  • This is an examination of a number of Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs), particularly noting the High Voltage Transistor parts being used.
After noticing an Optically Triggered TRIAC (MOC3021), an investigation of the circuit follows.
    Notes:
At around 9:40, I begin to talk about the CFL_Harmonics paper, dated May/June 1993.
I was misreading TABLE II, and therefore misrepresenting the data. There were 2 problems:
    1. The table lists 60Hz and high frequency CFLs. It appears that back in 1993, there were Compact Fluorescent Lights that used magnetic ballasts.
    2. I confused the "BALLAST FACTOR" with the Power Factor.
The Power Factors are in row 3, not row 6 of the table.
Whilst this does not change the thought processes used (0.62 stated vs 0.65 written), there is no real excuse for that. Sorry.
