I met Neal a few years back in Big Sur and was blown away by just how nice a human being he was. He’s one of those people you meet and he actually listens and cares what you have to say, truly one of the nice guys in rock n roll.
@Taylor Matthias so you're going to check out this particular app to spy on a girlfriend and you have the same last name as the previous person who told you about it but you don't know each other?. Hehehe okay. ✌️
I know -- I was thinking the same thing. It just breaks the heart doesn't it? Music must have been a refuge. Some people can put on a gentle, easy persona in public and be dying inside.
Seeing Neil Casal and Chris Robinson being in a band together (having been a massive Black Crowes fan since the early nineties and loving Casal's work since 'The Sun Rises Here'), honestly feels like introducing two people that you know at a party and then seeing them become best-friends instantly.
RIP Neal. such a sad loss from the CRB to gigs with the dead and Bob weir & More😢😢😢 so many musicians and artists taking their lives by suicide 🙏💐🌷 August 26th 2019 yet the sad part is he showed no signs of suicidal tendencies prior. even had some interviews few months prior talking about new music *hopefully you could possibly update your description and added it to just mention Neal Casal tragically took his own life*
I really dig this series and while loving the tastes and selections of many of these artists, I could really appreciate a dose of more folks talking about the music that these two talk about....maybe get some more blues artists in the "what's in my bag?" series.....
'we bought records from people more antiquated than us!' lol! Love it! I'm going to pick up some Albert Collins right now because of this. Their musings on old people making their own non corporate beautiful music is spot on.
Townes' "Nashville Sessions" album is culled from an acetate of a never released album called "7 Come 11." It was obviously recorded in Nashville at Cowboy Jack Clement's studio in 1973, but after Townes' manager Kevin Eggers failed to pay for the sessions, Jack erased the tapes. Luckily John Lomax III had managed to squirrel away an acetate and saved this essential TVZ recording.
thanks for the intro to so many great artists I had never heard of. I was in a band that opened for Chris at the 40 watt when he was in Mr. Crowes Garden a million years ago. great record recommendations.
More folks like this! Tedeschi Trucks, Widespread Panic, bands that also have similar roots in pure American music like the blues, soul, and some jazz. Would love to see their picks.
Amoeba is the only music store I've seen, that's more like the record stores we had back in the day! I wish I lived in LA instead of NC! I seen the black crowes in Raleigh in 2013! I have a video of it on my channel!
GREETINGS TO THE GREAT STATE OF ARKANSAS GOOD TO SEE THIS KNOW THE ROBINSON BROTHERS WE ARE NOT OLD BEING IN THE 50S 60S 70S IS NOT OLD GREAT TO SEE THIS VERY INTERESTING INFORMATION GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS 🙏 YOU AND RICH STILL LOOK GORGEOUS THE WHOLE BAND STILL DOES
Right!...I buy cds. (5 for a dollar) and I found so many weird and complexity bands and artists, I heard so many genres and styles that amazed me every week. I have to start just watching the cover, artwork and reading the track list and guessing where might came from, some of them are crafted bands and artists that might not get the respect and fame they deserved but it makes me open my mind and go everywhere else in time/space just with one chord/lyric. Well, Madonna, should listen what Chris say about getting older. Make a great day!
Really loved Neal Casal's album Roots & Wings. I discovered him when he played for Ryan Adams. Really bummed to hear about his untimely death a few years back.
ProJECT much? I took this as an extremely humble and deflective thing of him to say. Your comment seems to lack compassion and steeped in judgment. I hope you have a better day. Peace
After seeing a few of these I don’t think it’s about artists these other artists like. It’s, “I’m going to pick the record that is THE most obscure that I know not a soul other then me has even heard of.” Not Albert Collins of course.
Edward Rivera please, the dude with the long hair? It's Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes. He should've been a novelist, but he said they don't get to sleep with the women they want to sleep with. Just watch The Black Crowes behind the music episode.
The word "underrated" is plastered all over you tube, and really in an innacurrate way, as folks are professing their love for musicians when using it, even though the artists themselves are often quite popular and successful. People using the word are simply attempting to express just how much they like a certain musician ......all that said, Judy Sill REALLY is grossly underrated! Gorgeous voice and wise lyrics-shes the real deal!
Love the those dudes! Even though there is some strange stuff going on with siblings and so on, I still love Chris to death. Hell I love both Robinson brothers.. They made my youth. And Neal? He was in The Cardinals man!!
Hey Amoeba! I have some really obscure, great albums. Should I email you? I want to come in with a list I’ve been making, and get a bunch of LP’s. Do you sell needle replacements for turn tables? Thanks!
Hi Angela! If you are looking to trade in those obscure albums you mentioned, you can just bring them in to the trade counter of the store nearest you. You don't need to make an appointment. If you have a large collection of 500+ CDs or LPs, we could potentially come to you. More info about selling/trading stuff to us can be found here: www.amoeba.com/our-stores/buy-sell-trade/ As far as needle replacements, it varies by store but generally we only carry them for the model of turntables we have.
