Not that anyone expected it, the Gordon transfer turned out quite well so far
I would like to see a list of players who were world class for one club, transferred to another club and were trash, but after being transferred again became excellent players. Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry come to mind (they were good at Ajax and Monaco, were awful in Italy before they came to Arsenal), but i'm sure there were more players like them
Lukaku - world class in his last season with Everton, then trash at United and world class with inter.
Going back further, Ian rush was dominant with Liverpool, transferred to Italy and was abysmal, returned to Liverpool and won everything under the sun.
Spurs had our pants down for Ryan Mason. 8 appearances the previous season we go & pay £13 million 🤯 I know it all ended by unfortunate injury but he was never worth even half that.
Diego Forlan, great before United, then terrible at United, then amazing after
Mo Salah. Brilliant at Basle, awful at Chelsea, Brilliant at Roma, World class at Liverpool
Depending on how you judge his time at Barcelona, Griezmann could be one.
World class at Atletico Madrid, then didnt keep it up at Barcelona and now he is back being brilliant for Atletico
I do feel for Cutrone, he didn’t want to leave Milan and Nuno was never going to play anyone other than Raul up front.
Basically a confusing and disappointing transfer, basically 🤷🏻♂️
Basically a basically
@@maxkho00 basically
On the bright side, the fraud who stopped our progress and ruined half the squad is now jobless
It's all part of him finding his level. I think his move to Wolverhampton came off the back of a good performance at the u21 euros.
he was a dead player with no instinct or threat. then we signed Fabio silva who is even worse
As an Everton fan, Gordon to Newcastle is the best bit of business we've done in years
tbf considering Richarlisons form this season 60 mil was great for him as well
It wont be when he becones class because hes been coached properly LOL.
@Toonarmy he's got a bit of talent but he has a serious attitude problem which you've no doubt already seen
@Toonarmy he's a good squad player for where Newcastle are and obviously the money doesn't matter for you but as time goes on and you get better and better he will play less and less
@@connormitchell6446 yeah but hopefully Eddie Howe can sort him out. We will just have to wait and see.
'As much use as Peter Walton in a BT Sport studio' is a line I really appreciated.
I remember seeing Carillo playing for Southampton at Newcastle and he was pretty anonymous. Not the best way to deploy a club record fee
Everton absolutely laughing to the bank with that Gordon transfer. He's pony.
Worth noting too that Dwight McNeil has the same number of goals (7) and assists (3) this season as Gordon has managed his entire career lmao. McNeil is still only 23 as well, feels like he's been around forever.
@@brotherm7274 McNeil has been a regular epl player since 19 at Burnley. He's an absolute gem and turns 24 this November.
@@brotherm7274 always rated McNeil.....had no idea he was that young.
Far too early to call yet. All depends how it goes within a year from now.
@DJVm4GOD1 I'd also like to give Gordon time before calling him a flop, sincerely as a relegation stressed Toffee fan. He was algd for us but most certainly wasn't as good as he thinks he is. Interested to see how Howe can improve him.

