    I bought a 2006 S2k back in 2014, drove it for 2 years...i thought i got it out of my system, so i sold it (for 3k more than i paid for it) . I then proceeded to kick myself in the ass every day for 3 years, and I actually bought it BACK from the guy I sold it to! I'm never letting it go this time! By far the most fun car i've ever owned.

    I have an 02 and and 03. The 02 is my summer driver but has just 30K miles. It is close to bone stock. I paid $21K last year with OEM hardtop and 8.5K miles at the time. The 03 is a car to save for my retirement. It has an OEM hardtop and just 17K miles. It is 100% bone stock in nearly perfect condition. I just paid $22K. So, as you can see - we see things the same way. My plan now is to drive the 02 for about 4 more summers and then sell it and move into the 03. We shall see. I don't see myself wanting to move into a different summer fun car. I am absolutely in LOVE with the ap1 S2k.

    I agree 100%. I can't believe clean CRX's are fetching 5 figures. 92-95 Si are just starting to go back up in value. Any unmolested 80's-mid 90's honda is a good investment. I've been thinking of selling my 92 hatch because I never drive it, but hanging on for a bit longer, hoping the bottom has passed.

    Since your post is dated two years ago, I doubt if this is widely read. You are spot on if for only one reason. Historically, cars of the S2000 genre become classics due to the telatively short production run. Everything else regarding the S2000 speaks for itself...PERIOD! If I were a decade or two younger, my name would be on the title of one. Alas, at nearly 82 and with a vision problem, it's just not a practical venture.

    In the UK, the later models still had the 9,000 rpm redline, but benefited from all the AP2 improvements, 2005 seems like the best year as they were the last of the mechanical throttle cable cars, but had all the other 'AP2' improvements

    Couldn't agree with you more. Although prices for the Honda s2000 have already gone up, the ship has certainly not sailed as it has for cars such as the NSX, 997 GT3, etc. Another one to keep in mind is the s200 Club Racer, although it is certainly at a different price point. I hope you do not mind, but I have posted some links to my channel in another post with a buyer's guide I created using an AP1 Honda S2000. Look forward to your next investment car video. I initially subscribed to your channel when I came across your AP1 Review---I loved the energy and enthusiasm of that review!

      No worries man and thanks for the positive feedback. You're right, the CR is a real winner and definitely going to be a classic. Only reason I didn't bring it up in this review was because of what you mentioned, the price point. No doubt though it will be a collectible car in the future.

    Great video, 240s are getting pricy, supply and demand is all it is. Love them but the miles pile on and theres fewer and fewer on the road at the same time as more and more people want one. They're worth what people want to pay for one but I agree, there's other cars now that will surely get you more bang for your buck if youre not dead set on 240s. I would compare the 240 to what's going on in the NSX market, same type of deal

    • @CrimsonRequiem1

      Daniel Rogers it’s actually honestly annoying the prices people want for them but I understand now because supply and demand and there’s less on the the road as people are destroying them but there’s still original owners that still drive their 240sx

    Suzuka Blue AP1 for the win.
    Lower mileage cars are a huge premium so if you plan to drive it a lot you depreciate it fast.

  • @chrisgregson3626
    @chrisgregson3626 6 лет назад

    Absolutely right. We've had an S2k in the family for 4 years, put about 20,000 miles on it and it's holding it's value. Also just bought a DC5 Integra Type R which should be another safe bet for holding station value-wise. For me though, the main and best reason for buying either of those cars right now is that they're naturally aspirated, manual cars. Those two details have become the reserve of 6 figure sports/supercars on the new car market. For real-world money, you can't get NA sports cars any more (Mx-5 and GT86 notwithstanding). Point is, they're dying out. Buy now, before everything is electric/hybrid/turbo forever, and most importantly, enjoy your investment!

    Outside of North America one has the best opportunity as you get the AP1 facelift...all the features of the AP2 with all the fun of the F20C AP1 engine... I got my first s2000 new in 2000 in Toronto then my 2nd being the S2000 new in 2009 being the AP1 facelift in Cape Town South Africa and now a AP1 FACELIFT 2007 GT model which cones with OEM Hardtop..F20C so you are 100% correct..I will be back in Toronto in the next year with the dilemma of having to get an AP2 unfortunately

    I like this idea of investment car prediction videos. I bought my EVO 9 kind of thinking this way, hopefully with the EVO's being discontinued they begin to increase in value. The EVO isn't as affordable as the S2000 however I feel the car is a legend. Anyways I think your spot on with the S2000 being a future star.

    4 years ago I bought a red on black 2003 AP1. I live in Canada. This is a California car. Never winter driven. I paid $16,000 canadian. $13,000 US. Stock. 80,000 miles. When I bought it there were 6 for sale in Canada. 5 in salty East. The Dealer this summer had a trade in. same car. less miles. Asking $28,000 Canadian. The only mod I did was AP2 wheels. I've made maybe $8,000. There is no salt on the battery. I will keep it and drive the crap out of it. It's a Honda.

