- The full details of all the parts that went into the build! Volkswagen USA asked me to modify a vehicle for the 2021 VW Enthusiast Fleet, which of course I was happy to do. The vehicle in which I have had the pleasure of building is the 2021 Tiguan SE R-Line Black edition.
This project was internally named at Volkswagen of America as the 'Tiguan RiNo Concept' after the River North Art District, in Denver, Colorado. It's an area in downtown Denver famed for it's artists, food, and more, and in terms of architecture, road surfaces, and access to great hills for mountain biking, not entirely different from where I live in Pennsylvania. Which means a mixture of some smooth roads, some potholes and gravel, and some great twisty backroads not too far away, all of which this Tiguan is happy to handle.

I'm convinced lowering any car makes it look incredible.
My neighbor has the exact same 2019 Tiguan R-Line as me - but I have mine on H&R springs and it looks like a different car!
This build literally made me want a Tiguan!

Tiguan is legit the best crossover vehicle out right now, with Tesla Y a close second. Love these mods and I can't wait to see someone go all out on a VR6 swap!

American cars lack so much compared to the rest of the world, but you're also blessed with some rally cool editions that we don't get. This is a cool edition, built by an enthusiast that makes it that much better!
I purchased a white r line two weeks ago and absolutely love it! Coming from a mark 6 gti I feel right at home and with plenty of room for the kiddos. Great review! And +1 on mk4 ambers markers 😂
But dude, seriously, I've been driving a stage 3 GTI for 12 years and just bought a Tiguan. Nice car but you can't compare it to a GTI. In fact you shouldn't compare it to a GTI! Unfair.
Thinking of going with a Tiguan seeing how I can have a bad ass car to take to meets but also put a tent on the top and go to a state park and ride some trails this is the best of both worlds and I'm hooked!

Added an APR Plus tune to our 2020 White Tiguan SE R-Line Black and it really made it come to life. Still with a 60k mile warranty - technically covered by APR, but there are dealerships that are APR certified, like Jim Ellis in Atl, and they will sell you the car with the tune. Highly recommended for you Tiguan owners looking for best bang for your buck.

We just got a 2021 Tiguan for my wife and she loves it, I like it too. And I would say it could do with more power. My ‘15 Golf just had a stage 1 tune done and it’s so much better, maybe that will be in our Tiguan’s future to solve that issue. Otherwise you did a great job, and better still most parts are available right now. Thank you.

I’ve done a few of these mods to my 2020 Tiggy. Went with a class 3, 2” hitch for the higher tongue weight capacity.
Did u have to cut a small amount of plastic of the lower rear bumper?
Loved this build. The bike stuff too. When are you going to slam a VW and chase the Tour de France-every stage-for your next series? I lowered my VW Alltrack and put Rotiform WGRs as soon as you got behind the company. I love the way my wagon looks. Thanks, Jaimie, for the good vibes.
All it’s missing is the 2.0T engine from the Macan. It was tuned for a lot more power.

2:26 - "Sorry America" 🤣
23:15 in regards to the 2.0t in this car being slow you say it's "mqb you can do whatever you want" but this has the 2.0t B cycle engine. I think more people have to emphasize that it's the b cycle engine with less power and different setup than the other 2.0t engines (golf r, gti, etc.).
I've read that the turbo setups are different so they arent direct swaps like the other mqb cars as well as other parts. Also may not be able to handle as much power. I'm not too educated in the 2.0t b cycle engine but I think it's worth noting
When you're hauling the bike rack, go into the settings and turn off Maneuver Braking. Then, you get to keep your rear view camera without it applying the brakes on you.

Buying a Tiguan 💯
I believe you can turn rear assist off from the settings in the cluster or the radio screen. I know you can on some of the 2020 Tiguans

I bought the OZR in 19' for my mk7 Golf R specifically because of this build. I loved it so much, I couldn't resist. Like it's a black R with Anthracite OZR's, I completely copied lmao.

