This is more than a game for me. It changed the way i think about our existence, it made me appreciate what i got and what other people have. My favorite game of all time
Its like a better take on the concept on Detroit: Become Human, instead of AI that is so like humans that it blurs the line, its a human mind that is copied, essentially becoming AI but not artificial, natural intelligence in machines, copies of minds, of souls.
The first cutscenes make it seem like it is a typical horror game in which the person was made a robot. Then as the movie progresses...oh god. This is so good.
If instead of killing Simon in the first suit, you wiped his brain and put Catherine, then there would have been both a physical Simon and Catherine. At the end, he could have gone back to the research station and they could both have lived together trying to restore humanity. Also, don't kill the Wau, it's slowly restoring earth. The first creatures it made were monster, but the last one it made was you. The wau is evolving and trying to repair things.
Maybe Simon could somehow reprogram the Wau to make it more human-like on a cellular level? Sure, the last one it made was Simon, but Simon was still, all things considered himself because he had a cortex chip and a gel structure body. "A sound mind in a sound body" as Catherine put it.
Is this legit ending in the actual game? Because somehow I have thought about this, too. I can understand the contradictory feelings of having copies of oneself, however I never understand why people in Soma want to kill their old selves that much. To me even if it is a copy, it's a different entity. And Catherine and Simon are as humane to me as they can be. I mean, the most practical('devoid of humanity'?) thing in that scenario besides launching the Ark is to make as many copies of consenting people as possible and connect them to physical constructs. So that there will still be enough intellectual beings on earth and maybe eventually they will figure out something one day.
The end.... WOW!!! The end took the whole concept to an entire new level! And the movie.... spellbound!!! Cannot say anything!!! Beyond expectations!!!! Superb!!!

The ending wasn't a surprise at all, they literally tell you the whole game it is copy and pasting a consciousness, not cutting and pasting a consciousnesses, once the original transfer happened it becomes clear what is gonna happen when the ark launches

That switch scene tho. You can hear Catherine tear up when Simon called her disgusting. I mean, I would regret making Simon go through that switch if i was her.
My guess is that they got there via eggs or a package or something many years ago. Say a package of rotting food that went unnoticed as their eggs spawned. Its just like how rats got on remote islands when humans were discovering them. They probably fed on garbage or the sea gunk that gets inside the buildings. Good deal of mold can build up in damp environments and I'd imagine the bottom of the ocean is as damp as it gets...
This is the first time I've heard of this game, and I gotta say, the sound design is absolutely incredible. gives me "portal if it was a horror game" vibes and I absolutely love it

Explanation for those who dont understand: Back then its hard for me to understand, coin flip and all that but i now i finally know the true explanation In this game simon thought its 1 character can switch from one body to another. Only 1 character But actually its 4 different characters, you just duplicate yourself. But the newer copy retains the memory of the previous copy. The previous copy is still alive. The game makes you switch into 4 different characters and not the same 1 character in a new body. 2:38:04 simon still dont understand how it works. He thought there would be two copy of simons and if he won the "coin flip" he would control the new body. And if he lose he would stuck in the old body while the 2nd consciousness takes the new body. But this is not the case since there is no consciousness transfer in the first place. There is no coin flip Basically the status of these 4 characters, Human simon: dead years ago Diving suit simon:got battery drained Power suit simon: stuck in the dark Ark simon: live happily
I love this game, but this the first cut scene always makes me chuckle .... *Simon profusely bleeding from his head* "Simon, you're bleeding" "Oh, that? No big deal, my brain just tends to bleed out my skull once in awhile" "Here, drink this red liquid......IT'S GREEN"
Norse Man I kinda think that since they were in a car she was kinda talking about a traffic light at night, it’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
Oh wow. Thanks for this vid. Not a lot of games actually hit me hard. The ending was depressing as heck. The story is amazing, if not distressing in parts (particularly the last part). Very much appreciate this!
