He says "for the purpose of this video" which isn't necessary. A hot dog is a sandwich *by the essential definition of a sandwich* which is that the bread encloses the other ingredients, enabling eating out of hand.
The only use I could see for the burger holder is for someone who is able to set up a 1-hand holder for someone who is less able to hold with 2-hands. But, a pita would be a much better solution.
I could see it being good for burgers that have sloppy toppings (chili or a cheese sauce, for example), and may be useful for kids that struggle to hold bigger sandwiches together. Hi Dan & Epicurious team. I have an interesting idea - Dan starts off these videos saying he's been designing kitchen gadget's for 40 years. What if you had Dan go through some of his earliest designs, and seeing how he could improve them now? :)
Just so you know they just did this a week ago! So you're idea has come to life!! NIce :) Video Title on youtube: 5 Vintage Kitchen Gadgets Tested By Design Expert Edit: Realized you said his own designs my bad lol
I didn't know it was only done in the midwest. Granted though I only do it on School subs and other sandwiches (Subway is safe). But now I think of it, I do put ketchup on quite of a bit stuff as well. So I do agree on being called out for, though as a Yooper I don't like Kectupe and Mustard on my pasty so long as it's a good pasty.
I think the burger holder was useful for keeping the ingredients from being squeezed out the other side when taking bites, not for not being messy, although maybe that's what the packaging advertised it as.
I had the first gadget in high school. I got really hooked on the fast food version of the sandwiches while working there during the summer but during the school year it was always super busy bc it was right next to the high school. So to avoid the breakfast rush I I used some of my summer money to get a sandwich maker. Used it basically every day, and I’m pretty sure now my mom uses it to make breakfast for my younger siblings lol they hold up pretty well over time.
I love the sandwich cutter. My dad used it to make sandwiches for lunches all the time. Literally had it for years and it still works like a charm. And yes, we would give the scraps to the groundhog in the backyard.
The hamburger holder would be very beneficial for me, with tremors in both hands I have difficulty holding burgers. No joke. For the average person that serves no use, but for the small amount who are in need of assistance… We are grateful
Wow, that pita burger holder idea is ingenious. I'm gonna start selling regular pita rebranded as edible no-mess burger holder. Nobody steal this idea, please!
Breakfast sandwith maker might also work as a double pancake maker. The burger holder is so the fillings don't slip out of the other side while you're eating, but you could probably just hold it with a paper towel.
They’re kinda doing the condiment gun dirty, cuz I thought it was marketed as a joke/novelty product. Although tbh it’s not good in that respect either lol
I could go for the sandwich cutter and sealer. Yes, it only has one function. But I have a child who does not like anything made from peanuts. An uncrustable sandwich made with almond butter and jelly would be something he would love. Plus the ingredients for the sandwiches are cheaper than buying the box of uncrustables. A win-win in my book
If you don't have or want to buy one of those sandwich cutters, you can also make DIY uncrustables using a drinking glass to cut the sandwich. There's tutorials online for how to do it, but it's pretty straightforward! You could try it that way, see if your kid is into it before you buy an actual gadget for them
they do also make them in a square variety like Dan suggests for his redesign (assuming your kid would be okay with that - I know some are really attached to the round shape), and they're pretty decently priced on Amazon
On the condiment gun make the pressure like that of a calk gun. Also my version of a pb&j is pb super thin layers on both pieces of bread to help keep the jelly from over moistening the bread. Just an opinion though. I trust in your expertise, and really enjoy your channel. Make croutons with the left over bread.
I really enjoy this series, but especially the part where he points out design flaws with his left hand. by doing that, he's also testing to see how accessible these devices are to people with disabilities that affect motor functions!
I can't lie, this guys great lol. he has a perfect relatable feel to him. sure he's doing the classic cheesy Infomercial nonsense, but his nonchalant and obvious satirical moments are pretty spectacular.
I'm a disabled person with erb's palsy. I actually believe the burger holder looks amazing and something that could benefit me greatly. I can only lift one hand to my mouth and because of that, burgers have a higher chance of falling apart (and often are messy) because I can't get as good of a grip. Something like that would hold it together and be easier to grip for me and keep my burger together. Even while eating a burger with your hands vs the device, you used one hand vs two hands. :) The "using both hands like a normal person" comment felt a bit ablest and I hope instead you'd consider using the term "average person" especially since this gadget might not be for ablebodied individuals.
I think he and the gadget may be designed for able bodied ppl and he was talking to them too, but with a better design i think it would work for disabled
In terms of the jar scraper, I took my thinnest spatula that was flexible and trimmed back the back side (the long flat side) and left the contoured side in tact. It was the best solution. You were going there with your design, but a thinned out back portion is a great solution to buying a new scraper when you can keep all the ones you have now.
That uncrustable sandwich maker can also be used for other things, like hand pies, large ravioli, etc. Anything you want to encase in bread or pastry. It Comes in two sizes. It's also more fun than opening a package. 😏
