Catch Ledge in Valhalla and other AC games

- So Valhalla has catch ledge... or "breakfall" as it's named in Unity.
I don't know if it can be done in Origins and Odyssey. I never managed it.
The player takes damage, and I've noticed you parkour down right after the initial grab, which I guess is more realistic. At least that was my experience.

When you jump to end it all but remember the AC series will never end.
meh, the new games are so different that you can hardly call it milking the AC formula
@Milk Jug Not as long as it's making money, but even then it would only go into a hiatus until enough time passes for Ubisoft to reboot it and milk it all over again
The franchise as it was initially intended ended a while ago, there isn’t anymore people in Ubisoft who want to continue that historical, mythical experience with badass characters. It’s just an open world game with mediocre generic characters now.
OP's is such a redundant comment at this point. It's well known what the AC games are at this point. If you don't like it, buy something else. However, I'd wager that you'd rather buy AC games and complain than give your money to something genuinely innovative but from a smaller studio.
@Paul Martin Yeah. It actually was a bad move in my eyes, and I was tired of the AC vibe. The historical setting for an RPG would have been really fresh but then AC slapped on top makes me hesitate to purchase.

Huh, I totally thought catching a ledge after a lethal drop still did damage - maybe I’m thinking of a different game? In any case, uh how are their fingers not broken immediately, like wow
cuz they cut one off silly
They're built different.
Well most of Assassin's Creed takes place in a videogame-like thing last I remembered.
How do you perform a leap of faith?? it's a video game
their fingers are stronger than their feet
"This AC our core philosophy was remembering that arms can take fall damage too"
"Every fingers a fishhook."
Ah man those were the times.
At this point they probably know and just don't want to fix it, since only high level / experimental players are doing it. They already calculate fall damage, this fix would surely be done in a minute if they wanted to.
So dumb that they took out its simple use from the first four games.
Look at Valhalla, you take damage from catching that ledge.
Look closely, in Valhalla it drenches out your health
There's nothing to fix it's the same logic as assassin's being able to leap of faith and any other unrealistic thing it's just cool and there's much more practical use to the old style of catch ledge on a button input in air + direct movement in the direction you want to catch the ledge, you can even catch a ledge behind you in the classic AC games like I do in these videos: ruclips.net/video/qf0ptu6cyF0/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/u78_lPGIwQ8/видео.html
it's also amazing as a way to quickly get down walls (actually way faster than unity parkour down) and just enhance movement you can side eject off walls and re-grab onto the wall using catch ledge like I do a bit in this AC2 parkour slice (ignore the fail at the end): ruclips.net/video/k6PorOX_QD0/видео.html
it's not just for saving yourself from lethal drops it was a vital tool of movement in old AC games, I wish this wouldn't have been so overlooked and forgotten same with manual side and back ejects and even letting you leap off any rooftop. full player control if you make a mistake that's on you, that's why I love the older games the new ones hold your hand a lot to prevent mistakes in movement and player frustration. Classic AC (1-Revelations) was 1 to 1 player control and highly cancellable, it was expressive and something you felt like you could master
Catch ledge was a mechanic directly tutorialized by AC1 and it tried to justify it's use in the gameplay narratively by having it removed from Altair when he loses his gauntlet implying they need some sort of guard in order to be able to catch a ledge the way they do without hurting themselves. later games just let you do it from the start which I prefer but it was something you earned from progress in AC1, you didn't get it back till the sequence 4 and altair's movement doesn't feel complete until then
As someone who used to parkour, my hands hurt watching this
I love these comparison videos you've been doing. It really showcases how lazy a dev team can get, and also how much care was put into a title that may have gone unnoticed.
Unity aged like a fine wine. What a gorgeous game with lots of great little details
I do like the fact you get damage in Valhalla for doing stunts like that as cus no way anyone survive could possibly survive let alone have a arm as it'll rip through.
Unity still got the best fluid animation tho...
But Thankfully Valhalla is a better game than Odyssey that for sure.

Because of the bad relase state, it is still so underrated. Luckily i never had any major or gamebreaking bugs.
Kinda makes sense, since a major part of the plot is that every assassin we play as is superhuman. So yea, the superhuman grip strength adds up, I guess

Ubisoft: The company where there game mechanics evolve backwards
I wouldn’t call changing up the formula and adding new things instead of doing the same thing every year is backwards
wouldn't that catch ledge on Vahalla a step up , you did take damage this time which show that main char is human not superhuman like other AC game

And glitches are backwardscompatible
What happened to your old videos? I loved the dishonored one! so sad rn
If they were ones with music in them, I'm afraid they got hit with the ol content ID.
Unity still has the best movement and I'm genuinely sad they haven't brought it back.
Maybe in a newer engine, incase you haven't noticed.. Ubisoft latest engine is not made or cannot handle those types of parkour mechanics because the world building and building interaction is diffrent.. even if they wanted to they can't and probably will not.. because of people (retards) thag complain aboht the old controls, they want stupid people to be able to play their game so they can net more sales.. if people got stuck with the movement in the older games its likely because they suck at the game... and this new type of structure makes everyone not suck at parkour.. which is sad.. now all parkour vids look the same they have no idenity or skill lvls anymore
Yes... it's more realistic... But it's also one of those fun little quirks I would've not seen removed. Imagine removing the lock-on suit cases in Hitman: realistic, but you've taken out a fun little staple of the series.
Hasnt the lock on suit been made to an actual gadget ? The missile suit can still be implemented in the game while not breaking any realism, the devs are pretty clever
@@kawabatayuri You're quite right, it's the best of both worlds, and it wouldn't take a large effort to find some assassin gadget or training technique to justify the safe downward descent of an assassin.
So it's actually an upgrade in detail in AC Valhalla? That's nice considering the detail downgrades in Watch Dogs Legion.
some 'catch ledge porn', as they call it.
Laws of physics? What are those? Oh assassin's creed, don't you ever change, oh you and your wacky grab a ledge at last moment and completely forget about gravity and inertia ripping your arms off

Rabbit, which is your favorite AC game? I think mine is Black Flag but haven't played much of the newer installments. Great vids as always, btw.
The grip damage is good but in valhalla you can just grip on everything even flat cliff, but it's still great game, I heard everyone's enjoying it.
Not enough damage tho so it doesn't matter
New Assassin games be like, we have this crazy fantasy story about ancient civilization, plus we brought in some fantasy monsters and norse Gods, but hey gotta keep that ledge grab realistic and deal damage!
