I was waiting for this vid! Just paid my 18 limited rex off and got a bonus at work, have been debating on what direction to go in regards to head unit. I agree with you that doing a typical hu looks ugly with the huge bezels on the sides (like old androids/iPhones lol) I work at Best Buy so I can get the parts all discounted but this head unit fills the spot better, is plug and play vs having to hard wire some things going the other route, AND ends up being around the same price/cheaper. Thank you so much for putting the time in to review these couple things! Your STI is clean as hell too! Shoutout from Southern Oregon!

Apparently you can use the connection app to connect the phone to WiFi and then connect to Bluetooth and it should work?
Yes I heard that after the fact I got my carlinkit. Although I have yet to try it so I can’t confirm.

Yes sir. I never touch it and has been in the glovebox since I installed it.
That is great! I really dislike the wires and plugging in. Couple of questions if you dont mind, does it drain your phone bettery? Will this work with the 2019 starlink system (it connects to wifi but not sure about a web browser)?
I’ve only used it for a day, but battery didn’t seem to be drain any faster than normal. I would expect it to use just as much power as it would if you used Bluetooth. If you have CarPlay on the unit, then it should work with any headunit.

The unit is powered by it's own Ram so it wouldn't be any faster or slower than whats integrated into the unit.
So you have to upgrade the head unite no matter what so the stock oem head until won’t work
Hey man you might want to do a update video on this because I bought the idoing radio from your link when you did your review. I also bought this as well because I wanted wireless CarPlay. I’m guessing the newer units they include the capability to use wireless CarPlay and this isn’t needed. Luckily I was able to return this part through amazon. Love the vids tho! 👍
Yes I have gotten a few messages telling me this. My carlin kit has been working flawlessly so I didn’t bother to check if mine worked through the headunit. Even so, the adapter is still a great option for any car that wants wireless CarPlay. Thanks for the support!

Nice! I have an aftermarket double din head unit but am not sure if it has WiFi. Did you say you need to go to that URL from the head unit to download the app you connected to?
You can also do it on the computer and load it to a usb or sd card. If you notice the instructions have 3 methods. The one I used was method 1.
After you installed the carlink, can you use your phone internet without the hotspot on your IPhone?

Haha it shocked me when I got it first try to be honest. Yes. As long as you leave the application open, it connects immediately when you get in the car.

It’s built in. You go to steering wheel controls and assign the buttons to each function. Very easy.
I have carplay in my 2019 civic si, so will this work to have it wireless? I love having the apple carplay display i just hate plugging it in everytime i get in.

just put this on my headunit, however when I do connect, I have to connect to the dongle with bluetooth AND wi-fi for autokit to work. If i disconnect either one, it will take me back to the screen saying connect to phone. Also, when I have it running, its super pixalated, like 720p or worse. Theres no settings I see to change that. When I inserted the dongle and downloaded it, I also did the newest update as well, so everythings up to date. I may try a family members iphone next, and see if its just the android auto function thats being pixalated. (scratching my head). I may just end up buying the newer idoing headunit that comes with wireless, we'll see
Hello I have a question. Does this have audio delay between carplay and iphone ? My integrated carplay in my Àdroid Headunit have 2-3 seconds delay
Does that headunit allow you to access the cars internal settings, as well as play satellite radio?
The internal settings are located in the upper mfd unit. Everything else like the eq and such is located in then headunit. It does not have satellite radio.
Did you need to connect to wifi and Bluetooth? It says I need a password for the wifi?? It works with the wire but I can't seem to make it work wireless??

Yes idoing has updates every once in a while.
Yes. As long as you leave the application open, it’ll start right up as soon as you get in the car.

How did you get your two center vents black?? I was trying to figure out since it doesn’t seem that you can remove the grey border in the HU like you can the stock vents
I just wrapped them in gloss black vinyl. Pain to do but got the job done.

Google maps works with CarPlay. Whatever apps you use for android that works with CarPlay would work as well.

Your unit needs to be able to download apps to be able to use this device.

There is another adapter that you can purchase for an OEM headunit. This one is specific for aftermarket android units.

You need a headunit to support applications. All this does is it allows wireless streaming of CarPlay. It does not mirror your phone or provide the ability to download applications.

Yes.plugging this in doesn’t remove the usb. There is actually a usb on the other end of the cable of the Carlinkit so you can still use it for other things (charging pb be, radar, etc.).

This is a product that allows you to wirelessly play CarPlay. If you have CarPlay on your headunit, this allows it to play wirelessly.

I’ve got 2017 limited with stock speakers and have a 12” sub and amp that I’m waiting to put in until I get a head unit. How would this work and sound? Not a crazy amp or sub or anything
Not entirely sure. The stock headunit is the weakest point. Just putting an aftermarket headunit in will make the stock speakers sound pretty decent.

It’s a similar unit. Just a different style and interface.

It does not. The headunit comes with 2 usb cables that you can run into the same spot.

@@Scoobyfreak86 so im currently connecting wirelessly via an app called ZLink. Works fine even on iOS 14, but it maxes the volume and doesnt allow me to reduce it. Hence the sound quality is broken cause of the bass.
