Last fight ended with 8 HP left! I remember the feelings of accomplishment of finishing this game when I was 15. That was over 2 decades ago and that will stay with me forever
This is my favorite FF series simply because it was the first rpg i've ever played back in the 80s during my golden years as a 9 year old kid. It takes me back to those nights when my parents were gone and i was all alone in a big, scary house. This game kept me ignorant of being alone and afraid as it filled my dark, chilly room with magic and warmth as i played this game underneath my blanket propped up by the 16" analogue tv. I would trade everything i have to relive those wonderful days again.
I agree with you. Final fantasy make my top 10 on the nes. The replay value is even better than ff4 since you can choose so many combination of light warriors. I really love ff4 anyway.
Im 35, just played the game for the first time (i owned a SEGA Mastersystem), i played for 6 days & 4 hours a day to beat this game, and DESTROYED this game with ease. Went Fighter + Fighter + Red Mage + Black Mage. Protips: -You can grind gold & exp vs Orges around the 'Melmond' city area. -Use the Wizard's Heal Staff near the end of your battle to heal your party to save gold instead of using heal potions. -Cast 'Fast' at the START of your battles on each of your Fighter class heroes to do DOUBLE damage EACH strike!
You can try a solo fighter run if you want sometime and you will be able to judge the pros and cons. For example, you can level faster, take less dmg, sell more weapons & armors for gold etc but you get less turn and are always outnumbered plus instant death enemies can be rough until you get the instant-death protection armors. Everything that basically stun you become the strongest enemies in the game (stronger than chaos or any bosses). Geists, ghouls, images, oddeyes, crawls and wraith...
Stands up and slowly begins to clap.Major kudos to you,I enjoyed the whole 4 hours and 3 minutes, not skipping anything.FF1 is my ALL time favorite FF game,if it wasn't for this,no FF would be possible.Very underestimated game, but worth all our time.Again, congrats, and thank you. 😂😂👏👏👏
This was a tough game as a kid in 1990. Anyone remember a Nintendo Power Strategy Guide to get through this game? I remember how challenging it was to canoe through the rivers and to get through the caves to find the thing to raise the Airship, and then get back.
Very nice run through the game, I enjoyed it! It explained some questions I had about where & how certain special items are to be used. This is one of the best RPGs for the classic NES, just as much fun as Dragon Warrior is.
I think I'm 38, can't remember 2020 is nuts, but I just stumbled across this for the first time ever. My first final fantasy game. Love it, are the rest as good? Not new to gaming just this game was always a die hard zelda fan and still am. Just growing up I didn't play these types. I needed to swing a sword, lol. Guess I don't have to wait for part two, probably came out 30 years ago. I have gamed in years, due to 2020 and no life me and the girl got a Nintendo preloaded with some fun easy games we could play while we watched the world just get crazier and crazier. I'll tell you this if the world needs me to save a princess in December, I'm good, that I can handle. Just call me link and I'll be rocking Christmas carols on my ocarina of Time. You never know! Big help this dudes walk throw I haven't fought an end duder in years. Yeah I said end duder, that what we called them in the 80's and 90's. For your own safety lol. Have fun playing in 2020 and if there's a 2021.
Hope you've made it around to playing the rest of the old ones with the Pixel Remasters! Or any other versions really but I'm loving the new remasters.
Can you believe that the vampire become harder than kracken when you play with a solo fighter>? Well its true because they both hit hard when you meet them in the game but the big difference is, you can have kracken attack completely stop by casting defense 3x time in battle. Just use the defense sword in combat. With a solo fighter, you don't even have anything yet to raise evasion % in battle against the vampire.
Down to 8HP at the end. Whoa that's about as close as I would ever want to cut it!!! Very nice job but there'd be now way that I'd ever try to make it with only one player just to save time.
Very cool bro. Beat this game like ten times on NES and PSP. Never thought to do it like this. You can level up to the max at beginning of game eh. FF4 and this game are my favs.

The Eye is probably better to use as a easy way to gain experience points to level up. That one spot where you run into an Eye each time. It would be a little quicker than killing that Agama over and over around 3:30:00 Edit: never mind. I see what you did there.
I still don’t get how you managed to get so much ogres at the start. Everytime I go there I get the wolves or the imps, you get ogres like all the time.

