  • Whether the livery is DB Schenker, EWS, Arriva or even the Royal Train, the Class 67 by Hornby does not disappoint. Easily one of the finest examples of a modern image diesel electric in OO gauge that money can buy!
    A must say a MASSIVE THANKS to Gareth Peate for the loan of this stunning model. Please check out his links...

    Lovely video, Will - I'm so glad you liked it! I don't know why, but Arriva Trains Wales didn't ever apply the livery that their 57s had to their 67s when they replaced them - they just left them in blue, which is a bit plain.

    Wow, I can't believe there are only 30 of these, that's crazy! You see them all the time up north, and we see them all the time down here too - for 30 locos, they certainly seem to get about!

    I have the Wrexham & Shropshire Class 67 and also the W&S Mk3 DVT, I just don't have any W&S Mk3 coaches so my consist looks a little odd, however I think odd pretty much sums up my loco collection anyway ;)

    • @gawuffy
      @gawuffy 9 лет назад +1

      Moleman978 I think Hornby have discontinued the W&S mk3s now, so it might be worth picking up a couple if you wanted any - you'd only need three for a set, though nobody produces the first/buffet so maybe you'd need four :)

    Fun fact, the Class 67's were originally designed to be Co-Co units, but at the time they couldn't get 3 axle bogies that could also provide 125 MPH running, so they went with lighter Bo-Bo bogies instead of the route availability.

    Great Review! It would be cool if maybe you reviewed some Bachmann Junior Locomotives and maybe even Set, For example the Digital Starter Set That Came with an 0-6-0T That re used the same moulding as the US HO Thomas and A 0-4-0 That Had Percy's Molding if you can get a hand on those, i'm pretty sure they are on eHattons. I Would love to see a review on those engines, especially since they are both DCC.

    Great review as always!! I am always waiting for new videos from you, I love them.
    This unboxing is special for me because I live 30 kilometers far from the factory where class 67 were built. About that "strange" combination of nacionalities I can add some information. The Alstom factory in Valencia, now Vossloh España and formerly Macosa, has been building EMD locomotives since 1962, first models under license and since GEC Alsthom (hey, something British) took the factory, were developed new locomotives (Prima range) using EMD engines and electrics. These locomotives developed in Spain are exported to countries such Israel, Egypt, U.K. or reciently South Africa. The new class 68 also come from the same factory and is the Vossloh Eurolight model but in this case there is not EMD technology, instead of the 2 stroke 710 engine there is a Caterpillar 4 stroke engine and ABB electrics. Nowadays, Vossloh is not interested on building rolling stock and wants to sell this factory.
    Best whishes from an N gauge Spanish fan!!

    Great review will. I would recommend adding one to the shopping list along with a Class 60 from Hornby as they are fantastic models. I reviewed this one back in 2013 and I have added the detail to the front end as well as I have painted the buffers into Revell USAF grey. I have added a driver to my model of 67018 to give it more realism. Tell Gareth from me that he has an impressive Class 67 fleet.
    Best Regards

    Why did this get a review before it appeared in a mailbox video yet the stuff people sent in months ago mostly hasn't appeared on any videos since the mailbox they appeared in? I've not sent anything in but it does seem a bit unfair to those who sent stuff in way back in January/February such as the Bachmann B1 and the Lima Class 33 and Lima Class 50 to still be waiting for a video of some sorts on it and yet this got a video on it instantly.

      jackstar275 Almost - they have two sets (though only one has a first class / buffet) - both start from Holyhead, and one runs to Cardiff each morning and returns in the evening, where the other operates a shuttle service to Manchester (via Chester and Crewe) and back :)

    • @Aircmdr

      +jackstar275 It's only four coaches usually - the buffet and first class are contained in the same car (there's no additional first class accommodation). This is strengthened with an additional couple of standard class mk3s occasionally though, when the train is used on football or rugby fan specials to Cardiff or Wembley.

      jackstar275 They have 67003 too, though I believe that has some mechanical issues which means it rarely sees service. W&S had similar issues with 67010 which is why it was never named (it was due to be named Charles Darwin, but wasn't operational for long enough to have the plates fitted).

      It actually also has to do with the fact that he married into the family. Also the tile of King is considered to be above that of Queen and since Queen Elizabeth is the ranking Monarch because of the line of succession . The Duke of Edinburgh is officially the Prince Consort to her Majesty the Queen.

    Chiltern don't have 67s any more...

    • @gawuffy
      @gawuffy 9 лет назад

      ***** Yep, they've finally ditched them for 68s - they've had their nameplates removed too, and the rumours are that at least some of them will go to ATW to strengthen their loco-hauled services. Exciting times!

    • @RBXTrains
      @RBXTrains 9 лет назад

      Do Arriva need that many class 67s?!? They only use them for 2 services a day! I'm waiting (if ever) for Hornby to make a Chiltern set before getting a class 67 (Guess they might not as the doors are plug doors and I don't know if Hornby have the moulding for that already!)! (Don't fancy doing a re-brand from W&S on an £100+ model!)

    • @gawuffy
      @gawuffy 9 лет назад

      ***** I doubt Hornby would do a Chiltern set - the doors on their mk3s are different, and W&S substantially altered their first/buffet (which Chiltern now use as their Business Zone) so Hornby can't model that unless they change their tooling - which I can't see happening as there are only five coaches in this style.
      When Chiltern took W&S stock they only removed the company logo, so you could probably remove those decals to debrand a 67/DVT set. The coaches would be more fiddly though. They did run for a time with Chiltern's extra blue stripes, and kept the slam doors - maybe you could model that period? ;)

      +RBXTrains There's two sets for ATW at the moment, one being the 'WAG' set whereas the other is the 'Manchester' set. The 'WAG' set operates twice daily Monday-Friday while the 'Manchester' set operates around five times a day Monday to Friday and several times on Saturdays during summer time. The skips for these duties normally stay on them for around a month before being replaced with another skip, presumably provided by Crewe T.M.D or another DBS depot.

      Gareth On Wikipedia (So don't know how reliable it is) it says "To operate beyond January 2020, Mark 3s need to be fitted with controlled emission tanks and plug automatic doors." So maybe there is a chance for some in a few years time when more TOCs have done it and it becomes financially viable for Hornby to do it ;)

      I didn't realise ATW had more than one 67 set! I only knew about the premier Holyhead-Cardiff service. Still doesn't explain why they would need more. Do they have first class on the Manchester service?

      There's a British boss in the office where I work (New York City), and he's always chewing the Americans out for poor spelling and grammar mistakes like this. I should show him this video. Unfortunately, he's not a railfan and would probably laugh at me for suggesting it. He'd rather spend all his free time at his local rather than doing something fun like model railroading.

    Hornby made a mistake ! This is not a CO-CO as mentioned on the instructions folder but it's a BO-BO !!!
    And Finally, shame on that society for stoling the canadian maple leaf and the logo DB of the german railways.... Sorry, it's really confusing...
    And..... Come on Hornby, we are in 2015, please stop producing those ugly vintage couplings...... For sure, Bachmann and Heljan are a few steps ahead...
