I was waiting for this vid! Just paid my 18 limited rex off and got a bonus at work, have been debating on what direction to go in regards to head unit. I agree with you that doing a typical hu looks ugly with the huge bezels on the sides (like old androids/iPhones lol) I work at Best Buy so I can get the parts all discounted but this head unit fills the spot better, is plug and play vs having to hard wire some things going the other route, AND ends up being around the same price/cheaper. just put this on my headunit, however when I do connect, I have to connect to the dongle with bluetooth AND wi-fi for autokit to work. If i disconnect either one, it will take me back to the screen saying connect to phone. Also, when I have it running, its super pixalated, like 720p or worse. Theres no settings I see to change that. When I inserted the dongle and downloaded it, I also did the newest update as well, so everythings up to date. I may try a family members iphone next, and see if its just the android auto function thats being pixalated. (scratching my head). I may just end up buying the newer idoing headunit that comes with wireless, we'll see

I’ve only used it for a day, but battery didn’t seem to be drain any faster than normal. I would expect it to use just as much power as it would if you used Bluetooth. If you have CarPlay on the unit, then it should work with any headunit.

Haha it shocked me when I got it first try to be honest. Yes. As long as you leave the application open, it connects immediately when you get in the car.

I’m guessing the newer units they include the capability to use wireless CarPlay and this isn’t needed. Luckily I was able to return this part through amazon. Love the vids tho! 👍
Yes I have gotten a few messages telling me this. My carlin kit has been working flawlessly so I didn’t bother to check if mine worked through the headunit. Even so, the adapter is still a great option for any car that wants wireless CarPlay. Thanks for the support!

You need a headunit to support applications. All this does is it allows wireless streaming of CarPlay. It does not mirror your phone or provide the ability to download applications.

The internal settings are located in the upper mfd unit. Everything else like the eq and such is located in then headunit. It does not have satellite radio.

Yes.plugging this in doesn’t remove the usb. There is actually a usb on the other end of the cable of the Carlinkit so you can still use it for other things (charging pb be, radar, etc.).

The unit is powered by it's own Ram so it wouldn't be any faster or slower than whats integrated into the unit.

You can also do it on the computer and load it to a usb or sd card. If you notice the instructions have 3 methods. The one I used was method 1.

It’s built in. You go to steering wheel controls and assign the buttons to each function. Very easy.

Not entirely sure. The stock headunit is the weakest point. Just putting an aftermarket headunit in will make the stock speakers sound pretty decent.

Stock headunit does not have internet access and not able to download applications. There is one available for OEM units though.

It works with wrx or STI. They have fitment for other brands and vehicles as well.

Its seems super laggy. Maybe thats why you didnt played around with it so much?
It’s far from laggy. It’s incredibly quick and never never had any freezing or lag issues.
Were you able to hook up this new head unit to the factory installed mic in the car?
The unit comes with a mic you need to use.

When you were wiring it up did you see a mic cable behind the head-unit that you could have connected in somehow to the new head unit?
