    Super cool. Here is the training sum-up:
    First: Warm--up.
    Then: do every technique series 1/slowly, (2/then half-speed,) 3/then full-speed:
    STATIC (x10):
    1 - Shizen-tai Choku-tsuki
    2 - Heisoku-dachi Mae-geri
    3 - Zenkutsu-dachi Gyaku-tsuki
    4 - Zenkutsu-dachi Mae-geri
    MOVING FORWARD, Ayumi-Ashi (x3):
    5 - Zenkutsu-dachi Oi-tsuki
    6 - Zenkutsu-dachi Gyaku-tsuki
    7 - Zenkutsu-dachi Age-uke
    8 - Zenkutsu-dachi Soto-uke
    9 - Zenkutsu-dachi Uchi-uke
    10 - Kokutsu-dachi Shuto-uke
    Breathe deeply and properly between series when needed.
    End: Stretch!

    As much time as you can. If you are busy and only have 20 minutes, it's still better than nothing. Do 5 minutes of stretching and 15 minutes of kihon, kata, or kumite. Rotate what you practice each day and then review at the end of the week if you have a day off from work.

      Thanks for this informative video,I had a question,its gonna be a little big.I like shotokan,fascinated by it,wanna take it soon,I am currently a muaythai kickboxer,with a heavy emphasis on boxing.Now I like shotokan because it is known to be a very effective art,it builds quickness and real life self defense skills,and most importantly pin point accuracy(lyoto machida has always said that shotokan has gave him a great accuracy and defense that no other MA could),but i also hear something a lot,which is that it does not build toughness,and many shotokan karate practitioner do not fair well against full contact strikers,which is according to many due to the fact that shotokan program does not focus on hard sparring,thus does not build the mental or physical conditioning to endure punishment,or the skills to knock your adversaries out,however there are many exceptions.But other than that I beleive that it is an outstanding style.
      So,what I would like to do is study shotokan seriously,but also to train it and spar in a full contact or realistic way,that way I will maintain my full contact toughness and become efficient in applying shotokan in real situations.But as far as i am concerned,I wont be able to spar shotokan full contact,or like a knockout game,no shotokan place is going to allow it,and also it is gonna be hard to find shotokan partners to spar full contact.So,according to me,the best thing to do would be to mix kickboxing and shotokan somehow,I mean doing both,while ripping out the benefits of both of them,the accuracy and quickness of shotokan and the skills of realistic MT striking game.My question is how do I go about it,do you have any special suggestion about this?Will crosstraining in both arts prove out to be effective,or are there any other more effective ways with which will I be benefitted,thnx for reading this far,anyone with a thought feel free to reply,thnx in advance.

    I haven't watched the video yet, since I'm at work, but seeing your refridgerator in the corner reminds me of one of the best reasons for home training: having an ice cold craft beer just feet away from you after finishing sweating your butt off!

    Standing upright allows you to focus solely on the mechanics of the punch, however there is nothing wrong with doing the punch from a horse stance. I use that training method too.

    Phil ippe I am also far but maybe one day we all can have a training session. We can all take and share as lead instructors. I workout in a bar before I open and sometimes at 4:00 am or 5:00 am. We can pick a time that is good for everyone. We can train via Skype one. I am in Puerto Rico right but have train on Japan time which is 13 hours a head of my current time zone. New York is one hour behind my current time zone. My Skype is jeffmbx.

    Thanks so much for the template! You broke each move down into more steps than I'm used to, so I can really improve my technique inbetween classes. However, I was unable to see and fully understand your foot/legwork in the first half or so of the video because of the way the camera is aimed. I waned to make sure I was doing the stances correctly before integrating it together and stepping into them.

      Jim Richardson Hi, I know I'm not Sensei Paul, and this is three years later but, as someone with several years experience in karate, I can tell you it's never too Late! With regular training and dedication, you could obtain a black belt in 3 years! Oss!

    • @Steaks652
      @Steaks652 6 лет назад

      Dean Pullen , white belt 3 months, 2nd white 3 months, blue 3 months, 2nd blue 3 months, yellow 3 months, 2nd yellow 3 months. 1 year 6 months up to now, no fails, and no injuries. green belt 3 months, 2 nd green 3 months. You then have to wait 6 months to national grading to brown, 2 and half years, await further 6 months to 2 nd brown. That's 3 years. Now you have to wait 12 months before even being recommended for Black belt, so that's 4 years, so if successful at all gradings and free of injuries, and you pass first time you are a black belt. This is Kyokushin though. Not many in my time got the coveted black that quick. So if you were exceptional kiss goodbye to 5 years hard training. Personally I disagree with the fast track to Black belt, as this should not be encouraged. Styles that award Black belt in just 3 years are not worth the grade therefore devaluation results.

    Sorry, but there is something wrong in your punches, I first noticed that, then after I slow it down, it became more clear: before you punch, you arm that is supposed to punch (and your fist) is dropping down then moving forward. That's WRONG! When performing punch, your arm was supposed to go STRAIGHT FORWARD from your hip diagonal forward to the chest of your opponent. It seems that, before you move your arm forward, you drop your fist, move it backwards and then forward (if you slow it down to 0.25 at 11:00 and further you will see what I was talking about). What you were doing is quite wrong, your punch must go straight forward from your hip, not "down-backwards-forward". Other than this, I like your katas.

    it seems to me that you completely missunderstood the concept of a tsuki, e.g. a straight forward punch. imho you should not snap the fist towards your target in the last moment of the technique, instead it should be a linear, straight motion of your fist and hand towards the target. Also your gedan-barai looks way to high for me...

      @akexkdffakdkwicdfkkdkk7343 7 лет назад

      Florian Wiessner You've both cut out the hidden short punch inside the suggested tsuki motion (in case the opponent suddenly moves in), and the ability to cut your opponent's skin, by not waiting for the last moment to twist the punch. Goju-ryu does it a very similar way for the same reason.

    Thanks for checking in. We made it. My son was a champ, ripped through the whole thing...me...at 45, kind of limped across the finish line but I made it. Just the most fulfilling and incredible experience of my life, we did it together. Our test was three days, sparring was the last thing we did and our Sensei ended the test with my son and I sparring...sort of a tribute to us sticking it out together. It was a great moment, the whole dojo erupted in cheers, it was awesome.