This is probably my favorite “Whats in my Bag?” ever. So much knowledge and utter appreciation for music of the past and present. These guys rawk!
I agree -- wonderful discussion and makes me miss hearing from Neal.
So much love for the Chris Robinson Brotherhood their music changed my life it’s so sad that Neal is now gone
I met Neal a few years back in Big Sur and was blown away by just how nice a human being he was. He’s one of those people you meet and he actually listens and cares what you have to say, truly one of the nice guys in rock n roll.
matthew roberts I've always loved Chris and Rich.
Do you live in the Big Sur area? I live in monterey, i wish i had run into either of them around here
it's so sad that he took his own life at the end of August of 2019 nobody seems to know why either it seems like that's the shocking part
Nice guys finish dead.
RIP Neal.
Seeing Neal smiling & happy like this breaks my heart. I wish we would have known what was going on inside his head. Maybe we could have saved him.
Likely he was happy here. Dark places in the mind often come and go.
None of us were ready for him to go that soon.
Some people can put on a gentle, easy persona in public and be dying inside.
unfortunatley only people can save themselves
Nobody leaves this place without singin' the blues
A tv show about musicians buying records and talking about them. Genius.
Seeing Neil Casal and Chris Robinson being in a band together (having been a massive Black Crowes fan since the early nineties and loving Casal's work since 'The Sun Rises Here'), honestly feels like introducing two people that you know at a party and then seeing them become best-friends instantly.
mtemps 79 it’s very much the same with me and Widespread Panic with Jimmy Herring. RIP Mikey.
Neil was such a tasteful player. I’ll never forget how many people during fare thee well were talking about how awesome set break music was.
RIP Neal. such a sad loss from the CRB to gigs with the dead and Bob weir & More😢😢😢
so many musicians and artists taking their lives by suicide

Rest in peace Neal 🙏
LOVE these Amoeba "What's in my Bag?" vids, this one I actually took notes!! I'm gonna check out some of these LPs. Thanks guys!!
I really dig this series and while loving the tastes and selections of many of these artists, I could really appreciate a dose of more folks talking about the music that these two talk about....maybe get some more blues artists in the "what's in my bag?" series.....
slow day Enzo?
Enzo Ferrari uneducated
'we bought records from people more antiquated than us!' lol! Love it! I'm going to pick up some Albert Collins right now because of this. Their musings on old people making their own non corporate beautiful music is spot on.
I absolutely LOVE this commentary. Have I told you lately how much I LOVE you, Robinson Brothers?
Townes' "Nashville Sessions" album is culled from an acetate of a never released album called "7 Come 11." It was obviously recorded in Nashville at Cowboy Jack Clement's studio in 1973, but after Townes' manager Kevin Eggers failed to pay for the sessions, Jack erased the tapes. I have the same taste! Love folk and blues as well as all those artists.
Great records. Always good to learn about new (all be it old) artists
Awfully sad watching this years later. RIP. x
i love Judee Sill, she's such a beautiful voice, like a poet singing , but unfortunately no longer with us
Glad to see some appreciation for Townes
thanks for the intro to so many great artists I had never heard of. I was in a band that opened for Chris at the 40 watt when he was in Mr. Crowes Garden a million years ago. great record recommendations.
RIP Neal
omg you two are so awesome Chris always looking good .
Neal the same love the video .hope to see alot more of your two handsome men
Seen Neal on his last CRB Concert in Munich in 2019... RIP
Rest in peace Neal... :(
Still can't believe it.. so sad.
😪
Wait what? When did this happen?
@@Flux799 Right about when I wrote the comment. So sad. It is believed to have been a suicide
Victor Samaniego that’s terrible. I had no idea.
I love John Renbourn . Thanks for the suggestion .
More folks like this! Tedeschi Trucks, Widespread Panic, bands that also have similar roots in pure American music like the blues, soul, and some jazz. Would love to see their picks.
Agreed! You see Dave Schools record shopping in Austin on that live 2003 DVD? I learned about Bill Hicks from him on that feature. Cool stuff...
Love Chris so much ✊🏻
Everyone is getting hip to the Judee Sill these days. Glad to see she is finally getting her due
She's the new Karen Dalton.......
" Weed...That's what's in my bag... Weed ... " lol Great episode :)
brandname6 or if Ed was still alive from the Crowes...drugs, that's what's in my bag, drugs. RIP Weird Ed, we sure miss your keyboards.
That and a pair of testicles.
The best thing about this was when he described Collins play a Les Paul, rare as hen's teeth!
RIP Neal Casal. I hope you found Magnolia Mountain.
Bukka White, Albert Collins, a nod to the ISB? Very good taste indeed!
Monty Cantsin you’ve never heard of either of them u bastard!
Judee Sill, now there is a songwriter!! Two albums, and a collection of demos. All wonderful!!
What a great selection, really enjoyable to watch.
Amoeba is the only music store I've seen, that's more like the record stores we had back in the day! I wish I lived in LA instead of NC! I seen the black crowes in Raleigh in 2013! I have a video of it on my channel!
LA sucks. NC is much better.
