Dude! Just heard your new ep. Thanks for the positive and fresh sound-def need that these days. (Loved what you did with Granite Hands a while back, too!) Would love to hear how you think through and construct your songs.
Owane's great. His album Dunno has had some heavy rotation on my playlist. It's really cool to see young people getting into that jazz fusion style and make it sound their own.
Like others are saying, you're really working your way through the underground all stars of modern prog. Definitely would second the recommendations for David Maxim Micic and Jakub Zytecki. I'd recommend Someone else's Hat for David and Good I Bad Me (live session) for Jakub. Cheers mate :)
Owane is incredible. Ive played his albums to death and they still sound as good as ever. What a talent. Cant wait to see what else he does in the future.
Owane is probably my favorite composer/performer in the last four years or so. His guitar playing is so melodic, and fresh. His phrasing is out of this world. At least to my ears. He also plays keys and bass. The dude is just killer. It is impossible for me to listen to Owane and not smile.
BTW another amazing artist you would enjoy to DEcompose is a guy by the name of David Maxim Micic. He's another unknown beast of a composer/guitarist/producer!
I've been listening to fusion/jazz guitarists for almost 30 years now, i love Holdsworth, Gambale, Howe, T.J. Helmerich, Shawn Lane, Brett Garsed etc.. And now Plini, Jakub Żytecki, Govan, Tosin Abasi etc.. and Owane is my absolute favourite of current generation, i just love the music he makes and the playing style is soooooo chill and cool and tasty. Can't get enough of him. I recommend "Rock is too heavy", "Multivitamin pt.2" and his new single Waves. Aaand "Letters" by Jakub Żytecki is amazing too :)
Love the reaction! Been following Owane for years! You should check out David Maxim Micic - Who Bit The Moon. You'll love it! Keep it up, dude! Peace from Scotland!
Owane is incredible, his most up-the-middle work definitely sits in Yeah Whatever. Absolutely love that EP. I work to it, workout to it, smoke to it, etc lol. Not only a guitar player btw. He plays all bass and keyboard parts and he's equally incredibly talented at that as well. Keyboard solo in Born In Space will make your jaw drop.
I know that im late but I hope you get this comment. If you loved Owane, Pliny, Chon, etc. Then please give a listen to "Intervals" such an amazing band Aaron Marshall is a stellar guitarist and the arrangements are always so full of technical prowess and energy. Some tracks to consider would be "String Theory", "Meridian", "Libra", "Rubicon Artist".
The piano prelude is from the Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg's "Morning mood" (published 1875), incidental music to the play "Peer Gynt" by Norwegian playwrighter Henrik Ibsen, and yes Owane is also Norwegian.
It seems like every time I start enjoying an artist I used to like, you review their song 1 day later 🤣 i enjoy your takes on stuff a bunch man! Keep up the good work
Love owane, although sometimes his sound can require me to be in the mood for it because of some of the jazzier harmonies. Some more guys from this generations of guitarists that "young guys" like me really look up to are: jack Gardiner, sithu aye, nick Johnston, stephen taranto, Aaron marshall of intervals, yvette young of covet, I built the sky, David maxim micic. They're all people in the sort of prog rock, with a lot of fusion influence or math rock sound (like chon) that are really prominent right now. There's also a wave of fusion/straight jazz guys that are really killer like ben euson, matteus Mancuso, evgeny pozobhiy, tom ibarra, Joshua meader etc.
It is amazing that you coming from old school background, who defined standards, got the time to admire these new school stuff. . . it is great to see you amazed by the new talent. I can say try to "mentally" compare old vs new school stuff
DUDE. As a composer it would be amazing to hear your reaction to Moon River by Jacob Collier, his harmonic vocabulary is otherworldly and is beyond description.
Good stuff man. Good to see people who know what they’re talking about dig music I’ve always enjoyed. Could I suggest anything of Isis’ album In The Absence Of Truth? Probably Dulcinea, 1000 Shards or Garden of Light. That album and Wavering Radiant are brilliant. Even if you don’t do a video definitely check them out. Also you’ll dig Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus. Both great Aussie bands.