Shoya Nakajima as a notable mention. Al-Duhail SC paid Portimonense €35m for him and then sold him to Porto for €12m 5 months and 7 games later. Porto then loaned him out and left on a free (getting sent of seconds into his debut for Antalyaspor).
Complete waste of money for him. He was never a big team player, his attitude was poor at best and he only came to FC Porto because his manager his close to Porto's board. I doubt any team would spend more than a handful of millions on him, if it wasn't for his agent connections.
@@onestepcloser06 He looked like a great RUclips highlight player. From what I saw he was decent on the ball but went often missing. That period after Portimonese ruined his career. How is Andy Carroll not on this list???, half a decent season at Newcastle in 2010/11 before a January move to Liverpool for £35m which was a record fee for a British footballer at the time. He scored just 6 goals in 44 games before eventually leaving for West Ham.
He had just scored 11 in the first 19 league games for newcastle when he signed for liverpool, and was only 21 at the time
Yes, he was overpriced, but when compared to perez, who scored 12 in 37 at the age of 26, he is less average than 7th on this list
Despite the fee and his time at Liverpool; he's too good a player to be on this list. Most of these were quickly free transfers after their flop moves and continued never display a scintilla of why the former club splashed any significant amount of cash.
Carroll went on to prpve his averageness after his transfer. At the time, liverpool thought they were paying for a player with decent potemtial. If west ham had paid the same for him as liverpool, hed likely be on here.
@@andrewbeecroft6509A good player destroyed by injuries tbh.
@@jackjude Don't be silly.
Carroll had 1 half of a season worth note.
He was garbage at Liverpool, garbage at West Ham, garbage at his 2nd spell at Newcastle, and garbage everywhere else.
And all for a record transfer fee....
Sorry he is the most over priced player ever.
Day 4: 7 Best Loan moves ever.
The loan moves that have greatly benefited the team receiving the player for a limited amount of time. While not exactly the best, I always think of Morientes to Monaco as an example.
Shoutout to FM Mnager content creator Zealand who inspired me for that
To me one of the best is definitely Tammy Abraham to Aston Villa scoring 26 goals in 40 games and helping fire them to promotion
YOU GOTTA GET LOOOOOOAAAAAANNNNNNNSSSSSSS
@@connor4435 Mings was arguably even better in January.. for a 6 month loan Villa were mid table and ended up promoted.
Gordon was a shocking one that didnt make sense from the start, unless Newcastle were thinking of home grown points. Even so, apart from his footballing ability, his poor character and attitude at Everton was clear for all to see from his behaviour.
Perez is a great example too, and it shows how much poor business Leicester have done alongside the good (they were seen as the best run club in England at one point).
As a Wolves fan, that Cutrone deal still haunts us mentally to this day, at least Fabio Silva is now looking worth it though.
He’s just a shit Ross Barkley. Which is saying something. Says a lot about football clubs when they’d rather spend £45m to have homegrown players when they’ve all got academies full of them they can use for nothing.
Gordon isn’t so shocking now is he 😅
Ohh how the life has changed 😂
@@Jay-ob4ti Funny how quickly things change in football. If I called Anthony Gordon as shit as Ross Barkley now I'd be crucified
Turns out, he has a great attitide (never had a bad one tbf), great ability and great potential, he was being let down by a joke of a club.
I saw Jordan Ibe score a cracker in a pre-season friendly for Bournemouth against Cardiff and then he almost drove into me with his big car. That’s all I remember from his time at Bournemouth.
It’s a shame to hear about his struggles in recent years and I hope he’s in a better frame of mind now.
didnt he also crash his Bentley into a coffee shop and then drove off?
@@jacksonkelley6754 yep and was banned from driving. I recall he was close to losing his licence anyway
9 months ago I would've agreed with the Antony Gordon shout. But as of when I'm typing this, I think that he has been our best player with 18 G/A in a LW position which was originally meant for Barnes. If he keeps this up he could be an outside shout to get in the Euro Squad.
Gordon has been very good this season certainly worth 45 mil
Milan spending 21 million on Bertolacci, 24 million on Conti and 37 million on Caldara is also crazy just to add some crazy Milan signings
Conti and Caldara looked like they had potential after they did pretty good at Atalanta - Conti got derailed by injury and Caldara never developed, but they were simply bets that did not pan out.
Bertolacci on the other hand was just a mystery even at that time.
Caldara è stato scambiato con Bonucci. Bertolacci è stato pagato così tanto perché avevamo detto alla Roma che riscattavano Mattia Destro senza mai farlo mentre Conti senza infortuni sarebbe stato un gran bel giocatore
Loving the thumbnail here. Aged like milk!
Alfie, a suggestion for your "What on Earth is going on at" series (but that might take a long time because it's just the tip of the iceberg, so you might have to keep track and wait for a while): there's been investigations recently in Brazil regarding match-fixing schemes and illegal betting with football players here - even from Série A (1st division)
Sam Clucas for £18m from Hull to Swansea is another, only to be sold by Swansea to fellow Championship side Stoke for £7m the season after.
£7m about £6m more than he was worth as well lmao
More on Guido Carillo - he was well known to then manager Pellegrino, who managed him in Argentina. He convinced the board he was the real deal and was signed for him in January as we were bottom 3 at the time. He promptly looked like a headless chicken losing 0-3 on debut at Newcastle before Pellegrino was sacked the next day, so a pointless panic buy as hughes then Ralph didn't use him. Pellegrino was then manager at Elche where he ended up on a free.
Sounds sort of similar to a couple of January Transfers made except I'm not sure if they are as bad as Carillo or just don't fit into the squad since they seemingly have had success elsewhere.
@@stupidshot4PC Danny Drinkwater, a starting player for PL Champions Leicester City in 2016.
Anthony Gordon not looking bang average anymore. Baller! If he keeps this up he'll go from 'insanely overpriced' to being well worth the money

