  • In classic hardcore, there is an addon called deathlog, which tracks which mobs are killing the most players. Back in September I took a screencap of the most deadly mobs, and in this video, we'll be over these most dangerous mobs and explaining why they are so deadly.

Harvest watcher doesn't just "appear" to have a larger aggro radius because it is higher level, it absolutely does, even compared to mobs at the same level. Almost any mob with "watcher, tracker, sentry" in the name or beasts with "starving" in their name aggro from further away than other mobs at the same level. Go ahead and test it with harvest watchers, or the blackrock trackers in redridge or the starving hyenas and buzzards.
Same way many mobs with "slayer" have an execute or mobs with "trapper" use nets.

Since there's near to no Horde mobs on the list, I'll throw in that Bael Dun and Boulder Lode mine in the Barrens. Venture Co. Officers hit hard, spawn tightly packed, and have a hamstring. Bael Dun dwarfs are close packed and have a few different deadly abilities like a three hit windfury. The Silithids also spawn additional mobs and the collectable spawns two every time.
In Stonetalon, collecting the eggs spawns two spiders as well, and with every spider kill there's a chance to spawn a level 26-27 matriarch, which is 5 levels over all other spiders.

Something that probably increases the Wendigo's rank in this list despite its non-running behaviour is that unlike other cave humanoids, it's the only mob type in its cave. So while the Stonesplinter Seers are the biggest threat of the Loch Modan trogg caves, Stonethumpers can steal some of there kills. By contrast, if you die in Wendigo cave, you died to a Wendigo.

@@brandoncastellano1858 I think he's still on to something. If you look at the spawns for young wendigo on wow head they are basically outside the mouth of the cave, not inside. Only like 2-3 spawns where a young wendigo is actually inside the cave. Meanwhile regular wendigo spawn EVERYWHERE all over the cave at a MUCH higher density. If you are talking about the actual cave itself, I don't think it would be a stretch to say the ratio of wendigo to Young Wendigo is like 99:1. Meanwhile the trogg caves are split much more evenly in terms of mob type density, usually 1:1 or 2:1

For the kobold miners, there’s another explanation.
If you only do quests without any special grind, you usually get to goldshire at lvl 5 where you get the 2 quests for the kobolds. And in the cave, some of the kobold miners are lvl 7 which gives them a big edge.
It is much safer to either grind before or do the lovers quest so you can get lvl 6 which is a big step up for most classes (rank 2 on main spells).
You can also do the quests in the kobold mine at the east which has the advantage of having much less competition.

    • @SuleimanTheIndifferent

I've noticed a similar thing on Horde in durotar. A lot of ppl die at lvl 6 to the tigers and raptors in the echo isle or the Kul Tiras Marines/sailors because theirs like 2-3 quests in each location but the mobs are all lvl 7-8, its usually best to not do either until 7 but there aren't many good alternatives like in Elwyn w the lovers quest, a lot of ppl just grind the pygmy crabs for the quest item (but the pygmies have only have a 15% drop chance compared to the bigger crabs 30-50% so honestly its more efficient to grind that quest at 7 to)
Main point being its always that first lvl out of the starting zone that is one of the toughest ones

    • @eddiewinehosen6665
      @eddiewinehosen6665 8 месяцев назад +1

And that's why you play like this in HC. If you start in durotar you do the start zone, then the two delivery Q's to Razor Hill, bind your HS to the inn there, run up to Org, zepp over to Tirisfal and do the start zone there, Deathknell, that should get you to lvl 7 roughly, but you'll just burn thru those quests due to level.
Then keep questing in Undead zone until you're almost done. Can leave the family Crypt and the last scarlet mission. should get you to lvl11-12. Then HS back to Razor Hill and just crush everything left in Durotar.
Then go back to Tirisfal and clean up and HS back again, picking up the delivery Q's for XR, head to Barrens and you'll get a nice head star arriving there at lvl 14-15. Run the start Q's and then head to TB opening up the FP's, getting the two Q's for Ragefire Chasm. If you start as undead, you just do it the other way around.
That will keep you ahead of the lvl curve for a long time if you also mix in some Q's in Silverpine with Barrens. Never do anything orange or red in Q way and go back and forth between zones doing green and yellow Q's. Might not be as fast but it will be very safe and after all, the main point in HC isn't speed, it's surviving :D@@SuleimanTheIndifferent

