And yes, exactly, AJ. Tried launching a petition for Euro Cup II to have qualification for the Champions League but the FM gods were having none of it.
A few years ago, a Portuguese newspaper published the story of how Tó Madeira came into existence and, to everybody's surprise, he is, in fact, a real person. It all started when a guy called António Lopes decided to volunteer to help on SI's database efforts, by offering to fill out GD Gouveia's roster for the 2000/01 season. As a small easter egg, he decided to add his childhood nickname to the roster: Tó Madeira. He never played at senior level but had been part of Gouveia's youth system a few years back. All his attributes were "normal" for lower league standards, so he went under the radar. For the next season, he volunteered again, but this time, the deadline for filling out the roster clashed with the exams for his college degree. So, unable to do proper research and kind of in desperation, he decided to add himself again (Tó Madeira), his cousins and a bunch of friends to Gouveia's main roster. But this time, António didn't give him "normal" values. He intentionally exaggerated in many of the attributes, ending up creating the legend that Tó Madeira was, but also a couple of other amazing "fictitious" players like the Peralta brothers, who in reality were his cousins. He thought that SI would have some kind of algorythm to verify the validity of the database and then clean it up. But there wasn't. So the rest is history. Fun fact: In a 2010 interview, Gouveia's then chairman told the reporter that, up to that point, he still regularly received calls from football agents and other football clubs asking for Tó Madeira's price and availability.

In Champ Manager 01/02 you can find Cristiano Ronaldo in Sporting Lisbon's B Team and he never turns into anything spectacular. In my current game it's 2005 and he's in Fulham's reserves.........Also Rooney tends to stay at Everton for a decade, even when they get relegated (this always happens unless you are managing them) and never comes close to breaking the England scoring record, or indeed winning any trophies at all.
@@Veaseify That reminded of the time when I was on my second season managing Volendam in the Netherlands and needed a backup striker for my roster but had absolutely no money. Just as a goof, I signed a 19year old guy that had just been let go from PSV's youth system and had no other clubs interested in signing him: Klaas Jan Huntelaar. In real life, Huntelaar signed for Heerenveen right after leaving PSV, scoring 17 goals in his first season and we all know how lethal he was as a striker.

Tó Madeira is actually a computer engineer here in Portugal. He never “took photos” to maintain the legend status 😅 There is a interview of a Portuguese jornal, a few years back with him, that explain all the history.
No one can erase the love I still feel after so many years about the best player that ever played the beautiful game. I think it was on the 2001/2002 edition, but could be also on an earlier version. He came to you for about 100K from legendary exotic Indonesian club called Pelita and graced your right wing as he could play from DR up to Forward. What a legend! Kurni, if you are reading this, there was a school in Greece that played football between classes with T-SHIRTS with your name on (ok as well as Pawel Brozek's). LEGEND!
Oh, when you mention Bakayoko and the 97/98 version, you cannot forget about Leandro (Leandro Machado) from Sporting CP. Absolute killer striker from day 1. One of the best in the game.
I enjoyed this video, brought back memories - I had Tonton Zola at QPR, winning the Champions League 4 times. I remember Bakiroglu? being a must sign. Subbed.
I have to fully admit, these are some great players on your list. My first time I played Football manager was in 2005, fm 2005 (I was 14). I only got it because my friends had it 🙄 back then I refused to be any other team than Ayr united through immature loyalty, so it was hard to compete with my friends, who were the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Man u. One player I did find though for really cheap and had, for Ayr United anyway, was Erich Jongeling. An 17 year old midfielder who was coming through the ranks at Veendam in Holland, who after my first season in the Scottish division 1 (now the Scottish championship) was getting bids from Liverpool and Tottenham. In real Life, unfortunately Erich Jongeling never made it at all and ended up at the lower league Dutch team Harkemase Boys, where he played the majority of his career.
On Championship Manager 4 my first signing was always Tijani Babangida. He was available on a free transfer and never played below an 8. The first gem I ever unearthed and I still think of that signing to this day whenever FM or CM comes up. He was in his mid/late 20’s at the time I think, so hardly in the wonder kid bracket anymore, but still amongst the best bosmans I’ve ever brought in.
I've watched Nicolás Millán play, he's not horrendous by any means, but he's the shortest lived hype player I've ever seen in Chile. He got his debut aged 14 for Colo-Colo in 2006, a Colo-Colo team who were on course to a Copa Sudamericana (our version of the Europa League) 2nd place and 4 Chilean league titles in a row, so as a very young player in a notoriously skilled side (which boasted Bravo, Vidal and Alexis Sanchez), he was hyped the to Nth degree as the future of Chilean football. He got subbed in, missed an open net chance (it was a tap-in and he skied it), and never played for the club again as he rejected/wasn't offered a professional contract with Colo-Colo after returning from trials with Chelsea. He spent the next 2 years in the lower leagues of Argentina and after his return to Chile, he has spent most of his career in the Chilean 2nd and 3rd tier, without promotions or any newsworthy performances. The hype lasted a year, by 2007 no one recalled who he was.
Bakayoko and Moukoko were highly rated in all manager games of the era . To Madeira is a legend by himself, with countless stories told by players. He is like the Chuck Norris of CM/FM. My own personal one is signing him for Greek side Panionios for less than 100K and going on to win 3 CL (in five final appereances), 1 UEFA, 5 consecutive golden boots and scoring almost 3 goals a game (635/219).
Tonton.... wow what a nostalgia hit... He was amazing, I've only had one better midfielder in any of the games and that was a freak of nature... Guaranteed 30-40 goals from midfield every season
I was actually playing with Stancu at the exact moment he was mentioned in the video, I use him as a decent back-up striker in my Gençlerbirliği career mode save!
Tó Madeira is a real player, a Portuguese sports channel even made a few years back an enterview with him because how famous he was in the game, but in real life he only played in Portuguese amateur clubs.

