What kind of primer do you get that’s sandable? What’s the best trim and door paint for cleaning and a harder finish? Thoughts on water base, oil base or alkyds? What exactly do you use or recommend?
I just purchased a Graco Ultra corded sprayer (17M359) and here's some information that was provided to me by Graco Contractor Equipment Technical Assistance. I had a bunch of questions about part numbers and tip interchangeability, so maybe someone else can benefit from this information too. The TC Pro line is manufactured by Graco for Home Depot and Lowes. They are identical to the Ultra line that Graco makes for themselves. The "Ultra Corded" = "TC Pro Corded"; "Ultra Cordless" = "TC Pro Cordless"; and the "Ultra Max" = "TC Pro Plus". Also, the gray-colored TCP (TC Pro) tips are identical to the green-colored FFLP (fine finish low pressure) tips. The TCP tips are just manufactured/marketed to go with the TC Pro sprayers for Home Depot and Lowes. Both TCP & FFLP tips use the RAC X tip guards (Ultra is blue and TC Pro is gray), providing the same quality finish, and are interchangeable.
I bought a Harbor Freight sprayer for enamel paint the other day, because I cannot see how it would be possible to clean oil based paint out of one of these things. Painted 3 chairs for a customer, made 325.00 so I just chunked the 15 dollar HF sprayer. Worked pretty well, the chairs turned out great. Maybe I am missing something?
I watched a lot of videos about this sprayer but yours is the one that sold it to me. Nicely done. Very informative. I bought it this week and painted a small shed, trim one color and siding another. Great and fast sprayer. I agree that a vlog about cleanup would be nice. The manual says clean it upside down and none of the 'pros' have shown that. Keep up the great work.
As a carpenter you make me want to paint my projects. I don't these days but started as a full time painter at age 16. I did residential re paints and custom painting. I did it for about over 7 yrs and have always sorta missed it.
I also recently bought this as well the ability to use it off existing battery platform. First job was to repaint kitchen cabinets. Primed with oil first, it did not get a nice spray pattern at all with trying several tips sizes and pressure. But once running latex what a machine, low pressure needed and quick not using any cords or hoses. Lays down a beautiful finish on the cabinets. Enjoy I am.
Thanks for the video. I just bought the Ultra equivalent and I love it. I use it for painting woodworking projects and it is SO much better than trying to brush on a smooth finish. Takes a little more time, but the finish looks killer.
Great review. I have been researching this tool for quite a few months and finally pulled the trigger on purchasing one. With your review and a few others, I am confident that I am getting a great product. You are a great RUclipsr and I have watched several of your videos to learn how to do molding and angles. Keep doing what you are doing and I hope you are mega successful. You deserve it. I hope your business is strong as well. Keep the content coming. Thank you....
One thing to note that isn't heavily advertised is that the TC Pro Plus and the Ultra Max (which are the exact same products) both have a brushless motor. The sprayer in this video, the TC Pro (or plain Ultra), use brushed motors.
You should do product review, reviews. Now that its years later, let us know how did the tool pan out. Did it last or fail. Once actually in regular use did it do what you expected
thanks for showing that tool in use and how effective and time saving it is. Next time my brother wants me to help him paint up a bunch of house trim or molding I'm going to take him to Home Depot first.
Thanks for the BIG reminder. got the little air texture thing. a must for touching up around some complete jobs. just got to know how to handle. seen some knuckles throw them away. their loss. PRIMING is the best smooth finish remedy. easy to finish if youre a good brush
I was looking to purchase a new airless spray gun I used to have the big commercial spray gun we dropped the hose into the five gallon bucket but I'm glad I came across your review this way I know I will get a true honest quality opinion
Awesome job dude on the video! Liked the way you explained everything! Realize the over spray is controlled by the tip size but believe if using in doors everything still must be covered well because you could see the over spray in the air as you painted!
Like your channel a lot. I bought the corded version of this tool to paint some doors and some boxed in recessed light i added to my patio. maybe quick work of both projects. Clean up is very simple...great little sprayer for a DIY'er!
Saw a review from another professional painter and he tested the settings with all the different tips. He used the 3 tip on the 3 pressure setting, 4 on the 4 and so on and it sprayed consistent without as much overspray and consistent lines.
The problem with most people these days. They buy tools and products they have no f*****g idea how to use and then they complain or give bad reviews of how bad the product is. Glad you made that comment about people trying to use this for reasons it was not intended for and complaining about it.👍🏾
I found it great for doing doors and trim. It will start to spit when its going bad. Increasing pressure and shooting off target will get you more life, itll get to the point where it wont shoot water. Replacing pump assembly is easy, p2 screws, and once your in you will see the triax pump. You should take it apart and clean the pump motor around 30 gallons
I love your videos dude. You inspired me to buy my first miter saw and router to complete projects around the house and I am really enjoying myself. Any suggestions for a router table?
Thx for the informative info. I noticed that you didn't filter the primer through a mesh prior to using it. I was under the impression that we had to do so to eliminate any imperfection with the paint. Also, I was contemplating on this unit or the graco x5.
Just a lot of thinner if it's oil based and a lot of water if it's water based but take the tip out for sure take the tip out before you even get started
I Think the lowest setting produced the best finish. Seems you can interact more through the process and have more control rather than only walking speed.
