    The very notion of judging literal children by appearance is so twisted, not to mention the damage this kind of environment this does to kids long-term

    • @maloneaqua
      @maloneaqua Месяц назад +24

      right. if you enter your child in a pageant and they lose and then cry, then what? You have to console them and assure them that they are beautiful even if the judges said differently, so why set them up to be judged as not good enough in the first place? This has to be an extension of the parents themselves - the mother who gets the ego boost from having what is considered to be the most beautiful child.

    From the online article, "Why red states won't ban child pageants":
    _It’s also telling where these pageants are being held. The states that hold the most contests are Florida, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky. All of these states have passed anti-LGBTQ+ bills, including bans on adult drag shows, for the expressed reason that they are protecting children from “inappropriate sexualized conduct.”_

    Pageant PARENTS sexualize female children via competition visuals (adult-like makeup, clothing, accessories, choreographed routines, false teeth, and wigs, spray tan, music, etc), choices associated w/ 18+ ADULT women. Children are controlled, misdirected, and exploited by parents' aforementioned choices in order to remain competitive. Pageant parents, I'm so sorry for the traumatic, ergo-bruising experiences you dealt w/ directly or indirectly in your life, but take care of your emotional and psychological issues, and do not foist them on innocent children.

    The mother trying to equate people criticizing child beauty pageants with people who blame rape victims is on a whole other level of delusional. It’s not at all the same thing and people aren’t blaming kids for dressing a certain way, they’re blaming the irresponsible parents for knowing what kind of evil there is in the world and parading their innocent kids out into it dressed up like adults when they’re too innocent to know that how they’re dressed isn’t normal.

  • @BrokeredHeart

    It still makes my jaw drop at that mother defending her Pretty Woman decision. It's pretty clear what she was trying to insinuate, not that her daughter in any way resembled Julia Roberts, but was playacting as a character that was a hooker. Not to mention, that's not even one of the most iconic looks from that film. The brown and white polkadot dress she wore to the polo match, or the red gown she wears to the opera, even the white dress and hat she wears out shopping, any of those might have been passable as a little girl parading around in (dated) fashionable clothing.
    Dressing little girls up in frocks and dresses, and even evening wear or costume jewelry isn't a crime. It's natural for kids to be curious and fascinated by glitzy clothes and makeup and accessories, and them performing for an audience is something that can teach confidence and personal worth. We don't seem to mind as much when competitions are based more on merit of skill, like dance, gymnastics, figure skating, and theatrical performance when it's not directly associated with the evaluation of personal beauty. But when the parents are "dolling" their child up for prize money, pushing them to fad diets, tanning booths, and fake dentures and wigs, it gets weird and uncomfortable. Then drawing a direct line to an obvious, very disturbing movie parallel and saying that people are wrong for criticizing it, is just flabbergasting and deeply upsetting. She openly admitted to doing it to ensure her kid got air time on national TV, so what more can this be chalked up to than the exploitation of her own child for 15 minutes of fame?

    So she dressed ur toddler like a prostitute and then dressed her up again with removable pieces of clothing and then acted shocked when ppl questioned how she is as a mother...She lit admitted of trying to catch the judges attention..I guess by any means necessary...Women like this sometimes makes me think...making ppl pass a parenting test before being allowed to have kids might be a good idea... Definitely the type of mother that would encourage her daughter to go to a Diddy party....Don't matter what happens, as long as there's a chance u might get famous from it.

    I was literally in the middle of commenting how I really don’t think these outfits sexualize these kids at all when in the last 40 seconds they show that girl with the tear away skirt and holy crap that’s definitely sexualized. Most of it is not overtly sexual I’d say, but the stuff that is is pretty rough and hard to rationalize. Let kids have their childhood, jeez!