Great video! Cheered me up from simulating to 2050 in fm23 and seeing my Man Utd get relegated after have van Nistelrooj have his 4th stint at the club and take us down
Maguire definitely falls under that category. He's been utter excrement so far.
It's Alfie's slight Hull City bias showing here, considering Maguire used to play good for the Tigers
Think Maguire is recency bias. And Maguire played well for Leicester, Hull and England. I find he has had horrid seasons, but he is not average by any means. We have seen too much quality from him.
@Matthias W
Agreed. I dont know why the hate keeps coming. He's had a top career and obviously has ability if he plays for Man United and England. ETH has failed in getting him going again because he was very decent in his first year at United. And continues to be decent for England to this day.
@@bobbypukes605 I wouldnt say ETH failed him, ETH makes utd play a high line, which exposes players who are slow like maguire, the are just not a match and its not to blame from either side
Ah Danny Drinkwater. The first player on FM 19 that I had to loan for 3 seasons because he was underperforming even on the early stages of the FA Cup, until Derby County made a offer near the end of the contract for less than 1.5 million pounds.

a documentary of Borussia Dortmund and how they were extremely close to bankruptcy in 2002 time and how Bayern had to save them. The extreme difficulties the club has had to manage within to get back to where they are #thepeopleschannel
LOL Bayern did not save them 😂😂😂😂
Bayern gave them a loan of 2 million when Dortmund had a debt of over 200 million. The only thing Bayern saved was the salaries of the staff and probably some player's wages. Still a kind gesture but they were far from the ones who saved the club

Alfie, you should do a series of videos that looks at the best football player born on each day of the year broken up into 12 videos one for each month. You could release the videos over an entire year with videos releasing on the first of their respective months to spread the videos out as well.
To let you know for the future, as you have seemed interested in correct pronunciation for other languages, the double L in Spanish names and words, such as Carrillo, actually makes a "yuh" sound, as in "Cah-ree-yo".
Also, this was another great video!
one player who deserve a mention in my opion would be Fiete Arp. he was an average young talant at HSV who got bought by Bayern just afer a few games the fee was only 4 million but the wages were insane. Fiete Arp made more money in 3 years playing 13 min for Bayern then players of his caliber make in theire whole carrer. An absolute stroke of geniuse by the player agent to get this deal.
Actually a good shout bro, think he was on 90k per week

Am I the only one that thinks Richarlison is ridiculously overhyped and overrated? He scored 5 goals in his single season in Watford and somehow Everton thought that warranted forking over £35mil for him. Then after not scoring more than 13 goals in any season in Merseyside, Spurs decide he's worth £60mil?!
Seriously, if his name was Richardapolous or O'Richard instead of Richarlison, no one would pay more than £20mil for him
O'Richard sounds quite hilarious

Jordon Ibe’s story saddens me. I loved how electric he once was on the ball

Of course dude
The scouts only notify the club about those promising players, the one who buy those players r usually the sporting director or maybe the manager of the team.
When people like Harry Rednapp are involved then under table payments are part of the buissnes. They love selling the players then buying them back. Keeps everyone in buissnes.

