Stu Martin was a BEAST! THANK YOU for this rare find. The white Trio album is one of my desert isle albums along with Mountainscapes (same trio with Barre Phillips as the leader)
Same thing with me, I heard his name less than a week ago, scrolling through the jazz channels on line. There are so many great jazz musicians, with so little exposure, it's a shame!
Stu Martin! This was terrific. I'd love to see and hear more. Thank you for sharing this great footage.
This is why I've loved RUclips over the years.
Me too!!
Great to see footage of The Trio from this period… Thanks again Jay!
in 1968 I saw Stu Martin for the first time. He's one reason for me to play Drums. Thanks for the Video
thank you very much for uploading this rare recording with The Trio!

I remember seeing young Surman in various forms of the Westbrook sextet. He was one of the best saxophonists in the band.
And in Marching Song and his own How Many Clouds.. brilliant
Fantastic! Barre, my teacher around improvised music! How many stages!

Oh yes!!!
And "Green Walnut" is the killer!
FANTASTIC!!!
So happy to see my mentor, Stu Martin, shredding in the way that only he could. I miss him so much.
Thanks
"Extrapolation" with Surman and John McLaughlin is one of my favorite albums
Sooo great - my favorite trio of all times.
From 29 - 35 = "Green Walnut", their killer track from their first album.
Lovely!
Remember the double album way back - got the cd now
This isn't the "John Surman Trio" - it's a collectively led group known as "The Trio"…
Great band!!
WOOOOOOOWWWWW
Jay rules 🥇
Wow, did not know this man, but he has some serious soprano playing.

@@alexandrecordeiro4957 Even some of the bigger/important names are unknown to most people including jazz fans.
Couldnt agree more, such a shame...
@@alexandrecordeiro4957Don’t worry-John and his wife have had long and illustrious careers!
And baritone
@@alexandrecordeiro4957 He's not well-known in the States, but is quite respected in Europe.