I think that the burger holder's purpouse is not to avoid messy hands per se, but to hold the burger components in place so that they don't spill out of the back of the burger as you take a bite
5:40 Kudos on the cameraman who literally just stood there, recording, watching a guy eating a burger for a whopping total of 12 minutes and 12 seconds.
Dan: lets see how this sandwich tastes with this excessive amount of mayonnaise. Me: Delicious! Dan: needs more mayo! And I laughed so hard soda came out my nose... 🤣🤣🤣
That mayo knife has been around for at least 20 years, and I'm glad Dan put it to the test. Now I know it's a hard pass when I see it on a clip strip in the condiment aisle. Rubber spatula for the win! A skinny rubber spatula works really well, too.
No they wrap them in paper because it's cheap and they're not allowed to put them in styrofoam containers anymore like they used to. There is no problem to solve. You have hands, hold the burger properly and nothing will drop out. Fast food outlets provide napkins standard because they understand some of their customers are slobs who don't understand how to hold their food properly
@@jrpueyo7531 Again, there is no problem to solve and thus no solution. Hold your burger correctly and it isn't messy to begin with. Furthermore, most burgers from chains are now served in card/cardboard flip top boxes, not paper wrapping. The paper wrapping is almost exclusively for the small burgers, and then is not wrapped as a holder.
That's why I always ask them if they can wrap it. It's horrible eating burgers with just my bare fingers, so a burger holder would be a helpful thing if I had non-wrapped burgers.
"I'm ethically opposed to putting catchup on hot dogs." Finally, a man after my own heart! Even if I hadn't enjoyed the rest of the video (which I did), that alone would be worth a like.
The hamburger gadget looks good to me though: its point isn't avoiding to get the hands dirty, but to avoid half the burger falling off while eating it while also making it not too tall to eat
I think I'd prefer the sandwich maker over frying pan because with frying pan you have to get the pan out, heat the stove, take out the utensils and then clean all of it. Not really something I could be arsed to do on an early morning before I go to work, maybe on a weekend but those days breakfast tends to blend together with lunch. It would be nice just to have that thing on the table like a toaster, put on the coffee-maker and scroll the news while I wait for both.
Easy solution, keep the pan out. Plus, are you saying you are not planing on cleaning the sandwich maker? Finally, what utensiles are you using in a pan that you are not using in the sandwich maker?
With an induction stove and a nonstick pan you would make the sandwich faster, and I highly suspect the cleaning is also faster, because the gadget looks like it is as simple to clean like the nonstick pan
@@abyeeve The gadget looks way harder to clean, it has multiple moving parts that may need disassemblement. Plus you may still need a pan if you want a toasted bread
I have an older version (no countdown timer, just a light that changes when it's done), and it's worked fine for a while. Way easier for the kids to use too.
@@abyeeve One thing though, a lot of the gadgets come with really cheap non stick surfaces. And it might be the audio quality but the sandwich maker sounds like it's made of pretty cheap alloy.
I wish Dan had his own youtube channel, I'm only subbed to this one because of his videos and couldn't care less about other videos/content. I wish there were more videos like these. It also sucks that they only a single "gadget review" video every month or so. They should upload more videos of Dan more frequently.
I've recently discovered the miracle that is Dan, the Design Expert when one of his videos popped up on my recommended. So naturally, I'm watching all of these episodes lol. I just wanted to say, even if no one sees this, that the burger holder might be useful for someone with prosthetics, where they might struggle with grip strength, either too light of a grip or too tight of a grip. If it's too tight, the burger holder might help them eat a burger without squishing it to bits. Yeah, the whole not being able to finish it would be an issue, but it would do something at least 😅
I'm from the Midwest and I feel totally called out. 😂 That being said, when I did eat ham, I don't remember putting ketchup on ham sandwiches lol. Only Coney Dogs/Chilli Cheese Dogs. I did like ketchup on almost anything as a kid, though. 😅
The breakfast muffin maker thingy... I'd do a recolor of the grip areas that are safe, so you have a visual hint at what is fine to touch and what is not. And yes a burger IS a sandwich. It's meat (and more) between two pieces of bread - circular and spherical bread, but still bread. The Burger Holder is also just GREAT. It helps if you have a juicey burger, you dun get a burger just falling apart as you hold it cuz the gadget supports the grip on the whole burger bottom, etc. There's an alternate version of it that is fully rubber I think and got a way smaller profile so instead of covering half, it's about 1/4th of the burger at the bottom. And it honestly works great. I saw it getting reviewed on the SORTEDfoods channel :)
Honestly for the burger thing, I think instead of a plastic holder, a cardboard one given by restaurants would be better (and by proxy something you could buy at the store like Styrofoam cups). I forgot which restaurant but I remember going to this one burger place that put their burgers in a trapezoidal cardboard container. Made eating the burger easier and cleaner and because it wasn't a semi circle, you could get through more of the burger without having to hold it directly.
Should’ve tried one of these Japanese sandwich cutters (from Daiso?). They have interesting mechanism, and also come with cute shapes such as panda head I think
I took a hit from my bong, sat there for the 20 most blissful minutes , I dont know how I got here what am I watching, but Dan is an awesome guy with such good energies , good night from me :)

