This causes glitches within Upgrade, such as him having a voice identical to Ben’s despite all other transformations having unique voices, and not being able to remember Blueprints like other Mechamorphs And I have to say, Mechamorphs are probably my favorite species in all of Ben 10. They’re so interesting and versatile in such unique ways, they’re basically mechanical gods when it comes to technology. I loved the Retaliator Armor in Destroy All Aliens for the exact reason that it utilized a Mechamorph’s unique versatility. And when Omniverse rolled around, they clearly understood the assignment of what a Mechamorph would be capable of as Malware is easily Omniverse’s best villain
Upgrade relying on Ben's own mind for it's info makes sense, and it's also partially due to the fact that because Nanites are machines that behave like cells, they are unable to completely merge with Ben's being which is why his voice remains the same, albeit with an electronic filter.
Another problem of Malware was that he couldn't put together tech that he learned. If normal Mechamorp absorbs technology, disassembles and than reasembles it back. Malware can't do the last part and because of this tech crumbles away.
Mechamorphs are my favorite species in Ben 10 and in fiction generally. I love how unique abilitys they have, basically a Marvel Symbiotes for machines. And if you think about it, they are kinda terrifying, a parasitic lifeform that can merged with technology and use it agaist you and for some species being literally a parasites, until you have some super powers or more powerfull weapon then they aready have or use magic, you are hopeless agaist them and Mechamorphs can easelly conquer some fictional worlds like Star Wars galaxy and many other

Step 1: Transform into Echo Echo Step 2: Split into two copies Step 3: One copy transforms back and the other becomes Upgrade. Well that explains why Ben can’t use Upgrade to the fullest like other Galvanic Mechamorphs or even Azmuth’s dad using the Mechamorph armor. Although, what would happen if Ben as Upgrades merges with the Mechamorph armor? If the Mechamorph armor has its memory bank filled with the blueprints of other machines, then I’d say that will solve the problem of Ben not being able to use Upgrade to the fullest, although Mechamorph has the side effects of making the wearer more aggressive, which could potentially effect Ben
Such an underrated alien,i mean you have many aliens who have the same power like heatblast and swampfire can shoot fire, bigchill and arcticguana can freeze stuff, and ridiculous amount of electricity aliens, but you dont really get an alien that can manipulate technology, they're so unique, plus they have a sweet design, i get so happy a galvanic mechamorph appears on screen, my favorite for sure
The real canon reason why Ben can't both, A) Needs to cover the whole machine with it's body to "absorb" it, and B) can't keep any memory of previously absorbed machines, is because the Omnitrix works by mixing Thier DNA with the one of whatever species you transform into, this is not an issue for many transformation, but for upgrade the organic part of Ben's DNA stops him from fully merging with the machine
Fantastic video, Kiri. I loved this explanation of the Mechmorphs. Upgrade is my second favorite alien in the franchise. It would be cool if you did a video on my favorite alien Ditto later down the line. Maybe a video explaining or going in depth on each of the cloning alien's in Ben 10. Ditto's species, The Panuncian, Echo Echo's species Buzzshocks's species, and Slapbacks's species.

Question, why did you assume galvan b to be hive mind just because the planet is "like a giant machine"? Sure the planet appears to be coated in nanites, but one could argue that our planet could be considered an organic machine considering the massive amount of biological material coating our planet (and that's just counting the single-celled bacteria/archaea!). I'd like to think that whatever initial formation program with the nanites had multiple programs that acted seperately and formed different structures to replicate the various organisms needed for the Galvan to make their Moon livable. The mechamorph likely emerge due to the fact that there was no energy-expensive (remember that humans have approximately 60% of our nutrients go to neurological function so the galvans likely have similar if not greater energy needs for their brains) organisms to consume whatever was produced by the other mechanical life-forms, so the predecessors of the mechamorphs nanites likely just started consuming whatever products the other nanite-organisms made, thus allowing them to have more complex structure, thus creating an advanced feedback loop that resulted in their present humanoid forms. (and could even be the predecessor of the evolution simulation that's albedo later used to create the ultimates now that I think about it.) Heck, Ship's dog like design just be a larval form that shows what pre-humanoid mechamorphs looked like, similar to how frog larvae (tadpoles) resemble fish more than other land animals. As for why I'm making this headcanon up on the spot, I think it's just weird for there to be two hivemind machine organisms in the omnitrix (3 if you count the reboot) and I personally don't like the idea of Galvin b being the Great Link 2: electric boogaloo ftom DS9. That's something I thought about too. There's not really anything in the show to suggest there's a hivemind. I thought the reason Ben didn't have full control over upgrade was that he simply can't remember the nano scale blueprints of machines when he turns back into a human because humans can't do that. As for the upgrading being out of his control, I'm not quite sure what he's basing that on but if I had to guess I'd say the omnitrix isn't downloading instincts into his mind properly because it's a machine and also a fairly new species. Related to that, why did Ben never become upgrade when fighting the nemetrix because upgrade is one of the few aliens that can't have a natural predator.
I've always found the Mechamorphs similar to the Geth from Mass Effect (more likely the other way around, since I've known Ben 10 way before Mass Effect)

