Mate. Your quick, no-nonsense explanation of wet blending is incredible. Just turned what sounds like a daunting and tricky technique into something that 99% of painters do every time they use paints.
I'll never understand the stigma with air-brushes in this hobby. I never used one before getting back into 40k this year, and now that I've used one (It was easy to learn) I'll never go back. Even if all you do is Prime your miniatures with an airbrush, its totally worth the investment.
The results are obviously amazing, but I think people don't like tutorials with them because the cost is pretty high, plus not everyone has the space required for the equipment and spray booth/fume hood. Also the setup and cleaning of an airbrush can be a big barrier that makes it easier to procrastinate painting. I know I'd be much less likely to paint if I had to set all the stuff up and take it down/put it all away every time I wanted to paint.
Airbrushes (+ paints, thinners and the space and ventilation) is a fairly hefty investment in an already very expensive hobby. It's not going to be a real option for everyone. I would love to use airbrushes, and I do have the income for it, but I just don't have a good space to do it and videos that heavily rely on airbrushing are just useless to me
yeah, agreed. there are some valid reasons that people cant get one but most of the time it seems like alot of people just want to hate on something. all the same issues people have with airbrushes exist in 3d printing but i dont see as much backlash there
My issue with them is that the people who DO use airbrushes always seem to talk down to everyone who doesn't. Which made me think badly about people who do, and even tho I own an expensive airbrush, I've never actually used it, because my initial experience, with people who do, was terrible.
I love this channel! His explanation on the various painting techniques is super useful to me as a new painter. Also, it's so nice to see someone using the Fanatic paints!
Dude you make this shit look so easy but everytime I try it looks like I've attempted to paint a model after 3 vb longnecks at quarter to 8 in the morning
8:04 I just started painting my first couple models ever and this was really encouraging to hear as I only had 3 colors for the armor which were vallejo dark sea blue, vallejo blue green, and vallejo ice yellow and i really struggled with getting the turquoise to not look super dusty so this was really nice to hear that while it is me its not just me. My second model is looking much much better though with the same colors
Have been umming and ooohh-arrring about what warband/legion to choose for ages. Nearly chose Red Corsairs hence the ooohh-arrring but this video has cemented it for Fulgrim and blessed lil blighters. Absolutely digging your style for both painting and videos, they’re both truly unique and inspiring. To the paint desk 🏃
Hey man love your vids, i want to try and emulate your synthwave style with the new kill team vespids. If you ever get a chance to paint one Vespid that looks like Loboscelidia Wasp i would love to see that! Keep up what you're doing, love it!
G'day m8. ive been finding local Downunder Creators in the Printing and Painting space to learn from. As im finding Aussies/Kiwi's are easier to understand for an ol fella like myself. So ive just subbed and liked ya vid, i learnt so much from this one vid, i also follow "Once In A Six Side" as well. From someone Who has never done anything Artzi in my life, but started painting a week ago With some Black Op's Orks and small beasts. So Big Cheers From A M8 Downunder🙃
I definitely hear ya on the trim..... Why else would my main army be Eldar 😅 the Emperor's children would have been my main army a long time ago if I would have just sucked it up and painted some damn panel lines and trim 😅 side note 🎶 hell ya nothing says Emperor's children like some leopard print 🤘💜
@@heresyforheretics hell ya man! The work that you did with your nightlords was pretty epic so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you do with EC! If FW Phoenix Terminators didn't cost so much I'd just use them. But a resin printer might be in my future 😅
Painting? I'm flat out just building them. I must be doing something wrong when trying to be a perfectionist about mould lines; it doesn't really need to be perfect, but I do have to at least try, otherwise it'll just bug me later if I find I missed a spot.
Can you do something on your Night lord army, I'm doing sort of the same with my chaos, but I'm going from chaos minis into generic marines if that makes sense.
Hey I love ur paint style Synthwave is a great paint Schema. I'm new in warhammer and will try the exactly the Shema. But Im not sure what color should be the best. What paints do u use? ❤
I gotta say, videos like this are why I got into warhammer to begin with. Also, definitely stealing painting armor panels the main color on one side, and switching to the trim on the other for my chaos army
never painted a mini in my life but in matters of creativity and self expression i usually only give one piece of advice: put in as much effort and time as you want and or need to, this is YOUR hobby, if you want to the most basic paintjob for your mini's to look ok when youre playing, do that, if you want to spend days of actuall painting and detailing on every single mini to let all other wargamers fall to their knees in awe and jealoussy, do that, this is YOUR project and the only person who has to like it is YOU
Hey, just looking for some advice, maybe even a tutorial! But I’m thinking of applying this kinda scheme for imperial knights, and I don’t have an airbrush. Any tips?
the problem painting my emperors children is i feel i need them to do slaneesh justice to be done right. which yeah, has made this take forevvvvvvvver. color shifts purple, "goldest gold" for their trim, custom weapons, custom backpacks, custom heads with fluro mohawks, name plated bases, everything is magnetized. yes its excessive, but that is the point. the tanks/transports are all getting blue tooth speaker, and lights, and if i can fit it in im going to see if i can find some of those little oil smokers for gun barrles/smoke stacks
Not sure. What I can say is that you don't need expensive brushes to get good results. I use mostly Princeton synthetics and Rosemary and Co. brushes. For my Airbrush I use a Harder and Steenbeck Ultra (don't be intimidated, airbrushing is easy) The H&S airbrush was $100.00 + the cost of a good single piston, quiet air compressor.
Scotty is absolutley right. you dont need to spend big for quiality. i use Golden Maple brushes. theyre affordable sable brushes that i find keep tips for longer than most other brands ive tried
"Battle Ready" as a concept is SUPPOSED to be what it sounds like. Can I look at your minis from across a table and tell what their faction, equipment, and ranks are at a glance so we can play a game? If so, they're "Battle Ready", anything beyond that is your prerogative.
I will always scream from the roof that airbrushing is not hard, is in fact super easy, and you are not allowed to say it's too expensive when you have a pile of shame worty hundreds of dollars shoved in the closet. The haters just need to stop lying and admit they're scared to learn a new skill. You dont even need new paints , just learn to thin properly.
What a weird, confusing video. I thought i was in for a piece of mind on not going 100% on painting models, but left with a sense of 'just paint stuff, and make the stuff you do paint, baller'. Weird, indeed...

4:39 you can also use opaque black ink as well. This is what Vince V does especially when he does free hand to add more fluidity