@@MicukoFelton An even easier solution is to just eat the crust.
We don't have pigeons, I'd eat the crust out of respect for the bread maker
I love the sandwich cutter. My dad used it to make sandwiches for lunches all the time. Literally had it for years and it still works like a charm. And yes, we would give the scraps to the groundhog in the backyard.
I actually had that sandwich maker in the begging things great!
Nice to know the groundhog is well fed.
I wonder if they filmed this all in one day? If so this man is a beast with a endless gut!
The hamburger holder would be very beneficial for me, with tremors in both hands I have difficulty holding burgers. No joke. For the average person that serves no use, but for the small amount who are in need of assistance… We are grateful
I really do enjoy watching Dan present. He has an air of the subversive about him. Makes me smile, also interesting.
Wow, that pita burger holder idea is ingenious. I'm gonna start selling regular pita rebranded as edible no-mess burger holder. Nobody steal this idea, please!
seems like you want someone to steal it
Patent it
You just did from our host here. 😄
@Bastian Sanchez and at that point you've just invented the pita sandwich
If this dude told me he's been designing kitchen gadgets for 4 decades, i would instantly believe him
He literally has!
😂😂😂
If this dude told me that he invented a time machine I would believe him.
I love this man and i need him and his 40 years of gadget design in my life
Breakfast sandwith maker might also work as a double pancake maker.
The burger holder is so the fillings don't slip out of the other side while you're eating, but you could probably just hold it with a paper towel.
I really like this video format. The greasy left hand technique is genuinely good advice for finding product flaws.
Fr I’ve never heard of that and think it’s really smart. Even just as a thought experiment
The condiment gun looks like it would also be a nightmare to clean 😬 maybe that should be another part of the gadget testing
It made me think of meet the robinsons pbj gun
Its illegal
@@suphomies2661 that’s why I clicked the video,I didn’t read the title and thought they made the pbandj gun in real life 🤣
They’re kinda doing the condiment gun dirty, cuz I thought it was marketed as a joke/novelty product. Although tbh it’s not good in that respect either lol
@@monhi64 fake. Its illegal
Use a steel drinking glass or something like that to cut the bread
Isn't an almond a nut tho?
Or he doesn't like PEAnuts, like the one that comes in pea shaped pods. Cause how I grew up every nut it a peanut
@@waaaah-_- neither peanuts nor almonds are nuts. Almonds are a fruit and peanuts are a legume.
You gotta agree that Burger Holder does keep the middle of the burger intact and not let the insides spill out after the first bite.
I was thinking more in the direction of people with disabilities as potential users of the gadget but your point still stands of course.
I think this is what it was designed for
On the condiment gun make the pressure like that of a calk gun. Also my version of a pb&j is pb super thin layers on both pieces of bread to help keep the jelly from over moistening the bread. Just an opinion though. I trust in your expertise, and really enjoy your channel. Make croutons with the left over bread.
I really enjoy this series, but especially the part where he points out design flaws with his left hand. by doing that, he's also testing to see how accessible these devices are to people with disabilities that affect motor functions!
makes sandwich maker talk: "Thanks Dan"
Dan: "You're welcome"
the wholesomeness I felt
I can't lie, this guys great lol. he has a perfect relatable feel to him. sure he's doing the classic cheesy Infomercial nonsense, but his nonchalant and obvious satirical moments are pretty spectacular.
Dan eating a sandwich with "excessive amount of mayo" is the hero we need, but don't deserve. Thank you Dan
Have you tried just mayo and ham, mayo and salami, or mayo mustard and ham on bread. Delicious 🤤
That's not even excessive.
When I were broke I used to have mayo sandwiches as a treat....
Really good point!
This dude over here banging out burgers like a champion haha
Right? Just annihilating em like they was Tic-Tacs 😂