What many people dont understand, is that catherine lied to simon because she wanted the simon in the ARK to feel happy and not know that he was just a copy and the real simon was just left behind in PHI. Also she lied because simon needed motivation to get in site PHI and launch the ARK into space. He wouldnt propably have even tried to help catherine with the ARK if he would have know the truth.
Could be. She's also just kind of insensitive and honestly may not have even considered how the truth might impact him. Given the character I can imagine him going through the whole thing because he would have had a hard time understanding the reality of things. By the time it saved on him, what was done was done.
Man the re-creation of the TTC/Osgoode station is actually pretty good. The trains don't have nearly that level of graffiti but it was pretty awesome to see. Would have been even better if they got the actual voice clip from the TTC lady saying "Now Arriving at: Osgoode. Osgoode Station. Doors will open on the right."
@@ch4bby735 yeah, well said. It's easy to armchair quarterback reason from our perspective, but experiencing the reality of it would have been surreal. I can absolutely imagine people not really "getting it."
He wasn’t really dumb, he just didn’t quite get it. The first two times (First waking up, then transferring to the new suit), he didn’t really understand the process (and Cath didn’t exactly clarify his misconceptions until after it happened the second time - I wonder why?). The third time, he figured that he would be transferred to the ARK while the original stayed behind - not understanding the 50/50 nature of copying a human mind and that there was a chance he would “stay” in the suit. I honestly don’t think I would have put it together either, given everything else to focus on.
Thanks for making this! Got a couple hours in last night. I wouldn't have finished the game on my own, just toooo slow and stressful. Glad I can experience the story here.
Small scene but when Simon get knocked out and sees dream being at his apartment with Ashley. He is shocked and asks, how this happend and she replies: "we fell in love." Then Simon has some seizure and wakes from dream, since Ashley did not have that kind of feelings for him. Dunno, that scene stayed with me.

The fact is that structure gel could probably repair the damage but not the software - since that is on a virtual level, can't be mended by nanites. Same way that if someone has a brain damage and forgets things the brain can heal but the memories are gone.
I don't really see the ending as depressing. Sure Simon is left to die a 2nd time in the ocean, but he will live on in the ARK. Plus you gotta remember this isn't the real Simon. His consiousness, his soul has been copied over twice now (3 if you count the transfer to the abyss diving suit). Plus if the theory that death allows you to be part of the ARK consiousness is true, our Simon will be a part of the ARK afterlife once he dies on earth. I see the ending as hopeful for humanity, and for Simon.
yeah but still it's really frightening. like i don't care how hard shit gets i'm not giving up my awareness just for my memories to live in an eternal vr game.
I remember the 1st time that i saw this, it was really freaky and I enjoyed it very much. I hope that I discover things that i had not seen before on this, your upload. thanks so much for your work it has brought me many hours of visual entertainment and some enlightenment as well. Catherine the machine is profoundly lacking in empathy. She's oblivious to basic sensitivities. But in her recordings, she seemed more feeling. It's the one thing that bothers me the most about this whole thing.
"Dr Munshi?" "Just mr Munshi, but I'm working on it" ok... Bye. game over. Ok seriously, I understould what was going on from the beginning... it's the same principle as teleportation in other sci-fi. You just copy/paste yourself and if the original isn't deleted (or rather killed), from that person's perspective, nothing happened. There's no coin being flipped, there's literally just a copy of you doing what you set out to do and you're just.. there.. alone. They only show the perspective of the clone everytime untill the part where they launch the satelite. This whole story was just depressing as F. I hope the simon that stayed behind found a quick death... the idea of being alone in the dark, the last human existence on earth.. with its mostly artifical body lasting presumably for years at the bottom of the sea.. it's too lonely and depressing to comprehend. In a way the idea of what remains of human consciousness living on board a satelite, in a digital simulation seems depressing as well but then how do we know if we're not in one right now? Honestly... it was a good story. I didn't feel the need to put in the weird jumpscares and monsters.. as a puzzle game it seems to very much stands on its own. In the end it was less of a survival horror and more of a existential one.
