- 5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel - yes that is the actual name of the game. We're skipping past 3D chess and 4D chess for the ultimate big brained game. Move your pieces back in time to create a diverging parallel timeline, then move your pieces into that. What could possibly go wrong?

5D Chess with Multiverse Time Travel is generalized from ordinary chess. There are two spatial dimensions, a third unused spatial dimension, a fourth dimension representing time, and a fifth dimension representing parallel timelines. When pieces travel to the past, paradoxes are avoided by using a branching timeline system. Capture a king to win!

Nope. You can say that you are 10 turns ahead though. But when it comes to parallel dimensions, you use forward or backward (or number the dimensions from whites point of view).

@@coryellis1877 just think of time travel/interreality travel as just like moving along another axis, such as going back one turn is like going horizontal and jumping to the next reality is going vertical, a bishop just happens to be able to do both at the same time.

AreaDenial just casually bring a queen to the past so you have two queens then go on for a few turns then bring another queen to the past in that timeline creating a new timeline where you have 3 of them. Then just fill the entire board with your queens then defend on the old timelines while attacking in the new ones.
You count the material in each timeline?

@@yimyam7615 For sure, but also from a tactical perspective it's what's called 2.5D. Meaning while it is technically 3D you can only move in two of the dimensions. This is true for nearly every board game.

The secret is to time travel so many times the enemy rage quits because there are too many parallel universes and each turn takes an eternity
Visuals definitely helped understanding that, but damn the sheer amount of moves and counters and possibility is insane. Speed chessing this would be near impossible.
It would probably be a race to open as many parallel universes as possible until someone accidentally checkmates.

The way it works i think is that each board is a tile
One to the right and 2 dimensional move, or vertical move.
If you use the vertical move, you can only move through time travel.
It's a chess board in a chess board. That's the best way I can think of it as.
one tile to the right and two chessboards back. you know, like all chess knights do
It moved two parallel dimensions "up" (relative to the game's interface) and one regular space to the right. So two in one direction, one in another, perfectly regular Knight move.
I think what's weirder than the knight doing that is that the bishop can move one to the left (or whatever) and one to the past/a parralel universe, putting it on a different colored tile

@@manuking9726 Our world has three spatial and one temporal dimension The game has two special, one temporal and the fourth is multiverses. Jim is talking about four spatial dimensions. They're all 4D.
Also, there are various renditions of chess with three spacial dimensions, though I haven't tried any myself.
To end that discussion, the game do uses third dimensional moves when pressing the "Views" buttons, revealing that the board its not 2D, instead its like a sheet of tin paper... So it's a 5D chess, the 3rd dimension is just visual...

This game is me attempting to mess with myself in the past and future just to tell myself what to eat earlier than what i prepared for.
This game is my type of game.
With branching timelines, you should be able to move pieces from past moves into the future as well, creating another branch where that piece does not exist in further moves. To do so, all intervening boards must mirror the parent timeline minus the time-wise forward moved piece, which may result in a game winning checkmate for either side.

I can definitely see an anime where after three moves the antagonist says "You are already checkmated" while pointing down to the protagonist in an extremely menacing fashion, followed by a monologue along the lines of "your next move will be rook to B3, then I'll send my knight back to the past to claim your pawn, giving you no choice but to follow up with your queen to sacrifice and allow my knight to move back to the past and take your current king!" 12 seconds of villainous laughing later and the protagonist moving in exactly the way the antagonist predicted while looking extremely worried, the protagonist's king is checkmated. The adventure begins.
