Your description of the winter time off shore wind surfing is spot on. I grew up in Pensacola and went to a high school that was near a plant with a smoke stack. I would keep my eye on the stack and the moment the wind shifted from the north, I would get to the beach as quick as possible. That was 50 years ago, some things never change.
Right on. Thanks bro! Yeah that’s my top video of all time. Over 10,000 views now. Last time I talked to Ben Gravy at Foam Wreckers he even said that “Bombs for Breakfast” video of mine always pops up on peoples feeds that he sees. Had to laugh at that. Miss surfing the pier for sure. Hopefully it’ll come back soon…
Whoa! I got there too late! I was surfing the inside. The outside wasn't working when I was there later that morning. I sure would like to have caught that big wave that the paddle boarder caught. Thanks for the vid!
I live and surf in Corpus Christi Tx. We have a lot of wind swell but typically disorganized with short intervals . Like anywhere, we occasionally have our good days after cold fronts or tropical weather but other than that it is mostly wind chop. My question is how consistent is the surf in this area of FL. We are trying to plan a little vacation but don’t really like airline prices right now or covid tests so my wife is pushing Destin real hard. I know it’s nice and I can fish and stuff but I really want to score some waves. Do I have any chance of standing up during July? I know it can rock with a hurricane but u can’t plan for that. Is it flat that time of year without a storm. Just looking for some info. Thanks
Glad to see that south finally get kickin for yall. Been so many north wind days this passed couple of months. Good for here in TB but a bummer for the Panhandle. Hopefully those big spring warm up south winds start to blow by the Yucatan Channel and just sits there pumping south/southeast wind as a stalled out front over the northern gulf keeps the winds light and variable. Sure hope that's the case. We get some good south refraction swell that bends in when that happens and it goes off up there. I'm going to destin in June for 4 days. Hoping it's during an active period and I get to ride those emerald coast swells that are marching elephants on the horizon down here.. Glad you got it good. Hopefully more to come but current forecast no bueno.
Haha cool way to look at it. Never thought of it that way. But as far as the views go, this is by far my most viewed video. 16K and still going….Thanks for checking it out. Stay stoked 😎🤙🏼
I lived in Cinco Bayou (FWB) in the 80s. Nobody surfed in the cold months, we’d just surf choppy summer and early fall storms. Burned down house near the officers club was the spot. I don’t recall ever seeing anyone with a paddle. My how things have changed.
Yeah I started surfing FWB in about 1985 and it has definitely changed a lot since then. After Hurricane Opal in ‘95 NCO and Officers club got shut down to the public. Colonel’s near NCO still goes off on the right swell. I think that’s the burned down house your referring too. Anyway, thanks for watching 😎🤙🏼
@@Surferjoefwb Its likely we surfed near each other. I went to school at FWB HS class of 87. Neat story: I was fishing off of the Okaloosa pier one day and there was some guys surfing on the east side of the pier. A huge hammerhead came around and and was circling under them. We started yelling bro those guys to get out. I wonder if that happens much anymore there.
@@estebanmiguel6019 actually there’s been record numbers of tiger sharks at the pier and Destin Pass the last couple summers. But they don’t seem to bothers anyone. It’s actually a sign of a healthy ecosystem. Go figure 🤣
i just moved to Ormond beach this week and the thing they DONT tell you about Florida is how freakin COLD it is. Everyone wearing booties. Its 55 Degrees tonight (October 22, 2022). I dont have a sweatshirt and I havent seen a single bug yet

Looking at a map I see you have a rather narrow swell window. I guess you have to be ready to drop everything and go when the opportunity is there. I know just how that is.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head. Thankfully with todays surf forecasting apps we can plan ahead about 5 days. I remember before the internet having a Radio Shack weather radio. That combined with Weather Channel local on the 8’s we could get maybe a 2 day warning. Thanks for watching 😎🤙🏼
