. Makes me want to build another one.
Best FliteTest project ever !

SELL THOSE!! As a kit that people could assemble themselves would be awesome

Let’s go kite flying. 😁 But there’s no wind outside. 🤔 Josh: Hold my beer. 😂😂😂
Hold my root beer
This is actually super cool, keep up the good and creative work guys
You could add a third prop on top that provides most of the thrust, and have more subtle control with your two control props.
Awesome job on the flight and build you guys should bring back the tough tilts at your store to help give others a chance to try out this build.

Pushing the envelope on what can fly
Love this

I love your build projects of so many different basic bodys.
Thank you for the great video.
I know the perfect person for this. Charlie Brown. lol Nice work guys, love it.
😁
Make Charlie Brown fly?
If this no strings attached flight kite becomes practical , it will be the best invention in a long while!
Go Josh & Alex! You showed me the kite when I was at Edgewater Airpark on 7/1. Cool to see the video about it!
Equivalent to an r/c power-boat, fantastic !! So, can we now see the kite equivalent of an r/c sail-boat, yacht. Wind propulsion and steerage, no propellers. Next week please.
I want to thank you for the plans for the new master series, I finally found them, color me silly! You guys are so awesome!!!
I'm shocked that Josh flew something with differential thrust without trying a flat spin!

Spectactular!!! Thanks Brings A Whole New Meaning To "Go Fly A Kite"!? And Why Would You EVER Want To Go Back To Strings Flyin??? LOL
Please make a “FT DLG”!
😇

Won't happen it's basicly impossible to do that with foamboard in a way that it will. Last

Also all that looking up must hurt a ton

This would look so AWSOME as a flying manta ray!
A plane based on the kite frame is a great idea. Maybe a beginner one and a pro one? Maybe able to roll up into a tube for easy transport... like in a backpack.
This was so good. Do it again please with a common efficient airfoil? And do for and or landing gear. Slowflight. TY
Awesome! An rc kite that is still 100% kite. Great job!
What a beautiful day to fly a kite at Edgewater
Dudes! Y'all need to make this and sell on your site. We will buy👍👍
I wish I had Josh passion for RC In anything in life, his smile is contagious.

Bushwhacker ?
@@rconger24 yeah the FT bushwacker kit?
This is pretty awesome guys!
Good pick, with the Prism Kite. (Good quality. Flying them for over 20 years).

I recommended this a while back. Glad to see you guys did one.

"Overly complexificate" seems like an overly complexificated term.
That word is perfectly cromulent.
