    Yes yes! This particular drill eliminated the discomfort of the deep from within me. Randomly someone would throw a goggle and once it settled at the bottom we used to dive down and fetch it. Initially it was scary but repetitions turned it into a game.

      …and games are such a wonderful way to learn. Thanks for the comment Anurima.

    Coach Perry teaches swimming as it was meant to be taught to human beings over thousands of years as opposed to other coaches who teach what needs to be done as an olympic champion although you'll never need to be one to enjoy swimming...

    Please discuss how sinkers can come back up to the top from the deep end without kicking up from the floor! (Because it’s too deep). This is how I almost drowned :( I was in the middle of the pool couldn’t go up and wasn’t going all the way down. Love your videos!

      We will get there Melissa. I promise. We're walking these through the bulk of the sinkers curriculum and that step is a little further down the line, but we'll get there.

    I love these videos! I am on my 3rd week of swim lessons (I attend Mondays and Wednesdays). I feel the Thursday through Sunday gap, causes me to ‘lose what I’ve learned the week before. These videos allow me to work on my progress/drills during my off days. Thanks!

    I want to thank you! Your videos have made a difference in the way I am learning to swim. I graduated to intermediate and heading to the 15ft. I am a floater and still cannot get that dang on toy. Lol

      LOL Tonya. Thank you for the laugh (out loud literally) about the toy. SO glad to hear you continue to progress and I truly enjoy the updates. You've had such a great journey! Can't wait for the 'I got the dang toy!!' update :-).

    Okay, I fit into the floater type. Impossible to get to the bottom. I can swim free style. I tried to tuck my head - chin down to swim under the lane divider. I can't lower my head enough and propel with my arms to swim under the lane divider. Should I exhale slightly to swim under the divider ?
    Can you make a video about ?
    Thanks

      Hi Inaka. That's a GREAT idea. A video for super-floaters. I thinks that's worth some consideration. What our best floaters have to do initially to get under the lane lines is stand up (or go vertical if in the deep), push themselves up and drop into the water with a much momentum as possible beside the lane line, then push themselves sideways underwater to the other side. It takes some practice and timing. Good luck and thanks for the great idea.

      Thank you much for advice to floaters. Yes, turning sideways is essential for floaters. Strong Up and drop. I can try that.

    I'm fat, so I'm a hard core floater for now. 😁
    My jaw dropped when Bree went flat on the pool floor😲

      LOL. It's interesting how very different the experience in the water can be for sinkers and floaters. When we teach 'sinkers', we usually add some activities to give them a 'floaters' experience and vise versa. Both camps are similarly amazed, especially those on the far ends of the sinker/floater spectrum. Thanks for sharing.

    I guess this exercise will help you discover on how much of a sinker you are. Do you sink straight to the bottom or do you not. Are you able to reach just near the bottom or further up in the water. Kind of like knowing if you are a heavy sinker or a partial sinker. Just my thoughts. Thanks again for the videos.

    • @perrychristenberry1913
      @perrychristenberry1913 Год назад

      Exactly correct Twin Popsies! Then, we'll bulid on that by doing the same thing with full lungs vs. 'empty' lungs and watch the difference in the ability to sink (or not). The other nice thing it shows as people play with it is that the more of yourself you 'give to the water' (meaning the more surface area you lay horizontally in the water), the better you float. This is all building to not only see who's a sinker, but also to build an awareness of the things that we can do to maximize or minimize the effects of buoyancy. Thanks for the comment!

    Did the floater blow out all of her air before diving down?

    • @perrychristenberry1913
      @perrychristenberry1913 17 дней назад

      Hi @topseekrit. Patty didn't blow out all her air in this case because she can use gravity and the force of her pull to get down to the bottom. If she'd 'dumped her air', she could have gotten down even easier. There are ways for floaters, even really high floaters, to 'overpower' the water and get down deeper with practice. A few of our 'super-floaters' need weights to get down very far. :-)

    I have tried and tried and tried I couldn't pick the stuff in the bottom it's very hard for me to sink in 😭 I have very confidence breath when I swam

    • @perrychristenberry1913
      @perrychristenberry1913 17 дней назад +1

      lol. Well, there are certainly worse things than floating back to the top 😜. One of the reasons we do this exercise is because so many people walk into beginner classes thinking the easiest things to do is to get stuck at the bottom of the pool and the hardest thing to do is get to the top for breath. For most people, the opposite is true. We'll say with a smile and a wink, 'Awe, you can't get to the bottom. How sad for you. It will be so much harder for you to drown. Poor baby...' and we usually get a smile back as they understand the ramifications of floating back to the top without having to even work at it. BEST of luck to you on your swim journey!
