    Thank you Father Joseph Mary. I have been struggling with this for over a year. My daughter has hinted about getting a tattoo and, as the youth who asked, I believed it wasa sin. She recently told me she had made the appointment for next month. I felt like a failure as a Christian and a mother. Your words and explanations are thorough as well as helpful. Thank you for this segment.

    . Most especially about past mistakes, including tattoos, hope to be a better person every day and be better for Our Lady & Lord. Thank you for your explanation, God Bless!

    Gotta disagree Self mutilation is contra the faith. Who loves tattoos ? The world and pagans. Produce good fruit through works and love not by some lame ink

      I agree with you. It is a certain symbol of rebellion, against the parents or maybe any particular order. It is not an accident that most of the satansists or prisoners have tattoo's. The popularity of the Tattoos goes in parallel with people moving from God. So I ask those christians who have a Tattoo and say they believe, against what you make the rebellion?

    When I was a teenager I used to cut myself and I am left now with many scars. I have covered most of them with tattoos and also just have many because I love them. I have most of my back done and one sleeve. I recently converted to Catholicism and I’ve been feeling convinced. It’s comforting to know it’s not sinful thank you Father. I love them and I think they are beautiful but I do face a lot of judgement from older generations. I do have a mermaid that has her breasts slightly exposed (not completely) and I was thinking to add some more hair to cover them as I’ve been feeling self conscious about it and it feels too immodest.

    I think this girl needs to think about her parents wishes. That's a commandment as well. It may or may not be a sin, but do what your parents are telling you.

    • @CapuchinFranciscans
      @CapuchinFranciscans  4 месяца назад

      This is true of most things; if your parents obligate that you go without some good thing then you are obliged to obey them because of the higher principle of parental obedience.

    When it comes to a lot of the laws in leviticus, I have difficult time making sense of them because of the context of the time. But it seems clear to me that tattoos are a sin. With all sins I have to weigh the depth of it by the only standard that works. And is supported by the Word. That the wages of sin are death. Tattooing seems like a sin that God can forgive us for, but we carry the burden of for life. We sin both consciously and unconsciously daily. And need to pray for forgiveness. With our hearts. I have tattoos. And might be compelled to get more. But I understand what the wages of my choices are. And need to be able to reconcile them with God.

    • @CapuchinFranciscans

      Levitical practices, while valid and binding for for the Jewish people - must be distinguished between ceremonial law, ritual purity law, and moral law. Moral laws (the commandments, prohibitions of sin) are for all time. But the New Testament's prescriptions supersede those of the old ceremonial law, hence why gentiles were not circumcised in the New Covenant.

      @@CapuchinFranciscans thank you. So basically, it's a violation of God's law. But God can absolve it through faith in Christ? If the faith is true. Which only God knows because only he knows our hearts.

    Sorry, Fr. Joseph,
    Father Gabriele Amorth, Romes main exorcist, would disagree with you on the subject of tattoos. His advice would be to NEVER get tattoo.

    • @CapuchinFranciscans
      @CapuchinFranciscans  2 месяца назад +2

      Exorcists claim a variety of things, and their claims are not doctrine. If a tattoo has some sort of demonic imagery, it should of course be avoided. However, if the meaning of the tattoo is not evil - then the tattoo is not per se evil.

      Temples have art on them? 😂 this is the problem with new Priests. Go back to tradition. The Bible literally tells you not to tattoo yourself like the pagans. You can try and sell it all you want in order to be inclusive and get your "likes" but one day you'll have to answer for it.

      @@CapuchinFranciscans Would I be judging wrongly, to be so forward to say that just because tattoos aren’t named specifically as mutilation, that the sins against modesty, vanity, moderation; of mutilation, idolatry, … to be judged by their fruits, is Just cause to say that tattoos are contrary to the intended purpose of the human body as temple of the Holy Spirit.
      For Catholic ‘art?’, especially if it is blessed, would this person who then sins gravely against the flesh be both guilty of mortal sin and sacrilege. If so, would this not be matter enough to prevent anyone from doing such a thing to avoid near occasion of sin?
      What about things like moms name where most people can’t see? Would this constitute as a worldly attachment?
      If I get something that’s totally benign and place it where no one can see it (vanity), why get it? Would that not be disordered curiosity? Cause to show it off (immodesty)?
      I have heard many arguments, I simply don’t understand why it’s ‘allowed?’ outside being forced upon someone, received before one is welcomed into the Church, or part of a deeply rooted culture that has not known Christ…

      One more question on the subject, or more of an observation.. If there was little wrong with a completely pure, hidden tattoo, why does the question of tattoos weigh so heavily on the conscience of those who are interested? I don’t have any tattoos, but I’m told it’s awesome and addictive..

    • @CapuchinFranciscans
      @CapuchinFranciscans  2 года назад +5

      You might want to reach out to Fr. Joseph directly on this question, but fundamentally I think you're vastly overestimating how connected to sin tattoos are. They're just art that decorates the body, and even a temple may be decorated with art. Historically there have even been Catholic tattoo artists.

      @@CapuchinFranciscans I can’t see the comparison fully, does a man made structure hold the same dignity as a human being?
      Just art is interesting, some exorcists have shown how demons can be attached to tattoos where the removal of the art was required for liberation. Or are you suggesting that only Catholic art is acceptable?

  • @_TheRam

    Yes tattoos look pretty and draw attention to oneself. But You’ll do well NOT to get a tattoo in this day and age. Tattoos begets more Tattoos. Keep your mind fixed on the Lord God and don’t fall for the distractions of this corrupt fallen world. All these things steal your away from the lord and salvation. Be careful not to attract bad things to oneself.
