It would be nice for someone who invent these kind of tools, knows how to use these tools. The watermelon slicer is first helt upside down, so that the "cutting" part slices first. This way, the tool movement through the melon can be done. When sliced, you can flip it back to pick out the sliced watermelon.

I agree, and I've seen that on most of these videos. I hope they add one too, because that's a huge deal for me. Even if it's the easiest thing to use, it's frustrating as hell if I can't clean it effectively by hand. We don't have a dishwasher, so it's especially important to me.

I would love to see Dan critique different types of Jack-o-lantern carving gadgets before Halloween! Compare different pumpkin saws (with different blade lengths and handles). Compare the best pumpkin saw to a kitchen knife and a electric jigsaw or drill. Compare how effective a large tablespoon is vs a pumpkin scoop. Then compare the better choice to one of the elongated metal beaters that attach to a electric drill to clean innards out of the pumpkin shell. This would help many people with dexterity issues enjoy and be able to participate in pumpkin carving fun with children. This would be one of the few times Dan could compare Halloween gadgets vs traditional kitchen utensils vs power tools. First off, good video. However, his redesign of the mandoline catch container would require the mandoline itself to then need redesigning. The odd shape of the one end is because the blade of the mandoline moves down so the middle has to be cutout, but the sides extend because it still has to be long enough to brace against the mandoline so it doesn't wobble about.
When designing, function should always come before looks. You should watch something doing whatever it does from every angle before deciding you can make it work or look better.

If I'm not mistaken, the hot dog cutter is not intended to cut all the way through. After pressing it into the hot dog, it should be removed in a reverse manner. When the hot dog is cooked, the body curls up beautifully. Of course you can do the same with a kitchen knife. There are many other types of creative cutting you can do to hot dogs that expand when cooked, and greatly delight children!

I'd just place the unit in a cake pan or on a cookie sheet & cut my whole batch of potatoes w/o having to empty the hopper after each one. The device seems steady enough that it isn't jumping around to allow slices/ fries to get under it & affect its' stability.

That will give the best of both worlds. I say a fold out crank because it keeps it compact for storage and than it is not some separate piece to get lost over time. An example would be on some of the very long measuring tapes and the nicer chalk lines.
