    Great video - really helpful, my thermostat died on me (after 18 years and 203k miles, so yano), so this made the job much easier. Neat tip on draining the coolant through the fan sensor, too!

      Thanks for the positive comments! That's done you well really for 203k miles so yeah, about time for a new one haha! Glad it helped you out buddy

    Aye man good video, got to change my thermostat tomorrow as changing the temperature sensor didnt remedy the temperate gauge not moving (temperature sensor is actually at the back of the engine under the water pump, just about accessible by removing the 90 into the EGR valve ) the sensor at the front that you used as the drain is actually for the fan to turn it on and off

    If it's anything like the AVF the radiator drain is on the passenger (UK) side at the front of the radiator. You have to take the little passenger side bumper grille off. It's where the fog lights would be

    • @Enginesetc
      @Enginesetc  4 года назад

      Ahhh that explains it, cheers dude mega helpful! The irony is the other foglight cover thing has fallen off somewhere, if it was this side instead I would've noticed it 😂 much easier than getting a faceful of coolant

    • @EddieEducation

      Damn, I ended up with the faceful of coolant technique too! Should read the comments, that never fails, right? ;) seriously though, top knowledge - will use that next time

    Your always better taking off the hose, rather than than plug as it can be very brittle and break very easily,

    Are these coolant systems self bleeding. Is draining the coolant necessary?

    • @Enginesetc
      @Enginesetc  Год назад +1

      Basic bleeding is achieved by just leaving coolant expansion tank cap off and running car up to temp with heater on max heat and fan speed. It isnt necessary for thermostat but you lose a bit of coolant when doing so anyway and thought I'd take the opportunity to replace and refresh coolant whilst doing so for peace of mind :)

    You do know the reason for deionised water is to prevent all that gunk, all the impurities in the tap water cause issues, corrosion and blocking ect, and tap water has a different boiling point. Coolant has rust inhibiting abilities, but what’s the point if your using tap water 🤦‍♂️ also draining the coolant on the drive way is not good, very toxic for the wild life and particularly cats.

    • @Enginesetc
      @Enginesetc  16 дней назад

      You're right, de ioned water is best to use, however the coolant itself has properties that helps stop corrosion and gunk etc so if you're mixing tap water with an equal amount of coolant, it'll be fine. I've never had an issue and not really heard of any issues from it. If you were to use a heavily dilute coolant i.e. mostly tap water then yes, you may have issues you're right :) also I know, I was meant to get a bucket under it or something but as you can see it took me by surprise, nearly drowned myself so sadly it did spill. I rinsed it away with plenty of water to dilute it though so did what I could in the situation, I have 3 cats of my own so I didn't want any wildlife being harmed!