  • @dhj-i8g

    In April, I bought a 2003 AP1 from a middle-aged gentleman who was replacing it with a 911 - the car had been kept in immaculate condition. I thought I had paid a lot (24.5k Canadian), but a look at Autotrader is showing even pre-2003 AP1s at between 25,000+ (that's before Honda put in a glass rear window instead of plexiglas) - and the top 2003 AP1 was asking $37k CAD (white, on tan interior with only 27k km on it).
    I'm just having a hard time not putting more mileage on it.

    Foxbody mustang, getting harder and harder to find with so many people using them as drag cars and generation x wants to buy their high school dream car as they get older. right now they are pretty dirt cheap (can find a decent condition one for under $6000).

  • @nitrous36
    @nitrous36 6 лет назад

    I see the s2000 being collectible. The only thing holding it back is that its a niche car. It never gained the mass appeal of other more known cars such as the miata. A lot of people still dont know of the S2000. At a passing glance many probably think its a mazda. It wasnt popular starting out and then it never gained skyline/supra fame.
    50/50 chance its collectible. But only to a small crowd. The people that cant afford NSXs will probably look to civic and integra type Rs for rare collectible hondas.

  • @Dano-MX5
    @Dano-MX5 6 лет назад +3

    2 years ago I sold my '02 S2K for $3,000 more than I paid for it, after 3 years and 20,000 miles of ownership. It was my favorite of the 4 I have owned....an '03, '04, '06 and then the '02. I currently own an '08 MX-5 PRHT GT. Completely different car with a different mission. The S2K is a sleeper until you get into the VTEC, almost civic like. The MX-5 puts a smile on your face at any speed. It's like an eager little puppy that just wants to make you happy all the time, slow or fast. The S2K is more like a pit bull. Strong, stout, serious but oh so rewarding when you call on it to do its thing.
    And the truth is although at 66 the MX-5 fits me better and is easier to drive I am currently looking at selling it and buying an '07 bone stock S2K with 48k miles. I can hear the VTEC calling me once again.

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  6 лет назад

      I've considered an MX-5 so it's interesting to hear your perspective owning both.

    • @Dano-MX5
      @Dano-MX5 6 лет назад

      EatSleepDrive, one big advantage with the MX-5 is it's a great daily driver. Since there is a zillion of them on the road they will never be a collectors car like the S2000. My '02 S2000 was 10 years old when I bought it and only had 14,000 miles on it! I put 20,000 on it in 3 years just driving it during the summer months. Towards the end of each summer I would put the car in storage early because realizing low mileage S2000s bring a premium, I didn't want to add unnecessary miles to it. I don't worry about that with the MX-5. I bought it last spring and have put 9,000 miles on it and still have had it in storage since last November. It's just a hoot to drive because the power is so linear that you have the sensation of going fast yet you are still not breaking the speed limit. The S2k on the other hand is less engaging until you approach 6,000rpm. By then your a law breaker..lol! It truly is a 4 wheeled motorcycle...as Honda intended. One note: I'm 6', 220lb. and the NC is more comfortable to me than the new ND MX-5 and also the S2000. After 3 hours I was always ready to get out of the S2000s I owned. I seriously think I could do 8 hours in my Mazda. Less aggressive side bolsters on the seats and a little more side to side knee room. BUT....there is something special about an S2000. It truly feels like a hand crafted, single purpose sports car. For me, owning one has been an addiction.

    I prefer the AP2....and they're not all the same. For example, the 2005 is NOT drive by wire and has no traction or stability control. I prefer the gearing and extra low-end torque in the AP2. Also, it's not always the rarest color that is worth more. Sometimes, a certain car looks best in a particular color. People want a silver Gull Wing, a blue and white Cobra, a red Ferrari, etc. I lie the S2k in Silverstone with Red/Black.

    In regard to posts about 90's Hondas, my curiosity has been piqued. Don't laugh, PLEASE, but I have what might be close to a kind of a "one of a kind"...a '98 Civic 4-door EX in pristine condition, even with it's very easy 96K MILES. (THROUGH LAUGHING YET?) I bought it new in Dec., 1997...leather...factory alloys...aways daraged...all service records...everything works. NO rust...NO collosions . Yes, there has to be a better one.somewhere. ..I sure would like to see it. Would like to know if anyone could tell me how much I might expect to sell it for. Some locals have tossed numbers that sound almost absurdly high...to me, anyway. I'm certainly not going to GIVE it away and I don't really have to sell it; just don't need two cars anymore. Would appreciate a reply...other than giggles. Thanks!

      The S2k is also about power in the sense that it is power per litre with fast throttle response in an engine that revs to 9k, something you otherwise have to pay Porsche or Ferrari money for. From an investment point of view it's a very bad idea to sc or boost it. But from a performance point of view sure. But let's be clear that power is important for the s2k stock appeal, if it had an average motor like an mx5 nobody would talk about it. The stock f20c is an exceptional piece of engineering at the time inspired by f1 tech when Honda was actually winning F1 championships.

    • @robgerety
      @robgerety 6 лет назад +3

      Actually, I know several people who have gone the other way. For me, the car is a much more reliable and more powerful version of the old english roadsters of my youth. It is a lot more comfortable too. It is also an absolutely gorgeous car from my perspective. It is definitely NOT about raw power. I would never boost either of my S2ks. They are perfect just the way they are. Pure joy on the back roads where I live.
