These round rugs were originally woven using the old metal wagon wheel circle. It was wrapped with padding and fabric strips that you could pin your warp strips to
I do not know why a weaving video came thru, but I am truly happy it did. I am crafty in so many ways. I sew quilts and dresses so of course I immediately have on hand supplies ready to make this. Will be doing this as soon as I get over this cold I have. Thank you
Great job I have that big hoop and have never used it. You cracked me up.. use a lid, a plate, a cap!!! That's exactly how I create things but for some reason these young kids need a specific "tool" for everything. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
You are so welcome! I have read you other words of encouragement on the other videos, I think we need to be friends!! No chance you live in Arizona?! 😃 I truly appreciate your comments, I am having a ton of fun making the videos and trying new projects! Thanks again!
Thank you !!! You do such a fantastic job with showing the steps of your weaving projects!!! I just found your channel because I couldn't sleep! I have always wanted to weave and this is a process and project I can do. I always thought it would involve a very fancy and very ,very expensive loom, that I could maybe rent for a few weeks, at 1,000+$ per week, or something like that, along with all types of high cost yards c and fabrics & other items for creating a rug, etcetera. I am thrilled and so excited to start! I just hope whoever ( your husband?) that maked your handmade loom, the one you used to make the one with greens, white, yellow, some with blue, the square "rag rug" for your powder room. I hope my husband is going to be happy to spend his Sunday afternoon watching how to build it, then making me one! I have so many fabric scraps and I don't know if I can wait until morning to start ripping the strips!!!!🥳 I hope you continue making these videos. You have a gift for teaching your craft, as well as your great talent at it. Be well and happy, Audri
I was thinking the same thing... i'm thinking maybe make the joined strips like she has shown us and just crochet the whole darn thing! lol! I think they make a huge crochet hook I've seen at Michaels that could be used. It would be no-sew too. This is very beautiful though!
I have been doing my own experiments with circular weaving. Preparation is key. Your video was so thoughtful and thorough. You did the work and shared the analysis and lessons of circular weaving on a removable loom/loop so generously. 😊 thank you.
Oh my goodness! I am so impressed with your knowledge and creativity! Thank you for sharing this ingenious pattern and method. I'm looking forward to trying this!
I have not made one but many years ago I saw one made using a hula hoop using old tshirts. I am sure yours will be beautiful. Your color choice is perfect.
I can see for the center circle making a yo yo out of fabric with a cloth button at its middle in a contrasting color and using fusible webbing to iron it in place. Am saving this video am looking forward to trying this, thank you.
Thank you so much for not being ashamed of talking about a good foundation :) in scripture. I really like your videos as well. Just getting into weaving.
I have a huge iron rim off of an antique farm wagon wheel for a loom. I'm eager to try weaving doing this by your method! This is entirely different than any instructions I've ever seen. This actually looks much more do able!! Thank you. Blessings!
@@DIYOnTheHouse the rim is 48" in diameter-BIG! In order to do it like you did, I'll need to make the base enough larger to be able to tie it to the rim. It's going to be interesting. Your weaving technique is 'twining' where all my patterns are 'simple' one strand weaving. So I'm eager to do this!! Bet this will use up a LOT of fabric scraps!! ☺ Thank you, I've subscribed to your channel & am totally excited about your videos.
@@merryanneadair4451 we just got the old round frame that my Aunts and Uncles used to make rugs. I kinda remember them making 2 1/2” strips and rolling them into balls. I’ll ask my cousins for advice. It will be a great winter project!
@@daisyanddawn after my grandfather retired he built a 2 harness rug loom & wove rugs for anyone who would bring fabric, old clothes & rags to weave with. Your finished rug and the prototype are both gorgeous colors! I think on the one you finished, I would sew the edge like you did but then add a bias binding to make it look neat and tidy. It's such a nice rug I think it deserves it. Thanks, I hope I can try this sometime.
Great tutorial thank you. I was wondering about pinning and tucking the edge like you did but, avoiding the sewing machine all together and using a strip of rag and the existing slits to do a simple whip stitch to complete the edge. Would love to know what you, or others, think.
Hi ... I really enjoyed this video, and you have encouraged me to try it for myself. But what is the "shelf liner" ?... Is it some kind of anti-slip material?.... Also, how is it attached? Thanks in advance... Greetings from Glasgow, Scotland... Simon.
Love your videos!!! Thank you for sharing. Easy to follow. Just an idea for your prototype rug...how about making it a pillow or wall hanging or hanging lamp with long fabric sides?
Can you share where to purchase the square box type of loom,or if your husband could sell a PFD of the square loom box like the one you used to make the white green & yellow rug. Thank you for sharing us how to make this beautiful rug!keep up the great work. ♥️
Ross has made all of our looms - here is a playlist of the weaving projects bit.ly/weaving_playlist - I am very fortunate that Ross can make these, it feeds my obsession!!
I've looked everywhere for a loop as big as yours, with no luck at all. Do you know how I could get one. I loved your round rug and really want to try one. Take care. Elaine. x
I made a template on cardboard with several circles of different measurements. This I use with every round rug or wall hanging, if I want to have a perfect center. Zjen I warp with thread. And in the end I add the backing.
I thought about that - but was stuck on how you would remove it from the hoop. I guess you could cut the loop. Also didn't know how much they flex. If you try it, let me know.
I was wondering about using a hula hoop as well but, wondered if it would be too flexible. Some hula hoops have a small length of plastic as a joiner, (l have one l threaded a shower curtain on to use as a camping privacy screen). It may be possible to pull one apart, cut a segment out of one end, rejoin it and make a sort of diy embroidery hoop. That would make it more rigid but I'm not sure if it would be rigid enough.
Lovely rug. I would finish the edge with a binding made from matching fabric and then try to find a way of filling in the centre. Maybe some more of the fabric used to weave the rug rather than seeing the backing. Just me and my OCD!
Please if allowed can I ask what are the materials of making rugs like what the name of the ruller you use the cloth cutter you use and everything thank you
I would suggest using a sunburst pattern for "embroidering" the center with a wool needle pulling more scrap lengths through to cover the hole in the center, the same needle and scrap fabric could be used to bind the outer edge, as well. Pony makes good plastic needles for this with huge flexible eyes.

Have you thought about tacking a 'Yo-Yo' fabric circle in the middle? And is there a way the outside edge can be used to completely finish the rug? Since there is so much fabric at the edge, you might be able to loosely 'French Braid' or twine the finished edge to match the style of the rest of the rug weaving.
On the prototype: lay it in the bathtub and soak it with water. Take it out and lay flat on a couple of towels to absorb with water that will catch the drip. Then after a few hours move it to a warm place -- possibly outside in the sun. once it is fairly dry which may take a day or two place a large piece of plastic/garbage bag on top and then----place some weights on it such as books. This may do the trick.
It also depends on the fabric. If you're using old sheets that have been washed in hot water it's probably not necessary, but curtains and clothing probably ought to be washed in hot water to ensure no further shrinkage will take place when washing the rug.
That looks great but what happens when you wash it? Just an idea.... Could you weave it with a pencil on top of each slit to make sure it’s loose when you’re done?