Don: **drenches hand in oil**

@@Aeroknight-sk2qg Dunno if YOU"RE joking or not, but ANYTING is slippery with greasy hands LOL!!!
I find it funny you don't see the irony in it LOL.
@@jad3415 the oil test is to see if the product is ergonomical or not. It's not.
What we don't know about Dan is that he's also a competitive burger / sandwich eater by night.
That uncrustable sandwich maker can also be used for other things, like hand pies, large ravioli, etc. Anything you want to encase in bread or pastry. It Comes in two sizes. It's also more fun than opening a package. 😏
I feel like cookie cutter can also be use to make circle sandwich 🤔can it?
My first thought was toaster grilled cheeses! Seems great for kids to make their own without the risk of a hot stove!
a cup or mug can do the same. You want it to be dull so it seals the edges @@NoName-yi5cs
I love that this guy is turning lunch into an informative product video. As the saying goes "Work smarter, not harder".
I think that the burger holder's purpouse is not to avoid messy hands per se, but to hold the burger components in place so that they don't spill out of the back of the burger as you take a bite
I think it's for kids who don't know how to hold a burger properly and only end up eating half of it anyway
5:40 Kudos on the cameraman who literally just stood there, recording, watching a guy eating a burger for a whopping total of 12 minutes and 12 seconds.
Hamburger holder broke an all time Dan record of 1/100
Dan: lets see how this sandwich tastes with this excessive amount of mayonnaise.
Me: Delicious!
Dan: needs more mayo!
And I laughed so hard soda came out my nose... 🤣🤣🤣
Would've been better if mayo came out your nose!
I like how when he redesigned the mayo knife, he essentially draw a silicone spatula.
That mayo knife has been around for at least 20 years, and I'm glad Dan put it to the test. Now I know it's a hard pass when I see it on a clip strip in the condiment aisle. Rubber spatula for the win! A skinny rubber spatula works really well, too.
Burger holder: I believe the fast food industry solved this issue already. Isn't that why they wrap the burgers in paper?
No they wrap them in paper because it's cheap and they're not allowed to put them in styrofoam containers anymore like they used to.
There is no problem to solve. You have hands, hold the burger properly and nothing will drop out. Fast food outlets provide napkins standard because they understand some of their customers are slobs who don't understand how to hold their food properly
@@tjmarx but we can say that paper holder was an accidental solution
@@jrpueyo7531 Again, there is no problem to solve and thus no solution. Hold your burger correctly and it isn't messy to begin with.
Furthermore, most burgers from chains are now served in card/cardboard flip top boxes, not paper wrapping. The paper wrapping is almost exclusively for the small burgers, and then is not wrapped as a holder.
That's why I always ask them if they can wrap it. It's horrible eating burgers with just my bare fingers, so a burger holder would be a helpful thing if I had non-wrapped burgers.
@@tjmarx well I have to tell my motorskill disorder to stop making me a slob😂 instead of using gadgets to make my life easier lol
He makes me feel comfortable, like my gramps telling me about random stories while fishing type of comfortable
"I'm ethically opposed to putting catchup on hot dogs."
Finally, a man after my own heart!
I wish Dan had his own youtube channel,
I'm only subbed to this one because of
his videos and couldn't care less about
other videos/content. I wish there were
more videos like these. It also sucks that

True professional, establishing a temporary hotdog-sandwich equivalency to test the gadget for what's probably it's intended use.

On the condiment gun, the plunger arm needs to function like a caulk gun. It should either be toothed or rotate.
That's how commercial sauce guns work.

He just does what he wants and I love this guy for that reason.
For a burger, all I do is use foil to hold them. I actually like it when places wrap their burgers because I use the wrappers as the holder.
Alright then what makes a borgir a burger if a borgir is a Samich,
Should’ve tried one of these Japanese sandwich cutters (from Daiso?). They have interesting mechanism, and also come with cute shapes such as panda head I think
Dan ate 3 burgers just for a video, this guy has immense ammounts of commitment.
I think the burger holder could be great for ppl with disabilites with a little more texture to avoid being slippery.
Could we get a video where Dan looks back on some of his inventions and see where he thinks he could improve them?
“What if the cutter was bread shaped”

Omg! I can make my own uncrustables! I’m buying that!
I always wanted to experiment with different types and freeze them. I’m totally making my own.
I had one as a kid and would make my own sandwiches all the time. They're really cool and fresh made PBnJ always trumps an uncrustable.