20m for Lazar Markovic was pretty abysmal
Harry Maguire absolutely tops this list by a country mile. He is average on his best day. Has been utterly crap for united and can’t get into the team these days. HE COST £80,000,000. Pogba isn’t far behind him £89,000,000 and did absolutely nothing and I mean nothing in a United shirt and is average at best.
100% Denilson to Real Bepis should have been in this list
How on earth is Rhian Brewster not on the list. £23 mil for sheff Utd. 0 goals in the prem, 3 goals next season, 1 goal the next. 4 goals in 2 years of the championship.
I think as we move into the realms of even the lower end premier league teams having huge transfer budgets some will take greater financial risks on trying to bring inunproven players with potential in the hopes it pays off. Obviously the clubs they are coming from will also want to try and get as much as they can from such deals.
Hi Alfie,
Could you do a 7 list of your greatest title races and relegation battles? Would be interested to hear your opinion. 👍🏾
Agree. This would be a good topic.
3 minutes for an intro is everything the world needs.
If it wasn't for his international exploits, Richarlison would be due for that "average" tagline
I think he will come good. Conte only subbed him on in the 80th+ minute of games (Danjuma after 89 mins and Djed Spence not at all!) that's if he ever got on the field. He has looked sharp when coming on, gets in good positions, had a lot of goals chalked off for off-side. Just been a bit unlucky I think, we will see next season with a new manager.
And if my grandma had wheels she'd be a bike
Gabriel Obertan and Bebe at Man Utd. Whatever their fee was at the time, they both deserve a shout.
Could you do a documentary about the background of Evangelos Marinakis?
First player that came to my mind was wimmer. (Stoke fan btw) So it’s nice to see us come first in something for a change :)
Very surprised Rhian Brewster didn’t get a mention, from Liverpool to Sheffield United for £23.5m was crazier than the Jordan Ibe transfer for me, don’t think he’s made much of a contribution at Sheffield unless I’m mistaken?
@@MADCHESTERUTD-ui3kq Brewster did have a very good half season on loan at Swansea under Steve Cooper scoring 10 goals in 20 appearances which fired Swansea to an unlikely place in the 2019-2020 Championship playoffs. He had looked the real deal during that time.
Yes, he was the first player that came to mind for me.
0:18 for what Hazard was playing, that's not "abismal".. nobody can predict the future, it's so easy to say that now
Nobody going to talk about Andy Carroll huh?
I can see a pattern developing...Brendon Rodgers
Harry Maguire i don't care what anyone says no way was he worth the prize tag that Man Utd bought him from Leicester City and quite frankly has performed quite abysmally and been a constant liability in the Man Utd defence
He used to play for Hull City after all. Its clear Alfie's bias showed a bit in that take
Video idea: best player ever/right now from each premier league academy
Never thought I'd see Sturaro in an HITC 7s video
We had our pants down with the Gordon transfer, just have to hope Eddie can transform him like he has done with other players. At least we can afford it now I guess lol
Don’t get your hopes up mate; we were giving it the ‘give him time’ treatment for 2 years.
Eddie howe is a magician
I remember Kevin Wimmer being very good for Cologne. He stabilized the defence and showed good mentality. He was a true loss at that point in time.
might be too soon to say but fc augsburg forking out 16 million for ricardo pepi to have him play 4 games and then loaning him out to groningen still boggles my mind
This is not a list of “average” players. The players covered here in many cases didn’t play much for their clubs and in some cases are not even in football anymore. If that’s “average” then that’s a sorry average. This was a list of “lesser known busts.”
No mention of Dominic Solanke? signed for 20m by Bournemouth at a time when his record in top flight football across England and the Netherlands read as: 46 games, 8 goals, and his most recent season with Liverpool stood as a remarkable 21 games, 1 goal.
Which has since expanded to a rather astonishing 118 games, 17 goals...
keeping in mind this guy's a striker...
Good in the championship, but you're not paying 20m in 2019 for a Championship quality striker.
Hello from the future. Gordon, when not injured, is somewhat class and one of Newcastles most consistent performers.

