I love watches. I have a number of good automatics, a Grand Seiko Spring Drive, Grand Seiko Quartz, very nice vintage Rolex and Omega, and an Apple watch. About midnight in March 2020, I was wearing my Apple watch because I had been riding my Exercycle. I started up the stairs to go to bed. Half way up, I missed a handgrip on the stair rail. I remember missing the grip, and not much else about my fall. When I woke up I was laying on my back at the bottom of the stairs. When I opened my eyes the first thing I saw was the paramedics kneeling over me. One of the Apple watch health features senses a hard fall, asks you to respond if you are OK, and it you don't respond, it calls paramedics and the emergency contacts you have stored in the Apple watch Health app. I had a major concussion and after a lights and siren ride, spent the night at the local trauma center. My Apple watch maybe saved my life. It called the paramedics, my wife and my daughter. It also guided the paramedics to my location. While I still most often wear my other watches, I love my Apple watch. It's tough to dislike a lifesaver like my Apple watch.

Firstly, the spring drive is perhaps the greatest watch movement ever made, really cool that you got one and secondly about the apple watch, most ppl shrug off the health features thinking they r mostly either for the "elderly" population or they are for the fitness fanatics but the story you mentioned is a great example of how it can benefit anybody. And that one incident easily justifies the purchase of Ur apple watch by ten folds

My first comment was that I enjoy your insight and how refreshing it is and you never disappoint. The mechanical traditionalists will never appreciate anything new,, they still hate quartz movement and will never change. Make the content you enjoy sharing and those whom love your channel will continue to support you. You are the reason we watch. Tausend Dank Jenni

Raise to speak (near mouth of course) to activate siri is great without touching anything or saying hey siri. It works almost always in series 6 even in noisy environment compared to 70% or less in series 5 and 4. Best to speak near mouth after 1 second after display turns on or 1 sec after once raised near mouth. Also most don't use send as audio or send as text....also use raise to speak to activate siri without saying hey siri. Plus all other functions using raise to speak like playing music, timer like when cooking, setting reminders immediately, making note or list or any idea in your mind to take note of or tru voice memos, artists can easily record any sound idea they have at any moment tru voice recording, asking for translation like when travelling in other countries and it will say it in their language, and all the meanings in dictionary, also any question you have tru internet at any moment even if you're in bed with eyes close or children with questions, also ''call my wife'' like
      ruclips.net/video/zvX8pXCZhxI/видео.html
or ''message Eduard'', even voice message tru send as audio by settings in iPhone for apple watch, ask to calculate something, and ping my iPhone...whatever you want even turning on smart appliances or lights or other appliances connected to smart outlets like say ''turn on tv'' without saing hey siri or hey bla bla bla, ''find my remote'' if it has airtag, ''open the garage'', ''turn on the fan'', you can even set cameras at gate and doors and see tru your watch, ...or ping your cat using Tile or find my cat etc when airtags is released or missing child or finding people when in open areas like malls and parks. All the timezones and currencies conversion is always on your wrist. The whole dictionary and pronounciations. Actually many apple watch users dom't know how to maximise the use of apple watch. The watch is no longer for watching just the time and date, it watches your health and fitness. You can even listen to audiobooks or podcasts while exercising esp outdoors with airpods etc. 70million songs if connected to internet. Or listen to downloaded songs tru airpods or play on other device like speakers and control it easily. There are more incoming apps and accessories that will bring value to daily life of many people. Fall detection is very important for old people esp when alone with fall as 2nd cause of death in accidental deaths so they can easily contact for emergency or SOS can be made even if they became unconscious, or can't move after accidents and still can contact like hey siri call emergency or call someone you know.

I love my mechanical watches but I also love my Apple Watch - I use a lot of the apps on it, so it's actually really helpful. Recently, since I got an AP, however, I've been putting my Apple Watch in my pocket (no strap) so I can at least keep track of steps and calories burned. But I sometimes leave the AP at home and wear the Apple Watch, just for variety.
It's so great to finally find a watch channel featuring a woman! IDK why it seems like every other watch channel is hosted by men. I like those channels, too, but I'm so relieved to have found (and subbed to) your channel.