    @DOLamba 8 месяцев назад +3

I think naming Westfall as the most deadly zone is a false positive.
It's very likely that those mobs are so deadly simply because it's also the most popular zone. I've now successfully leveled through Westfall 4 times whereas I've died twice to f'ing troggs in Loch Modan on respawns. Westfall is more open and easier to escape.
Also most of your testing (like dmg from fireballs and taking harvester hits) you did on a character that was quite underleveled. Most people, even new players, don't do the Harvesters (lvl 14-15) before they're at most a level below the lowest. Same for Pillagers. I've never seen anyone trying to attempt them at level 12. And the biggest killer about them for melees is actually the frost armor that slows.
These stats also just show, that Alliance is extremely popular (because racials) and that the alliance zones are more in depth than the Horde equivalents (sadly) in classic.

It would be really helpful to do one of these videos for 'unknown deadly mobs'. For instance, mobs that mind control, reflect damage, pvp flag you, silence/stun packs, knockback off ledges, cockroaches that pull adds, or mobs that see through invisible.
Or even another video about the most deadly pulls in dungeons.

I find it really interesting just how many of these are alliance-side mobs. It makes me wonder if this is because of a majority of players being alliance side, or if the devs were thinking something like "the horde already has Barrens chat, they suffer enough".

Thought id make a quick note, if you’re fighting the Seers or the Pillagers as a warrior simply just shield bash and hamstring and you’ll be fine, also save rage for your next shield bash rather than spending it on heroic strike. The only real danger is if your shield bash misses, but even then you can still take at least two fire-blasts.

Hi Hirumaredx! Really liked the vid but anyone who has the addon knew most of these were dangerous.
Any chance you could do a vid where maybe the minimum level of mobs is 20 or something?
I Feel like that'd be a more interesting list personally.
Much love for your top 10's!

"Top 10 least dangerous mobs" maybe? Idk just throwing some ideas around ^^

  • @cattysplat

Alliance zones are just infinitely more dangerous. Most of the monsters were created when the game was still expected to be played like Everquest, where everyone grouped up outside of towns, that the open world was not meant to be soloable. Horde monsters by contrast were all designed much later in the game's design, which had changed to all be solo'd with lots of space between them, outside of some elite bosses.

Since all but one of these were alliance specific, you should do one for the Horde side. I'm doing a horde right now, got a war at 20 atm. I see SO SO SO many people pre-level 10 bite it to Fizz Darkclaw and Bayne and the lift in Thunderbluff/Undercity.

I believe the defias pillagers and trappers were overtuned because early wow developers intended moonglade to be an unofficial part of the deadmines where players would pass through moonglade and the underground hideout to reach the instance as a group. it was pretty common in vanilla for instances to have large groups of overtuned non-elite mobs stationed outside

Pillagers and other casters were meant to hit hard. They have lower hp, lower armor, and they have to channel the spell. How many melee hits within a cast? It's not 5x if you account for the damage from melee during the casting, but more like 2,5x. Dangerous but perfectly fine and was absolutely intentional.

9:59 you didn't mention that they also have Frost Armor. This slows melee attack speed and also movement speed. People often die to the Defias Pillager because they realize they can''t win but because they are slowed, they can't escape in time and get sniped by the fireball. Also, melee classes like Warriors or Rogues have less DPS on them as well. Just a small oversight you didn't mention that makes them even deadlier.

Pillagers were so annoying when I started playing since half the time they were hiding behind a cart or something so you had no idea you were even fighting it when you pulled the mob on your side of the cart. Suddenly you had a fireball in your face and the next was already 1,3 seconds into being cast.