I never comment on RUclips but I have so say your content is so delightfully authentic. I love watching someone talk about a subject they are genuinely passionate about. I have to say this guy is amazing and his guitar solos remind me of the sound track to Ace Combat 4, (specifically this track - ruclips.net/video/9G1ob5jnuSo/видео.html). Would you consider checking out video game OSTs? Just like any other type of music they aim to create and mold emotion in the listener but are often overlooked because they are tied to a different form of media. There are some extraordinary impressive pieces of musical composition in the video game world and I just thought I could share a type of music I'm passionate about as well. Keep doing what you're doing man!
Damn, never played that game but thanks for the recommendation! That music reminds me of Jan Hammer (during his Miami Vice days) working with Owane lol
The drums are actually programmed. He's just really good at making them sound real. The drums on the "yeah whatever" album are real drums though, and were performed by Maciej Dzik
I would really love to see any song by An Endless Sporadic, preferably "The Assembly" on the fantastic Magic Machine! Love your videos, really making my day!
This is an amazing song. Will have to look further into this persons work. Would really appreciate your take on why this song melts your face off, Avenged Sevenfold - A little piece of heaven.
i like bands like this, there is also sithu aye and i built the sky who also make great tunes sort of similar to this. also cloudkicker is pretty tight
If you scroll down low enough under the summer jam video you can see owane answering to a comment asking about the drums that he used superior drummer 2 for this. So the drums are in fact not real, just well programmed :D
OH, you do more than TOOL!? I just found you. I asked about your background puppetry/set. Will you react to this one rock track, if I ask enough? LOL I don't even listen to rock. That's why. I can't even comprehend why it's so good it just is. How do we ask you for a request react? I can tell you the name, it was filmed and recorded live in one shot. I would love to hear your reaction to it!!!! Let me know if we can request!
This is great. Check out "Dead Soon" by Tipper. One of the the greatest composers of the century, if not the greatest. Audio wizard. Sounds recorded in Hawaii. No reactions on youtube.
Dude crazy, you just reminded me this exists. Cheers!! Truly. And just in case, I'll remind you hidden orchestra exists, y know, to return the favour hopefully :)
@@jamescombridgeart Hidden Orchestra's great. First heard about them from Tipper's subreddit. It has been a while since I've listened. Thanks for the reminder.
Tipper is great. Broken soul jamboree and forward escape were his best albums, was impressed with jettison mind hatch but then insolito and marble hunting kinda feel off for me so I'll stick too his mid years.
How about some U-Street All Stars? They're a Finnish jazz band, with the twist that they've replaced the piano with an electric guitar. They also won the prize for Best Jazz Band in Europe some time in the noughties, cant remember the exact year though. I'm not going to recommend a song though. I want you to really discover them by chance, as little as is left after this.
React to one of Integral Rigor's tracks (Zahir or Alast would be nice). This is an Iranian metal band, most of their songs are instrumental with a catchy eastern theme.
Have you done Thrailkill yet? He's an absolute master fusion guitarist, give a listen to something from his new EP Detach (I'd recommend the song Seed Turns to Leech).
Please listen to Domination by Pantera. It will make you wish Dimebag was still here playing guitar and his brother vinny on drums. Both Abbott brothers were the best in the business. In my not professional yet opinion
Considering your sharply attuned ear for detail and nuance, I have to humbly recommend: 1. Le Toit Du Monde by Gorguts. Owane! YES!!!
Owane is insane...Love Juice is my favorite track by him, just so funky.
That is a solid track. Has those beautiful sonic the hedgehog vibes.

And now he sings like a god too, his new EP is so refreshing and awesome =D
Out of all the new prog like Plini, Intervals, Polyphia, etc... I think Owane has the most music theory prowess. Second maybe only to Tosin Abasi