I wore mechanical watches for most of my adult life, on the flip side, I was someone that did not do any type of exercises. In 2016 I decided to make a lifestyle change (due to some health concerns at the time), lost some weight (about 45 pounds) and started the process of walking, then running and fell in love with it. At the time I started wearing a Fitbit that looked like a bracelet and still wore my mechanical watches on the other wrist, but as time went by I wanted to know more about the fitness aspects of my day to day activities and upgraded to Garmin vivosmart, then to Garmin Vivoactive and eventually, to the Apple Watch which became my daily watch. What happened to my mechanicals, they were kept in the watch box for extended periods of time and eventually, sold off.. I don't miss them, I just transitioned into a different lifestyle that came with different interests.

Jenni, I also wear my AW almost all the time while my other watches (some mechanical, some quartz) sit in the box. It's even useful to me at home where I can leave the phone somewhere else to avoid distraction like you say at 9:25 , and I also use it to wake myself in the morning (like you talk about at 5:40 ). Pretty much the only times I wear my regular watches now are while my AW charges in the evening or when I take a backup watch on a trip.

I’ve had my series 6 Apple Watch for several months and I’m very happy with it. Along the way I’ve accumulated 6 different watch bands. My favorite by far is the solo braided loop. It is the most comfortable, very secure and the easiest to pull on and off over my hand. The braided solo loop doesn’t provoke that annoying sweaty feeling that I get from the silicon bands. I don’t necessarily agree with the price of the braided loop, but it’s so outstandingly comfortable that I don’t regret my purchase. Thanks for your review, and enjoy your watch! 🌸

I love this review. I'm glad I'm not the only one wearing my Apple Watch 6 and a mechanical watch on each wrist, as I just got into mechanical watches this year. I noticed the same problem of having to double-tap an app to close it down. The battery life will always be an issue, but consider you're wearing a wrist iphone and that is why it needs daily charging. What it offers in practicality makes the apple watch a huge winner against other smart watch competitors, but I also use it as a sleep-tracker/activity-tracker, and at work I really need the timer function. Also, when I don't want to be seen holding a phone at work, I can speak a text message into my Apple watch and send texts to family that way.

I just can't be arsed with the charging it every day. I had the Samsung smartwatch - but found duplicating additional notifications and content on my phone, just made more noise, which I don't need. It's mainly steps, heartrate / resting - the rest of it I don't need, so swapped back to a real watch on the left wrist and the skinniest fitbit for my right. There's only so many notifications you can deal with - or I can!

Important to remember that the Rolexes and Omegas got their start as "tool" watches, not luxury timepieces they have evolved into. Seriously, a $10K Rolex isn't a "tool" any longer. The Apple Watch is exactly a "tool" watch for the modern era. I never intended to purchase an Apple Watch, but received a Series 4 as part of a longitudinal health care study at a local hospital while my Omega Railmaster was in service. The Railmaster hasn’t touched my wrist in three months. The Apple on my watch serves for monitoring health care, a timer when cooking, a fast way to check email or calendar without searching for the phone, etc. Much more practical than expected. While I covet a new Rolex, the immense savings in lieu of an Apple Watch makes me happy too.

I agree with your conclusions. Steve Jobs rarely wore a watch himself, because he didn't like constantly being reminded of the time. In the eighties/ninties he did wear a very modern, functional looking black and white Seiko and occasionally Gold Baume and Mercier dress watch. Surprisingly, he had NOTHING to do with this product, and thereby missed a big opportunity to expand Apple sales. It seems Apple only launched it in response once competitors did. Designer, Jonny Ives says it was not their intent to replace or compete with traditional watches. (He owns a Patek Nautilus) The iWatch is a great product for those NOT into ordinary watches. But for a watch nut like me, I just find it redundant to my iPhone. I view it much in the same category as my cheap digital watches like Casio, which I wear mainly for exercise or doing things like working on my car. But, if I wasn't so into watches, and had more of a tight office worker schedule, I might wear it as my main watch...

Yea, good amount of courage to review this with your automatic fan base. Honestly, I don't see a big difference between the apple watch and a overly complicated g-shock, except it does more things. G-shock for more rugged design and function, but apple watch for more usefulness and polish. I never thought to wear it as a pair to the mechanical, but I think it looks pretty good that way rather than a stand alone device.