What kind of paint did you use on the side step?
Do you have any insight to share regarding 20x9.5" wheels with 265/40/20 tires vs 21x9.5" wheels with 265/35/21 tires? I've got a 23' Tiguan R Line and I can't decide which wheel size. I have H&R coilovers and some suspension components like sway bar, mounts/bushings, etc. The goal is to drop it roughly 2.5" or so and retain a practical ride quality in the summer with these wheels in the NE but also aesthetics are a goal as well. With those tire specs the 20" wheels would have a 4.1" sidewall and the 21" wheels would have a 3.6" sidewall. Hoping to get some feedback on what might be preferable. Thanks!

My wife has the 21 SEL R Line Premium. White and white leather interior. The Nannie’s on it are absolutely obnoxious. The sensors and whatnot. Completely annoying. But radar cruise in traffic is really a life hack 😆 she is thinking about keeping it and modding it. 😁
Beautiful Tiguan! I'm looking at a Tiguan and noticed that spec'ing brand new it comes with a panoroof. It looks like your 2021 didnt come with the pano. am I seeing that correctly that it was an option in 2021?

Jamie, wondering if you could give me some advice on a wheel package for my new 2022 Tiguan SE 4 motion. I love the look of the Rotiform wheels that you used.
My question is, if I wanted to keep the factory suspension and not drop the ride height what 20" rim width and backspacing is the widest I could go and what size tires would you recommend. Thanks for any help you can give.

They are from UroTuning.com. - they are the same fitment as the last generation Volkswagen beetle. :-)

Can you lost the wheel spacers? Any scrubbing with that level of lowering and wheel spacing?
About to install solowerks on my 22 Rline black as well. Were there any install issues? Camber spacing wheels etc? Trying to keep the stick wheels for now. I did pick up 15mm and 20mm spacers.
Did you manage to install the solowerks? Interested.
I have the solowerks on a 20 Rline black with 15mm and 20mm spacers with factory 20s and every once and a while it will bottom out and that's on the highest setting. Other than that it is great and looks bomb!

It is not that bad. It's when you have a full ride that it really bottoms out. If you don't fill it full of stuff/people it won't be that bad. I did a 400mi trip w 3 people and it would bottom out every dip but after the trip no concerning damage to tires. Looks great tucked but wife made me bring it up a few notches lol
It's intresting that Europian Tiguan look's a lot diffrent from US Tiguan. We have diffrent bumpers, IQ.Led light are standard etc..but i still can't believe that you fitt 285 wide tyre😳, i have 2021 "elegance" package and 255 is maximum on 19" wheel

Alright, so I just installed this on my 2021 Tiguan R-Line and the drone is absolutely insane. Has anyone else had this issue? Did I do something wrong? Any input helps. I want to keep this thing on because it sounds great but if I have to listen to this loud drone in the car non-stop, I’m going to have to put the stock one back on.

Did you've to make modifications to fit that size wheel & tire? And,,, the tire size is the same all around?
I purchased the suspension and though looks insane lowered with the wheel spacers. Any thing over 40 mph on a dip or anything. She rubs, I’ve even raised the suspension to the very highest setting and still rubs. And that’s just me in the car. Add a full tank of gas and passengers rubs no matter how fast your going.
where you able to resolve the rubbing? I'm currently on H&R Springs but i dont want to do the switch if theres rubbing
Honestly no, still rubs. “THE” only thing I have not tried is the tire size and offset he mentions. Honestly, it’s hit or miss. I live in Dallas Fort Worth, and I drove to Norman Oklahoma. The road was fine couple potholes, but she never rubbed. She only rubs on a dip that’s it. It could be the biggest pothole in the world and it takes it like a champ no rubbing no nothing if the road is perfectly fine it’s great. I get better gas mileage than the sticker says for mpg when I bought it. On the drive I think avg was 35 mpg going 70-75. The car lowered looks insane I have it as my screen savor. And I swear my wife gets 10 questions a day about what is it? How did you lower it. I’ll can send a picture but idk how to on RUclips.

This looks fantastic. It's just a shame you have to get a tune to get any real performance out of the Tiguan. Would love to see the R come to the states.
19 is plenty on the Tiguan. The 2023 is amazing except the R badges are too small

USA gets different products, sometimes at different times. We have the VW Atlas and VW Jetta 7 that the UK doesn’t get etc. :-)
