Hi everyone and welcome to another Bimmer Fixer video.
In this video I will show how to replace the Bonnet/Hood Struts on your BMW e60 and e61 5 Series. This is a nice and simple DIY job to do and is a great first-time job to do yourself especially if you are new to automotive DIY.

Does anyone know what that loose wire is for? I guess it's for a potential optional but what exactly?
@MikeRider777 Hi there, well spotted! So that wire should go to a little sensor called an AUC and what is does is close the air recirculation flaps when it detects outside air pollution or gas in the engine bay and then reopens them once the pollution or gases have gone. They can be problematic and fail causing the A/C not to function and I believe the previous owner completely removed it because of that. I will be replacing it and if I do a video on the AUC I will be sure to give you a shout out for noticing 😉
Does this apply for the boot struts? 👍
@James Mully Hi James not on the e60 its slightly different but I have done a video on the boot strut and spring on the e60 check it out if you have an e60. But it would be the same on an e90 and e92 and I believe the 1 series too. Hope this helps 👍 let me know if you get stuck, happy to help 👍
You don't need to move the clips when refitting they are designed to clip over the ball