I enjoy the benefits of the technology in rugged smart watches such as my Fenix 6X. But, for a while, I was missing wearing the mechanical watches in my collection. I also did not want to lose the ability to compile, analyze, and use all of the data that my Garmin device picks up. So, rather than wear the relatively huge Fenix 6X on my right wrist AND a watch on my other wrist, I now wear the very small Vivosmart 4 on my right wrist, and my mechanical watches on my left wrist. I wear my Garmin Fenix 6X when I go to the gym or hit the track for my workouts. So far, I am happy with that. Here is an idea: Someone invent a watch strap that - at the buckle - houses the electronics for a smart device (such as the Vivosmart) while looking like a regular watchstrap - complete with spring bars and all that. So, if you want to wear your mechanical watch AND still have the technology, you'd simply attach the new strap hybrid to the watch. From the top, no one would know. As a wearer, you'd still get the vibration prompts under your wrist and so on.

There's a big part of me that would like to try a smartwatch, but I feel like because I love mechanical watches so much I'd have to do the same as you are here and wear one on each wrist. I'm not sure that I'm ready to take that on yet, especially in my circle of ball-busting friends. I think personally I'd use it less for the fitness tracking and more for call/text notifications and oddly enough countdown timers. I've gotten pretty good at doing daily tasks with an elapsed time readout like a dive bezel, but nothing would beat setting actual timers and alarms to stay on top of things.

However, if you’re anything like my brother who is a simple guy and treasures his classic watches, maybe lay off the Apple Watch. His girlfriend bought him the s6 and he literally just put a photo of her on the face, and looks at it for the time. That’s it.
Also if you’re going for the fitness features, I reckon you should just go for the aluminium over the stainless steel since it’s lighter and good for sleeping with. I’d rather wear my classic watches to fancy events, and would beat the purpose of me buying a stainless steel watch.

    Sorry for long post but:
Classical mechanical watches have different purpose on this day and age. They are engineering and craftmanship art, so not in the same category as smartwatches or regular watches. As an artform, they are more for investing and appreciating and less for serving a functional purpose even though they were viewed as such in the past.
Having said that, I had a smartwatch (not Apple) before given to me as a gift. First thing I noticed as an engineer and curious about all things technological, was that the device has many shortfalls in my opinion:
1- It supposedly counts calories burned based on your ECG. The ECG may be accurate, but the calories burned really depends on each person metabolism.
2- It supposedly tells you how many steps you climbed, but this is totally flawed because it relies on GPS, and hence if you drive up a hill in your car, it counted as 100 of floors climbed!
3- It supposedly tells you how many steps you took for a 1000 steps reference for good health, but this was again flawed since it relies on internal accelerometers to check your forearm movement. So if you sit on a chair and begin swinging your arms, it counts the "steps" that way too.
Ironically the only thing it measured precisely was time, but even for that it was lousy as its screen had to fade black to conserve battery - whereas a mechanical or quartz watch is there for you to show the time on an instant glance. Based on that I doubt smartwatches do anything with the desirable precision or practicality.
So I made a compromise, I bought an EQB quartz analog watch from Casio that connects with my smartphone via Bluetooth. It is a regular watch that uses the smartphone to adjust dual timezones of different countries automatically when I travel. It has a button to make my phone ring when I am searching for it below the blankets. There are not many functions compared to a full fledged smartphone, but my motto as an engineer is: better a machine that can perform a single job with excellence than a gadget that cannot perform 1000 things reasonably well.

I love mechanical watches because they are an escape from the technology that dominates our life in 2020. The last thing we need is a way to be even more overcome with notifications and distractions from the people close to us in our lives. I don't need, or want notifications on my wrist, as they are bad enough as a constant distraction in my pocket. Not meaning any offense here, but wearing two watches is silly... Lose the apple accessory and stick with your mechanical watches. Obviously you're in great shape and don't need a watch to confirm that.

So you'd have the regular watch on the outward side of your wrist and the AW on the inward side. I don't think it was too successful as I haven't seen any "in the wild" pics online. You'd also need to be sure that the magnets inside the AW don't magnetize the mechanical watch.

My pastor was the first person I saw wear a mechanical watch on one wrist and apple watch on the other. And now you are the second. I personally feel that's too much accessories at the same time. I'd rather wear mechanical on special occasions and apple watch on regular basis. I only own one mechanical watch and it's rose gold so it doesn't go with every outfit anyway lol.

Thanks Jenni for another great video. I could listen to you all day and I am not even that much of a watch lover.

I wear mine on the same wrist as my 24 hr vostok. One above wrist. One below. I only really view it as a health/tracker not a “real watch”. Tho i wouldnt say its not a watch. Tracks my heart (tho ive been without it for 2 months due to technical issues on my old one which will be replaced with this watch). Also, lovely content for watches! :)