I have the Sherwin Williams version. Came with a service kit to renew pressure pump items. Was told the unit only good for the life of the installed seals and service kit. Once both used up pump is useless. Well each pump seal kit is supposed to last up to 100 hours. The problem with my unit is the suction tube is stiff. If you tilt the unit it sucks air and quits spraying. Tip always drips and spits onto work being sprayed making for more sanding if your lucky enough to get the paint to sand down. Mostly end up digging underneath the blob of paint and remudding. Also the reservoir only empties half way before sucking air as the suction tube sits way of the bottom of the reservoir. For $750 Canadian was a waste of money. Batteries last about 20 minutes tops before recharge needed. Also bags of overspray. I have had seriously great results from a Wagner Paint Crew unit. Airless sprayer 2000lbs pressure and totally perfect finish flawless operation, but like lost paint spray equipment most time spent cleaning up
Love your videos. I have a stupid question. I owned a Wagner power sprayer and had problems with it spitting paint had to adjust paint consistency. Do you have to adjust paint consistency? Thank you.
Most of the time it's easier to sand your primer and spray a light coat of finish uninstalled so when you do install your brush doesn't drag on the final coat
Orale esse...I really like d grace paint sprayer I have one myself..I used it on my doors, crown molding, baseboard n door trim.. it’s awesome...people have to remember it is 32oz it can go quick...I give it 5 stars out of 5 for small jobs...dat is wat it’s for small jobs esse ...still rebuilding my home so keep them videos coming ur so encouraging carnalito
Another toy to put on my "to get" tools on the list. Good unboxing review. All I've got is Milwaukee tools but good to know it comes with batteries and a charger as a kit.
The Graco website has a video on how to clean the gun. I used the Graco Pro to paint the shadow fence between my house and garage and it worked great, just like you saw with Richard's job. The problem comes in clean up! I used oil based paint (one gallon) for the fence job. It requires so much mineral spirits, and is so messy to clean the interior and exterior of the gun and it's various parts, that in the end I became so frustrated that I threw the thing away and called it good. It might be easier with water based paints and using water to clean up, but you still have the problem of disposal and bucket after bucket of waste water. All that said, I do plan on purchasing the battery operated model like Richard's, but only using water based paint in it. The electric cord model is much more difficult to use when refilling the paint cup. You end up getting paint all over the exterior of the unit and all over yourself. As we saw in the video, the battery unit is much neater to use. Oh, one more thing, the lower pressure setting you use, the reduced amount of overspray you will encounter. Using the unit at 10 is okay for large flat surfaces like your garage or shed. Richard would have used a lot less paint on the lower setting.
Going off your recommendation for small jobs- would painting kitchen cabinets classify as small- say all the cabinets and frames- doors excluded (small kitchens- 30-40 doors or less)? Looking for more efficient means- and also, does the corded work as well minus the corded hassles?
Thank you for sharing. I just want to know more about airless painter. Because my next project has huge wall surface to paint. I think airless painter will do it faster and save more paint.
I bought the cheaper 360vsp. Wish I would have bought a better sprayer. I used oil based primer and oil based paint. The primer went on amazing. The paint came out bad and I got impatient and sprayed it anyway :( Now I’m gonna have to let it dry and start all over :( Yr vids give me confidence to keep trying and get it right thank you. Hopefully i can figure it out. I realize now I’m stuck with just the two tips :/ Primer was oil based kilz Paint was was oil based baer Front exterior door application I’m just a diy’er hoping to get better.
Do you still try to spray things once they're installed or is it too messy and you go at it with a brush? If you do spray when it's installed, can you do a video of how you keep from ruining everything with over-spray?
Maybe follow up after about 10 jobs and add a trailer to this as an update. I just watched this. Then also just post short 2 minute updates on their own for followups to the new tools being used on jobs. You guys shoot your videos very well. Information is excellent.
A great review. I was looking to purchase one and you answered some of the questions I had. I do have a question, Spraying vs a paint roller, besides saving time with the sprayer, do you use more paint with it? You said that you painted 420 linear ft of board, how much paint total did you use? I saw that you filled it once and had 1/4 of a cup left. So my guess is you used about 1/2 to 2/3 of a gallon of primer? Is that about right? How much (guess) that you would use if you used a roller? I am really pleased with the information and demonstration in your video. Thank you and take care. Tim
Good video thanks for share cuestión : how many hours take you the all project ?? Did you try paint the moldings whit small roller ??? I think tha can be faster and I don’t need to clean the spray gun at the end
The explanation for why they re-brand the same tool for differing outlets is pretty simple its because many of the big outlets have a price guarantee if you can find the same product for less they will beat it by a percentage....usually 15%...Hence the rebranding of the same tool
a little closer together so dont waste the over spray it goes on the one above then slight angle change to get the top edge all the top edges should be facing you
Great review bro. Let's see that flp video next. And if ya got time I'd love 2 see a walk through if the cleaning and care of the gun itself. I'm curious what ur running thru it, is it just water? I mean if ya can't run mineral spirits or kerosene you'd have to use water, right? Or 1 of graco's specific an expensive products. Anyway thanks again, an keep em coming
Good review, I'm still looking at the Graco airless sprayer. But at the moment my list of wants is getting longer and longer. I liked the DeWalt green line laser I saw you use, and really want to get that soon. Thanks for the videos keep them coming.
What kind of primer do you use that is sandable? Also trim and door paint? Pro classic is what I leaning toward but want a great finish. I’m wanting an easy clean and a harder finish. Any help would be great! Water based? Oil? Pros and cons on alkyd?
Sorry for the double upload. First upload was only half of the video! HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS UN-BOXING AND REVIEW OF THE GRACO TC PRO. NEXT VIDEO WILL BE A JOB SITE VIDEO! Thanks for the support!