he was average.he hAD ONE good season in leicester
Yeah his first season in the prem I thought he was really good too
Same, although as a Leicester supporter he's been very frustrating to watch. He couldn't hit a barn door most of the time, but he always put in a shift off the ball. Definitely spent too much on him though.
That pic of Drinkwater drinking water is brilliant 😂😊
I was waiting for you to highlight Claire Balding. You let me down mate.
Danny Murphy on a free to Blackburn when we got relegated was overpriced. Shocking
Maybe a video about whats happening in sampdoria, only 3 games won in league whole season and only one at home. Theyre also gonna get relegated after staying 11 years in seria a
Make a video about instances where 2nd or lower division clubs played in European competition by virtue of winning the domestic cup the previous season. Like Wigan Athletic won the FA cup in 2013 which qualified them for europa league but were relegated from PL They played in the 2013/14 europa league whilst being a championship club
quite surprised you didnt mention sam clucas honestly!
I watched Wimmer play for spurs against Colchester in the FA Cup once. I have never seen a more one footed player in my life, he would twist his body into mad angles to make sure it was his left foot he was tackling with 💀
Until you'd see Erik Lamela in the same team. In his last season for us, at least until March he hadn't completed a pass with his right foot. Also scored 2 rabona's to avoid using his right foot lol
Contribution of Peter Walton in a BT studio had me in tears
Imbula to Stoke is a ridiculous signing as well. Also, Fabio Silva for £40m is definitely up there
I mean, Jack Grealish is good, but at 117 million euros he's the definition of overpriced
Some West Ham players come to mind like Jonathan Calleri,Jordan Hugill, Gotham tore and regouli
You are totally regarding these respective players who are unfortunate to be in this category and hope that Gordon would not be included in this category, good friend Alfie!!!🏋️♂️🙏
wow. never thought i’d hear seth johnson’s name again. i started watching football around the time of his move to leeds and was under the impression that he was a big star. 🤣
Jordon Ibe - what can I say? I thought it was a ridiculous fee at the time, and despite a handful of performances that showed glimpses of his potential at Bournemouth, he was mostly a passenger. His fitness was an issue, but noises coming from Dean Court suggested that his attitude was a greater problem. It's worth saying that while Eddie Howe may seem like the loveliest guy in football, he can be very ruthless when it comes to players that don't fit with his method (see also Tyrone Mings and Jack Wilshere at Bournemouth - Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser (ironically) at Newcastle).
Sturaro is well known to have been done as a sort of deal between juve and genoa to because of accounting reasons.
Piątek is harsh. He was actually good at Genoa, and the half season in Milan after he joined in January. But then he fell out of favor because Ibrahimović, and then left to join the basket case of a club that is Hertha Berlin, who are basically the German Everton on steroids, and have 0 clue what they're doing. Sure, he was poor at Milan besides that half season, but so was the entire team. Hope he can revive his career elsewhere
Sturaro never even played for Sporting, he was injured and then his loaned got terminated in January. So not even a season on loan
Surely this should just be a list Chelsea's 2022-23 transfer signings
Sure it's been mentioned somewhere in the comments, but sturaro is a massive asterisk to this list, seeing as his transfer was likely a plusvalenze deal
Too early to speak on Gordon. £40m is actually cheap for any above average English footballer these days. I get what people say about his behaviour, but he has that arrogance of a player who wants to be one of the best. I think with his personality he will work hard to improve himself as a player.
At least so far this season - you've been absolutely spot on
I love how even if this video is not worst transfers ever, it feels even worse than that, this feels like there was no reason to sign this guys and unsurprisingly they failed, which makes for a dreadful signing. I would love for this to be a series covering other leagues since only 1 Serie A signing with the rest being prem
You could've added any number of our signings this season.
Freuler, Dennis and Neco Williams we got flat out dry bummed for. Awoniyi could end up in the same category though at least shows you something every now and then. Even Gibbs-White comes nowhere near justifying the fee and we got ripped off badly enough on free transfers for Lingard and Shelvey that I'd put them in the Drinkwater category.
I think although true that Freuler didn't play a good season, he still did a great job at Atalanta
These are all well and good but looking in retrospect it’s easier to say these fees were insane or not. I’d like you to estimate what future fees are being thrown around and in the future come back to these are review whether the fees were justified or not ⚽️
This could be a video full of Everton players over past few years really surprised there isn’t any on it whatsoever
I was there when Jordon Ibe scored his debut professional goal as a 15 year old, shame things never worked out for him.
Ayoze was INCAPABLE of playing anywhere other than the 10. But, you know, Rogers.
Basically anyone signed by Manchester United in the last decade, with minimal exceptions.
Basically anyone signed by Chelsea in the last 5 years, with minimal exceptions. Emphasis on Mudryk.
Given Gordon’s stats and his general attitude you would have to say Newcastle paid way over the odds.
Genuinely though Gordon would be in this judging by the comments and thumbnail. However, jury is still out for Gordon at the moment for us. Big summer and preseason for him. We can decide if hes average or a flop next season. Howe is a magician afterall ⚪⚫
He can't get into the team right now. When Newcastle get Champs League football and can attract a better calibre of player, what shot does Gordon have?
@@bigc181 Because the team is playing good? While I get rotation is needed, but you don't drop a wining team. There is also the case that EH seems to bed in plays. Be that, he'll slowly bring them in. He did the same with Botman, Bruno, and Isak.
@@bigc181 To be fair to the lad, he is 22 and he's come from Everton who are in absolute disarray. Howe said he wasn't fit when he arrived. I think he'll get there and become a very valuable player for us, but only time will tell.