Stuff like that doesn't go unnoticed Neil"
Love the 97/98 version. Objectively, nowhere near the best, but its so streamlined that I have it running in the background during work and dip in and out. Feels like it cuts hours off the day. Also, delighted to see Bakayoko get a mention lol.
Maxim Tsigalko, Orri Freyr Oskarsson, Daniel Braaten, Lebohang Mokoena, Cesar Carigano, so many of them ... I remember having Oskarsson and Braaten in my team and they combined for over 70 goals.
Sincere apologies, I signed two regens from Argentina, one from Boca & one from Newell's. For some reason I thought Monzon was the one from Boca (didn't check that screenshot!). Hope you can find it within you to forgive me.
To Madeira was actually the invention of a dodgy scout in Portugal and apparently as the game was approaching it’s deadline they didn’t have time to double check the information they had been given on him
Great to see you playing FM. Only one comment, Monzon didn't play Boca according to the image you send it was Newell's. Anyhow good luck trying to not lose him to a potential rival
Maxim Tsigalko, utter pro, banging them in without a peep for unreasonable contract demands, great dressing room influence and a pillar of the community... oh, Tsigalko...
To Madeira actually only exists because the creator of the game and his wife were booking their first holiday in years, his wife hadn't realised it was the Championship Manager database he had on his screen and typed in To Madeira Portugal thinking she was on a holiday booking site.

Yaya Sonogo, FM2010 or 11, along with the Hazzard brothers ran riot for me when I randomly picked Sheffield Wednesday. PL winners and back to back UCL winners. Ah, good times.
My favourite was Sergey Nikiforenko, a great Belarusian who could play in midfield or up front. Scored a shitload for me on CM 01/02 from the middle of the park making forward runs.
bro the tonton zola guy's story is sad, moving to sweden because you lost your parents at 10 years old, and then you have the chance to be a great footballer, even attracting AC milan, then going to derby and almost making the first team, and then you lose your brother and your passion for playing football
@@Giovetty7 these are world class players who haven't made it. AKA, haven't done shit. Have not even come close. Markovic and Gabigol still somewhat made it. They've played in the Premier League and Serie A respectively
In the 01/02 edition, Alexandros Papadopoulos from the a Greek 2nd Division club (can't remember which club off the top of my head) - amazing doesn't even come close to describing him from 18 years old he'd bang in 30+ goals every season, regardless of who he played for!
Day 3: 7 players or an XI of players who have defied the odds. IE Vardy playing champions league football after playing non-league. Cazorla coming back from injury, Modric going from being a refugee to balón dor winner etc.
Supat Rungratsamee was also really good in CM 03/04. He almost got called to Thailand national team because of the game . It came out later that he has faked his ID and was really a lot older. Ah, what an absolute FM legend.
I forget which edition maybe 2004 or 2005, but I have 3 ultimate-my must buy- wonderkids, Anatoli Todorov from Bulgaria, Damian Luna from Argentina, and Labinot Harbuzi from Sweden, Todorov was finisher like van nistelrooy, luna was top dribbler almost like maradona except he was a left-winger, and harbuzi was the engine on midfielder box 2 box on today term. The rest of starting member unfortunately too well known, especially ronaldinho LOL. I enjoy FM but i still missed the simple CM's UI.
I remember Millan and Stancu, had both of them in my clubs, also there were plenty of u18 players from Chile that had amazing stats. But, you are missing one FM legend, Freddy Adu.
Many many hours playing Championship Manager !!!! I wish i could have to play that again ( or FM ) .I always picked lower league teams and try to take as far as possible . Good luck with Bristol and stay safe .
Freddy Adu was a wonderkid that never made it. He was touted as the next Pele when he was 16. Funnily, he was signed by the team I follow, Aris Thessaloniki, for a season, but played only a few games if I remember correctly. I don't know if he's still in football.
Championship Manager 97/98 and FM2007 the only ones I’ve played and still play.........the knowledge and foresight I have on it is amazing.......time travelling manager
I'm happy to have Sherman cárdenas in my team rn, but it's unfortunate how much he underachieved. If he would've made it in Brazil with atletico mineiro, Europe would've come knocking on the door there after. Bless him though he's little daughter is fighting cancer rn
FIFA career mode is where it's at. I love breaking the game by maximizing the number of high potential players in my squad through the free transfer system and youth academy. Meaning funds can be reserved for scouting and signing regens
"What SI tipped them to be"... Well, its often a case of bad/corrupt (sometimes jokers) scouts/editors being used by SI when compiling their database for each version (that being said, I'm sure a lot of voluntary scouts do their best too). Tó Madeira is one such case (he had a few decent team mates too), but take for example the Sparta Sarpsborg squad in...I think it was the CM01/02 version; full of great players that could be used in most sides, when in real life they where OK on perhaps Norways 2nd level, if that. So, I for one don't take CM/FMs players stats seriously, the further you get from the main stream leagues, the more errors or joker edits there are. Not a criticism of the per se video though!
Nowadays they have a lot more checks and balances, the rise of the internet has made it easier for people to research and evaluate the database. There's a rule where the CA of the top 16 players at a club must add up to a reasonable number for that particular club's level, which stops cases like you described.
@@kierandavis3956 I hope so, that seems like a decent rule. I can see the fun side of "unreal" players, but sometimes it was too much. The odd Mark Kerr I can tolerate.