i think the design of the monsters is really unique i love the sound design, sound effects, ambient textures yes it was such an emotionally overwhelming experience but that's part of the beauty and magic of this game it takes you someplace deep dark upsetting overwhelming and existential emotional turmoil but the game really gives you the opportunity to question all of these things in life we take for granted that we don't really think about that we don't contemplate so when we're presented with this uncomfortable reality it makes us feel emotions we don't want to feel because we know we can never escape them
Brilliant video... really like the eerie feeling... Tip the balance by gaining “Insight” and going “Insane”... where have I heard this before 🧐... another 2015 videogame
Oh man... you kinda ruined the end. It would be better if you didn't cut the part after end credits and the part after exiting the cave... you had to walk through it cuz it's really beautiful.
They have succeeded in buying humanity several thousand years to enjoy themselves whilst trapped helplessly in a space-borne mmorpg server. What comes next after this except annihilation or erasure, given that the “humans” aboard the ARK are now reduced to stored digital data?
The human race diminished to a bunch of ones and zeros (computer language). Yeah that was grim. Apart from that, thank you for this upload. I really enjoyed just watching it as a movie experience. I've been finding I like to doing that more with games as opposed to playing some of them. I make exceptions for games that have something a little different for their game-play.
So much for a dlc or a sequel, I had a thought what if wau still exist give a take millions of years and it would change into sentient race like us no pain, no insanity just simple simple race like us humans
I remember getting killed a lot and playing this game was a challenge... Only till close to the end did I finally figure out all you had to do was look away and you wouldn't die 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣
imagine a good ending of soma; they actuallly tried reproducing and making their own food under there and stopped the wau, they survived long enough for the atmosphere to get safer and they populated Omega, and kept going and after a while it was safer and they started to populate the surface again
With your feet on the air and your head on the ground Try this trick and then spin it Your head will collapse But there's nothing in it And you'll ask yourself Where is my mind?
Has anybody thought about the utility of the Power Suit? I mean, here we see Simon killing the WAU by putting his arm into the thing's heart or whatever, and then it bites off his arm, then proceeding to break the Power Suit they had to obtain, and therefore letting water inside of the Suit through the broken arm Simon has now, including all the pressure, considering they're in the abyss. So... The injury is letting the water get inside his suit, and everything seems to be alright after that, no problem. If so, what's the point of a Power Suit? 😂
I think the power suits material structure is able to withstand the pressure of the deep sea. And Simon's a robot, he doesn't need air or anything. I'm not sure how his innards could not break but maybe his gel blocked the arm air way? Idk..
Simon wakes up on Pathos-2, strange music starts playing, and Faith Seed appears welcoming him to the BLISS!!! Then proceeds to introduce him to the father, the chosen one.... Turns out Simon is inside Far Cry 5, what a missed opportunity for the smoothest transition into another game ruclips.net/video/gsXa9LPT5Ms/видео.html

I hope to find something in your merch that I want to buy. I cannot support you in a large way, but I want to do so with a purchase. Thanks again. -VG
Maybe he shouldn't have drained the other himself's battery
Why?
@@Fliqaa so that he has his other self to come and help or talk to lol
goddamn that's depressing
Llama Llama please tell me you watched all the way to the end
Even the end is depressing...
Damn. What a sad/happy ending.... I don't know what to think. 10/10 game!
thanks for who ever download this video or made it ...
Great story! :D i couldn't stop until the end :D
Catherine the machine is profoundly lacking in empathy. She's oblivious to basic sensitivities. But in her recordings, she seemed more feeling. It's the one thing that bothers me the most about this whole thing.
"Dr Munshi?" "Just mr Munshi, but I'm working on it"
ok... Bye.