Their is also a glaring weakness that All Galvanic Mechamorph have, that is they can't possess sentient technology or technology that has defenses against them. Like, Upgrade is literally can't take over Alliance-Rojo and Grudge Match-Slix Vigma properly, as those two have shown to fight off against Upgrade's possession. Like, despite the incomplete transformation of Upgrade compare to a pure Galvanic Mechamorph, it is still a Galvanic Mechamorph who has the same possession and control of machines than any Mechamorphs. Hence why it is actually limited and a bit overrated than what people said when it comes to Ben or any Mechamorph like Malware vs tech enemies. Also, Nanites in Rex's world is actually superior to the Galvanic Mechamorph, as the highest potential is them literally manipulate everything, not just technology. Like, as if the Meta-Nanites aren't enough to indicate that. Even at its basic state, they can replicated Level 20 technology, and has shown to grant those with Nanites powers and abilities through manipulating their DNA. In fact, Joe Kelly literally stated that the Nanites are slightly more complicated than the Omnitrix, which is saying something when it involves the Omnitrix. Their are also a difference with Nanites than Galvanic Mechamorph, as the Nanites break thermal dynamics, as they can process raw energy into making more energy, which is Fats, kinetic, electric, gravity, any energy.
Aside from the... "curious" explanation regarding ants it was a pretty good video I have a quick question tho. To what extent do you think the omnitrix is involved in upgrade's creations? if at all? We see in the series that it is somewhay sapient and in Uaf it had its own database that manifested aliens so couldnt it be able to store data of upgrades transformations? or influence them with data it has/ pulled from ben's memories

7:10 well thats just blatantly false, Upgrade just cant use forms from things hes possessed later because the information is stored in his (robot) genetic code. which is reset when Ben stops being Upgrade. Malware has a genetic fault where he can't generate energy internally, and he can't merge with or detach him self properly from any kind of tech. Eh, I feel the "replaces atoms of the machine it merges with" explanation is a little overly complicated. I think the simplest explanation is just that the nanites merge with the machine on a less in depth level and the upgrades are formed both by the nanites moving parts of the possessed machine around and the mechamorph itself using its mass to become part of the new machinery, like Jury Rigg fused with Goop pretty much.

Their is also a glaring weakness that All Galvanic Mechamorph have, that is they can't possess sentient technology or technology that has defenses against them. Like, Upgrade is literally can't take over Alliance-Rojo and Grudge Match-Slix Vigma properly, as those two have shown to fight off against Upgrade's possession. Like, despite the incomplete transformation of Upgrade compare to a pure Galvanic Mechamorph, it is still a Galvanic Mechamorph who has the same possession and control of machines than any Mechamorphs. Hence why it is actually limited and a bit overrated than what people said when it comes to Ben or any Mechamorph like Malware vs tech enemies.
Also, Nanites in Rex's world is actually superior to the Galvanic Mechamorph, as the highest potential is them literally manipulate everything, not just technology. Like, as if the Meta-Nanites aren't enough to indicate that. Even at its basic state, they can replicated Level 20 technology, and has shown to grant those with Nanites powers and abilities through manipulating their DNA. In fact, Joe Kelly literally stated that the Nanites are slightly more complicated than the Omnitrix, which is saying something when it involves the Omnitrix. Their are also a difference with Nanites than Galvanic Mechamorph, as the Nanites break thermal dynamics, as they can process raw energy into making more energy, which is Fats, kinetic, electric, gravity, any energy.

I suppose it could, but with all the mistransformations and glitches Ben caused by slapping it, I'm not sure I'd trust it with that

@@OlliepopVTWhile that is a very good point, what if he just didn't get enough experience using his ability to properly choose his upgrades? While he did use Upgrade quite a bit, I at the very least can't remember him ever trying to train his abilities with the alien. Although I haven't really seen very many episodes, so I may have just missed it.

well thats just blatantly false, Upgrade just cant use forms from things hes possessed later because the information is stored in his (robot) genetic code. which is reset when Ben stops being Upgrade.
Malware has a genetic fault where he can't generate energy internally, and he can't merge with or detach him self properly from any kind of tech. So anything with energy or advanced tech is destroyed by him.
I said in the video that Upgrade doesn't store forms.

Eh, I feel the "replaces atoms of the machine it merges with" explanation is a little overly complicated. I think the simplest explanation is just that the nanites merge with the machine on a less in depth level and the upgrades are formed both by the nanites moving parts of the possessed machine around and the mechamorph itself using its mass to become part of the new machinery, like Jury Rigg fused with Goop pretty much.