If u can make a video on how to clean it thoroughly that would be awesome. Keep the vids coming.
I second that please.
Yes we waiting for that for so long

It's easy put water in the cup and Run it just like paint if you want to store it forever or in the cold do the same with pump armor
I would like to see a video of your cleaning process. I have always found a good cleaning process is key to keep your finish consistent.

I never thought of that being the reason
Nice job. I had the original back when they had problems with the batteries. Loved it for exactly what you're doing.

After 150 litres you have to replace the pump which costs half the original unit price which isn’t included in sales pitch or write up
That's good info! Thank you for posting that.
I returned mine 3 days after I got it when I learned that tidbit of info
Wanted one of these for a couple of years. Until now.
I have the corded version. Its awesome! Keep up the videos.

You made this video right in time I have been looking at these trying to make a decision. This helped thanks!
You need a 211 tip to get a smaller fan. Thanks for unboxing
Glad you got it figured out bud. So excited to see what you have planned for the job. Hope all is well and God bless...
I bought one of these about six months ago.I love it!
Sean McAleavy is it still working good?
I have one and I am going to buy the deeper buckets and have 2 ready at the same time.....Very nice sprayer
Thank you! I was trying to figure out the differences between ultra vs pro etc

I didn't know about the flammables in that sprayer. Thanx man!