In the end it was less of a survival horror and more of a existential one.
i think the design of the monsters is really unique
i love the sound design, sound effects, ambient textures
yes it was such an emotionally overwhelming experience
but that's part of the beauty and magic of this game
it takes you someplace deep dark upsetting overwhelming and existential emotional turmoil
but the game really gives you the opportunity to question all of these things in life we take for granted
that we don't really think about
that we don't contemplate
so when we're presented with this uncomfortable reality
it makes us feel emotions we don't want to feel
because we know we can never escape them
This Game Has Turned Out To Be Something I Never Expected It To Be And It Is So Fucked Up ,
But It Is Absolutely Fucking Brilliant....
This was awesome thank you for making this!
Brilliant video... really like the eerie feeling... Tip the balance by gaining “Insight” and going “Insane”... where have I heard this before 🧐... another 2015 videogame
Yeah. Can't place it either..
now I curl up into a ball and die
awesome story!!!!! same time sad and trippy
Anyone else go nuts when he looked back at the very toothy fish while walking past those lights? Haven't been scared that bad in a long time😨😨😨
Oh man... you kinda ruined the end. It would be better if you didn't cut the part after end credits and the part after exiting the cave... you had to walk through it cuz it's really beautiful.
*THE VOICE ACTING THO*
Muchas gracias por el momento.... buena la historia!!!
muy bien jugado....
It would have been if immediately after realizing that simon 2 is in Imogen reeds body he only speaks in her vocal chords.
2:32:45 is when shit got too real holy fuck.
I take that back 2:37:23 is when shit got REALLY REALLY real!

This game is masterful
one of my all-time favorite games!
Could you guys do a movie edit of Jade Empire? That would be fantastic.
2:03:40 : Sweet baby Jesus, did my stress level take a spike during this moment of the video!!
They have succeeded in buying humanity several thousand years to enjoy themselves whilst trapped helplessly in a space-borne mmorpg server. What comes next after this except annihilation or erasure, given that the “humans” aboard the ARK are now reduced to stored digital data?
NO COMMENTS - great!
I played this before nice view
+Red Swagx It's a great game =)
good jod
+Junior Banks subscribe
Yes
+Junior Banks to me
The human race diminished to a bunch of ones and zeros (computer language). Yeah that was grim. Apart from that, thank you for this upload. I really enjoyed just watching it as a movie experience. I've been finding I like to doing that more with games as opposed to playing some of them. I make exceptions for games that have something a little different for their game-play.
It's always been ones and zeros
Just in neurons
i feel bad for peeps playing this the first time
OMG!! this story line was great. I would totally hate to live in that alternative earth though.
So much for a dlc or a sequel, I had a thought what if wau still exist give a take millions of years and it would change into sentient race like us no pain, no insanity just simple simple race like us humans
@twizzm ok
@twizzm ok
@@Davi-ph5ib there is a dlc the path least threaded
AWESOME! Thank you!
top 5 games of all time
Crazy that the original guy went on with his life and his copied concsiousness woke up 1000 years later
100 years, not 1000. ;)
"its just a Robot Simon"
Yaaaaa, ya sure it is kid.
That ending was so sad I cried 😭😭😭😭
2:06:57 is like waking up from that one dream that you never want to wake up from...
I remember getting killed a lot and playing this game was a challenge... Only till close to the end did I finally figure out all you had to do was look away and you wouldn't die 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣
This was incredibly interesting!!! Pretty awesome!!!
BEST GAME SOMA! Best story!
that ending left me speachless
I really liked this game
Damn, Cookies from black mirror all over again.
You are you but kind of not you at the same time.
aw man I hate it when people just keep killing themselves after I scan their mind and put them in a simulation. Not my problem tho.
I love the part after the credits
imagine a good ending of soma;
they actuallly tried reproducing and making their own food under there and stopped the wau, they survived long enough for the atmosphere to get safer and they populated Omega, and kept going and after a while it was safer and they started to populate the surface again
With your feet on the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and then spin it
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself
Where is my mind?
Turns out Simon is inside Far Cry 5, what a missed opportunity for the smoothest transition into another game