I'm right with you. Should've went to LA in 1983 when I had the chance. I despise being in NC.
Everyone else is moving here, so why can't you 😉
GREETINGS TO THE GREAT STATE OF ARKANSAS GOOD TO SEE THIS KNOW THE ROBINSON BROTHERS WE ARE NOT OLD BEING IN THE 50S 60S 70S IS NOT OLD GREAT TO SEE THIS VERY INTERESTING INFORMATION GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS 🙏 YOU AND RICH STILL LOOK GORGEOUS THE WHOLE BAND STILL DOES
miss ya, Neal. 🤟
These 2 are awesome!!!
I love seeing musicians dedicated to one particular instrument like Wizz Jones and that Epiphone.
Interesting "episode", much information and Chris seems very relaxed
Right!...I buy cds. (5 for a dollar) and I found so many weird and complexity bands and artists, I heard so many genres and styles that amazed me every week. Judee Sill. What a great discovery here ❤️
RIP Neal Casal
Such a special and amazing video.
I really enjoyed this..their choice and comments resonate deep..thanks guys
Really loved Neal Casal's album Roots & Wings. I discovered him when he played for Ryan Adams. Really bummed to hear about his untimely death a few years back.
Was Neil Young referencing Judee Sill in the song After The Gold Rush?
Chris ‘I was in the Black Crowes’ Robinson
Great guys great picks and choice points
This was worth watching. Thanks.
Damn... Neal why??
Awesome thanks 👍
I was hoping they would pull out a aphex twin record out of nowhere.
I was thinking one of them might have a Rudimentary Peni record
Was just watching aphex twin before heading here.."window licker"
Windowlicker!! Or maybe play a 12" disc of 120 grit sandpaper for old times sake!!
"I was in a band called The Black Crowes"
heartbreaking
Kind of a douchey thing to say.
ProJECT much? I took this as an extremely humble and deflective thing of him to say. Your comment seems to lack compassion and steeped in judgment. I hope you have a better day. Peace
woulda never known unless he said
He's become a gene simmons
I'm a huge Black Crowes fan so this is awesome
My favorite episode
Excellent choices.
gosh I still have such a crush on Chris. 😊
two of the nicest most musical guys in the game
After seeing a few of these I don’t think it’s about artists these other artists like. It’s, “I’m going to pick the record that is THE most obscure that I know not a soul other then me has even heard of.” Not Albert Collins of course.
Yeah, ever see Exile On Main St. Or Station To Station Or Rock n Roll Animal Or...
Chris Robinson ultimate hippie bluesy dream man!
Rest in Peace Neal, we miss ya brother
Thank you for judee sill information Chris!
I like the way the dude with long hair speaks, pretty well spoken.
Edward Rivera please, the dude with the long hair? It's Chris Robinson from The Black Crowes. He should've been a novelist, but he said they don't get to sleep with the women they want to sleep with.
Just watch The Black Crowes behind the music episode.
Roxanne Moser
i believe he was being sarcastic...
@@roxannemoser2725 lol I have to watch that and pay attention to hear that!
Weird, I was just listening to Lady O by Judee Sill and this was recommended to me.
Now we need Phish, Ween, Widespread Panic, Umphrey's McGee and The Disco Biscuits :-)
TheGrandAstoria PREACH!!!!
anyone know what that cool acoustic sitary sounding song over the end credits is? is it CRB? its cool
Sad that Neal is gone.
Knew these guys wouldn't disappoint
These are REAL music fans
Need to add Neal’s name to this header.
Great lesson!
As the Crow Flies
WhiteStripe333 sometimes when I use the GPS on my phone and verbally tell it the destination, it says those very words. Seriously.
Chris should have went in depth about the record he was holding at 0:21. Once and Future Band, amazing band/debut album
Love is in the air, be on your guard don't let it catch you unaware...
they sound like Yes
I picked up the reissued EP when I saw them in Glasgow. Wish I could see them at Freaks in Big Sur.
Such a great singer, but so much better with his brother Rich.
Oops, misspelled Miss Sills first name - it's Judee. Check her out - awesome talent!
Neither bought the "once and future band" record??
*What's the song name in the outro from **8:34** ? Somebody plsss...* 🙏
Glow - The Chris Robinson Brotherhood
@@daneryan1879 Thanks a lott ! 🤗
Can someone please tell me what song is playing when the dude with glasses is talking about Joint Control?
3 songs from 'Joint Control' are used under that segment:
"Fresh As A Sweet Sunday Morning," "Joint Control," and "Balham Moon."
Thanks!!
Love you guys & I seriously need to get to this record store.
There’s a great one in Cheltenham,England called The Vinyl vault..recommended.

What's the song that plays in the end?
Very very cool

I got most of the way through this before I realized that wasn't David Cross

Fack! What is the outro music? Is that a slide sounding like a Sitar?
Say.what you want about Chris but he knows music
awesome
What was the outro song ?
Love the those dudes! Even though there is some strange stuff going on with siblings and so on, I still love Chris to death. Hell I love both Robinson brothers.. They made my youth. And Neal? He was in The Cardinals man!!