My favourite was Sergey Nikiforenko, a great Belarusian who could play in midfield or up front. Scored a shitload for me on CM 01/02 from the middle of the park making forward runs.
Thanks so much for not letting Brentford go up with QPR!
Yaya Sanogo was insane on I think maybe 14/15. Thought he'd be on this list!
bro the tonton zola guy's story is sad, moving to sweden because you lost your parents at 10 years old, and then you have the chance to be a great footballer, even attracting AC milan, then going to derby and almost making the first team, and then you lose your brother and your passion for playing football
Carlos Fierro? Lazar Markovic? Fábio Paim? Lucas Romero? Gabriel Barbosa?
Always used to pick Romero😂
Giovetty7 eder alvarez balanta
As if Gabigol 'didn't make it'
@@angelosvlahos i was expecting a world class player, not just a good one 😊
@@Giovetty7 these are world class players who haven't made it. AKA, haven't done shit. Have not even come close. Markovic and Gabigol still somewhat made it. They've played in the Premier League and Serie A respectively
7 best players who changed position mid career
Good video. But you missed the only player capable to beat Tó Madeira in CM 01/02. Maxim Tsigalko! Always +60 goals every season :D
In the 01/02 edition, Alexandros Papadopoulos from the a Greek 2nd Division club (can't remember which club off the top of my head) - amazing doesn't even come close to describing him from 18 years old he'd bang in 30+ goals every season, regardless of who he played for!
where is julius aghahowa or agahowa, can't remember which one is. used to play him everytime with different club in CM 01/02
Day 3: 7 players or an XI of players who have defied the odds. IE Vardy playing champions league football after playing non-league. Cazorla coming back from injury, Modric going from being a refugee to balón dor winner etc.
Kante used to be in non league football deeney got arrested and was crap
U can buy the old ones on ebay for about 5 quid
Can you do a video on the rise and fall of AS Monaco since they were in the champions league in 2016/17 and now are in the bottom half of ligue 1
Aren’t as Monaco like 4th you mean lyon
Ice wallow Come nah they were in the bottom of ligue 1 last year
Nobody Cares my bad also there in 9th earlier in the season they were 4th my bad
They also won the league a few years ago
Ice wallow Come yes
very nice compilation, i remember them all, thanks for the flashback
Tó Madeira (Antonio Lopes) does exist, he was a scout for CM0102 responsible for the stats of Gouveia :)
The player ratings on the CM 97/98 edition are wild, but in terms of addictive playability, that version is the nuts.
Maybe he can play a bit of fm in the channel
Yess please!!!!
Evandro Roncato from Guarani.....best aml out there
Best manager game (in my opinion) is Antoss 3. It's a shame that it's not well know outside of Germany. It was a lot of fun back in the day.
Do a video about : Brazilian born players who doesn't represent Brazil X1
Freddy Adu, Lebohang Mokoena, Benedikt Villakazi, Simon Vukčević, Van Der Borre, Mika Aariatolo, Eduardo Ratinho, Vicent Eneyama and much more
I signed Kennedy Bakiriouglu (not sure of the spelling) and after three seasons sold him for £150 million. Guy was unbelievable
Every prem club’s unsung hero this season
bruhh
Tonton Zola Moukoko is actually a teacher at my former school (Sköndalsskolan)
I'm about 1k hours into fm20 and can say that I've seen a few dozen players who play CB and Striker, but never CB and winger!
Nicolae mitea and Anthony van den borre in fm 05 were world class.
You should to know about Maxim Tsigalko
Fun fact: I live 5 minutes from Tonton Moukoko in Stockholm, Sweden @HITCSEVENS
Where is benjamin onwuachi?
Mark Kerr! Best CM on CM!
Tó Madeira is a real player, he played for Beira-Mar last season here in Portugal!
Hey Alfie! How about a video about top 7 World Cup Finals? I know Its very subjective But It could be a fun video:)
Dam tó Madera is a beast in football manager and in real life. This man does not know what he is talking about.