Hey i just saw your hyborian kingdom playthrough ...is this available on a cartridge or download... I would like to play it... I just recently finished shin zelda no densetsu i got that one on a cartridge.. Its hard as hell and has a few glitches but not bad at all... I hope i can play your game too
Thanks>! After you beat the ice cave, the game become less linear and you can basically go where you want. I had fun switching the order of the dungeons and the fiends. Beating kracken before kary saved me quite a lot of time.
how the hell did they manage to fit that into a nes. i'm currently developping an rpg with no game engine and my game lags twice as much with 2 times less things. without even counting the memory leaks
im about to play this game for the first time, what is the advantage of no revive strategy u are doing here? Is this how a pro would play thru the game?
Pros & cons: You can level up faster, you can take less damage because its can be filter through a solo fighter with high level of defense, you have a lot more stuff to sell for extra gold and you have a lot less to buy. Cons: You get less turn, you are always outnumbered in battle, instant death and paralysis enemies become the strongest foes in the game since you are alone. You will see what i mean eventually when you play the game.
For a experience gamer with this game like me, its easier with just one but since you are playing for the first time, i recommend that you play with the most easiest party combination of four light warriors: 1 fighter, 1 black belt, 1 white mage and 1 black mage. That the recommend party for beginners by square enix in the game manual.
I’m a big adventure time fan, and I was wondering if Cartoon Network took inspiration of the lich the fiend of the earth to make their own villain or its just a coincidence But I mean they look the same so maybe not
While I want to believe, I do struggle with every stun/paralyze immediately wearing off as if it were nothing. Also no stone that would immediately end the conquest.
When it works it's faster but it's also easy to get a game over with nothing you can do about it. Stone, paralyse, death magic etc. So it's not "marathon safe".
Happy to keep you entertained. This is a list of the easiest boss to the hardest for this run: 1: Zombie Dragon 2: Eye 3: Kary 4: Blue Dragon 5: Garland 6: Illithiad 7: Kracken 8: Tiamat 9: Vampire 10: Lich 11: Astos 12: Chaos
Man, the grinding process of this Game is so boring and annoying. I spent 3 days grinding in only one spot in the game, and it was no fun at all. The game is too good to stop, but too boring to enjoy
Without monster animations and an ability to just skip boring(not all) fights FF1-6 are almost completely unplayable games for me, sadly. At least FF3 and FF4 has a 3d remakes where most of those problems were fixed. Note, that I did actually beat the FF1 and FF3 on PSP, so I'm more or less familiar with this game. It is really good, yes, liked it a lot overall(despite all my frustration) but I can't understand how can someone play such an action oriented RPG with those issues that i just listed earlier. To me it really sucks that people like you are ok with this... You see, for SE it means that they can spend next to no money on these re-releases and still got YOU covered, but not me. FF1 has more than 5 ports and every single one of them is a pretty low budget conversions with almost all problems remains intact... I just hope that at least 30th Anniversary will finally motivate SE to create another FFOrigins remake and finally spend some adequate money on it. Romancing SaGa 2 remake was already an inspiring step to the right direction and hopefully all classic FF will got even better treatment someday. But whatever - great playthrough, man.
What rpg would you have played in 1989-1990>? Where you even born at that time>? My questions to you...You would have probably did the same thing as us, the kids of the 80s. You would have played final fantasy, dragon warrior, crystalis, destiny of a emperor, mother, zelda ll or willow etc. The rpg games were very limited at that time and those were the best rpg we had. There were also inferior rpg like ultima, the bard tale, ghost lion or wizardry. etc We played the best one that was on the market at that time. Remember that you would not be able to play final fantasy 7 and above in 1990 so logically, the best rpg of my generation are the one that really mark our childhood (people who are around my age). I also love final fantasy 7 and above a lot even if the 3-D graphics were at a early stage and some of the polygons graphics suck (like cloud square arms) but in fact, almost all the ff games are good or at least decent. My goal was not to start a fight between the old generation and the new. Anyone has the right to prefer what they want. Thanks for watching, really appreciate it.
Sqaresoft and Enix could have afford an animated enemies even back then in late 80s and hardware limitation has nothing to do with this. It was just quantity over quality, man. Instead of creating so many variation of monsters(FF3 has like 100 unique enemies...why?) they could have reduced the number of their types and use their time and resources on the animation. Just like Sega and Capcom did in their Phantasy Star and Brave of Fire series. But they stubbornly did the opposite(until 1995), thanks to the lack of any criticisms from people like you and game press. In-fact there are a couple of NES and Famicom JRPG with animated enemies and some of them were released in 80s. Some of them also even allow you to simply skip or exit the fight faster than DQ and FF do. I really don't like the repetitiveness of encounters with average enemies and lifeless combat in which I have to imagine something that was supposed to be just showed to me by the devs. Yeah, IMO even a shitty 1-2 frame animation is better than nothing at all. It would have been tolerable if devs at least used a text boxes with full descriptions of enemies behavior, but they never did. Even manual has nothing! Less combat in general could have helped too, but again - it was never the case with this genre. it's not about graphics. I don't care if it 2d or 3d, or how good/modern it looks in general. I just can't deal with these stuff anymore, my FF1 PSP bored me to no end and I really don't want to experience the same frustration again. imgur.com/Yk0hpUS This is my animation. Made it in less than an hour and I'm not even a proper artist. Such a big deal...
I think you're focusing way too much on a little visual detail *that don't even change anything to the core of the game*. You don't like rpg games without animation, we get it...We had hundred of games with animation on the system, if we wanted to play games with animation we just play mega man or contra etc.The story was awesome for 1990, the graphics were excellent, the game was also well-balanced, you could also choose between hundred of different combination of different party (you can't do that in zelda II and the game has animation). If you don't like rpg games that has no animations, just don't play them, that all. Simple as that. I will keep playing rpg with or without animation (i like both). *Animation is not what a make a rpg good or bad*.
How the hell did you read my post? I've stated that my problems with these games could have been solved by design decisions, artists input is not necessary.

First time i am seeing this "no revive" strategy, cutting away 75% of combat time.
You can try a solo fighter run if you want sometime and you will be able to judge the pros and cons. I'm planning on recording a solo white mage run, any guidance or recommendations would help. Congrats on sub 4-hours!
I din't made sub 4-hours on the first try but after practicing for about a month, i finally beat it under four hours. The best advices i can give you is to continually cast ruse until the enemies don't hit you anymore (invs2 later in the game). Fade will be the ultimate reward at the end of the game and don't forget to cast xfer to removes an enemy's special defences. Expect a lot of 1 dmg hits...

Yes, playing with a solo light warrior is considered more advance and more pro than playing with a party of four.
Ty!
Easier to beat the game with 1 hero or 4?
For a experience gamer with this game like me, its easier with just one but since you are playing for the first time, i recommend that you play with the most easiest party combination of four light warriors: 1 fighter, 1 black belt, 1 white mage and 1 black mage. That the recommend party for beginners by square enix in the game manual.

This is my animation.
To my the Final fantasy gold era was I to Vi next is VII to IX that's the silver era from those wonderful games