I’m excited to use my tc pro next weekend but I’ll do two little bedrooms and some trim
How did the job turn out?
Make a video on your process of cleaning these spray rigs and what you use to clean them out and how lubricate them!
Thanks Richard 👍
I love your videos dude. You inspired me to buy my first miter saw and router to complete projects around the house and I am really enjoying myself. Any suggestions for a router table?
Good instructional video!
Should continue to record how to clean it....the company may put it on it web page
Thx for the informative info. I noticed that you didn't filter the primer through a mesh prior to using it. I was under the impression that we had to do so to eliminate any imperfection with the paint. Also, I was contemplating on this unit or the graco x5.
in our neck of the woods (gainesville fl ) they sell pre primed crown and other trim for the same cost as bare wood.
Thanks for the video. Could you please tell or show us what goes into cleaning it.
Fill the cup with water and prime and repeat until it's clear
Just a lot of thinner if it's oil based and a lot of water if it's water based but take the tip out for sure take the tip out before you even get started
Lookin foreward to tryin one out myself. Thanks for the review. Great channel!
Have you ever done a video on how to set up and use a electric sprayer for a newbie to them?
I Think the lowest setting produced the best finish. Seems you can interact more through the process and have more control rather than only walking speed.
Rac X guard and tip is definitely an upgrade, nice video!

Can you show us how you thin your paint for use with the gun (best practices) and how you clean the gun after use?
You don't have to thin the paint if you don't want to. He doesn't thin his paint.
Thanks for the great review. I look forward to seeing you use this paint gun again in another video!
Love the info you put out.
Makes me wanna go buy one now lol... I feel like I been supporting HD with all the money I spend there. But your only as good as your tools....
Love your videos. I have a stupid question. I owned a Wagner power sprayer and had problems with it spitting paint had to adjust paint consistency. Do you have to adjust paint consistency? Thank you.
Thanks Richard--another nice review!
Might seem silly but I would like to see how you clean the spray gun as well. Thanks for the great videos!
Most of the time it's easier to sand your primer and spray a light coat of finish uninstalled so when you do install your brush doesn't drag on the final coat
Can you talk about how to maintain a gun like this? Cleaning, switching paints, storage. That kind of stuff. I'm a carpenter but never touch paint.

Good for trim and Cabinets Chair's Doors Stairs.
I have one of those and it just collects dust, stick to an airless with a 25' hose works great
They are good for really small projects. I usually break out the airless tho.
You should try spraying the ones further away from you first and spraying back towards you so you don't have to be stepping on any overspray

Nice review friend, Ithought it was a little noisy but I could live with it
Great video and spray gun for small jobs I think you need to use 211 tip for this job you do right now 👍✌️🇧🇦
Going off your recommendation for small jobs- would painting kitchen cabinets classify as small- say all the cabinets and frames- doors excluded (small kitchens- 30-40 doors or less)? Looking for more efficient means- and also, does the corded work as well minus the corded hassles?
Totally wrong sprayer to do kitchens with
Thank you for sharing. I just want to know more about airless painter. Because my next project has huge wall surface to paint. I think airless painter will do it faster and save more paint.
Wish I had never told you about my brush finish secret.
Would you use this to paint new construction kitchen cabinets in a small kitchen? I'm building the cabinets.
Great video but I'd like to see how or what you have to do to clean it, once it's used.
I bought the cheaper 360vsp. Wish I would have bought a better sprayer. I used oil based primer and oil based paint. The primer went on amazing. Use a big zip lock bag inside the cup for an easy way to keep the cup clean.
Do you still try to spray things once they're installed or is it too messy and you go at it with a brush? If you do spray when it's installed, can you do a video of how you keep from ruining everything with over-spray?

A great review. I was looking to purchase one and you answered some of the questions I had. I do have a question, Spraying vs a paint roller, besides saving time with the sprayer, do you use more paint with it? You said that you painted 420 linear ft of board, how much paint total did you use? I saw that you filled it once and had 1/4 of a cup left. Would you recomment this gun for an outdoor wooden fence? Or how about an exterior deck? What about for a interior doors?
Alain
That’s what I’m wondering also ??
Got a 1000 fence would this be good
I know you use Bin primer. The shellac based. Could you use that gun to spray Bin?
Diesel is a good option instead of the expensive pump armour. I didn't believe it at first either:-)
Nice gun it does a great job
Also what are the cleaning instructions plus how it works with stain and water base clear coats
I always wonder about clean up with tools like this. I was wondering about your two cents on this?
Good video thanks for share cuestión : how many hours take you the all project ?? Did you try paint the moldings whit small roller ??? I think tha can be faster and I don’t need to clean the spray gun at the end
