Really good and most accurate video that I've seen on how breeding works Couple of notes: 1. You can only get 255 points into a single stat 2. Mutation stacking is a really deceptive term. A mutation modifies the base stat permanently. Mutation "stacking" for lack of better word is getting the highest original stat (included mutated) from the parent to a baby with a new mutation on the same stat. This can be repeated forever if desired * see point 4 3. The mutation counter is not in any way related to a stat 4. You can mutate a dino forever (baring the official 450 level cap and the 255 points into a stat cap) as long as one parent has their mutation counter under 20. Example Male is has a mutation counter of 100 on the Patriarchal side and 0 on the maternal side this can still be breed and get a new mutation. You can also get a male baby with 100 on the male side and 1 on a female side than raise it and breed it with the females and get a baby with 101 on the male side and 0 on the female side (without a new mutation.) This is how you go on infinitely as long as you have patience 5. It is best to keep one parent side clean on mutations since the mutation counter is multiplicative. 2 on F side and 2 on M becomes 4 on each side unless another mutation happens. Example being mutated male with x number of identical stat females with no mutations. Only babies that would be kept for breeding is a male with the correct stat plus a new mutation on that same stat so + 2 points into the stat over the breeding male 6. Ark Smart Breeding tool is incredible helpful for breeding and works on official servers. You go to a dino and do Option than Export Dino off the wheel menu on the dino than you can import it into Ark Smart Breeding (need to create a library with the server settings and they have a preset for official) 7. You can "clean" the mutation counter at any point by taking a clean dino and breeding it until you get the stats to pass down and one side should have 0 on the counter unless you get a mutation during the process Source: I got bored and just started breeding on a high breeding settings private server and I have multiple dinos with 254 into damage. This took 2 or 3 years real time of breeding with ability to breed every 2 hours and forcing a mutation via the S+ Mutator @Chaotic Gaming I can make screenshots of my Ark Smart Breeding Library to show stat progression if you would like to see examples

Question. After finding a Dino you want to breed from the wild, should you level up the Dino before breeding it? And do the added levels you give to a Dino before breeding pass those higher stats onto the babies?
You can level it up if you want just right down in stats or use a spreadsheet to keep track of it before you do. The levels you gain from experience do not pass down to the baby's.
That's a great question bud. So creatures gain levels on tame based on the taming effectiveness + their level on tame. So a 150 at maximum taming effectiveness can top out at 224. From there you can place levels from experience gain up to 73. When you breed as explained in the video you can move the base levels from each stat down the line. The only levels that matter are usually HP and melee. If you are using for something else other then killing boss, other stars are good to. That level doesn't effect how many levels you can get from experience 73 is the minimum and maximum. Only creatures that can go higher are X- creatures 88 I think? You should be looking for the best stats as explained in the video to breed down when taming. I hope that helps I'd not ill do my best to explain this more.
Finally! A guide that broke down visually and verbally to such a point that I fully understand! I’ll give it a shot and be back to tell you my results!
I appreciate the video and information. :) The problem, in my opinion, with explaining breeding (mutations) simply is that it is not simple. ;) The second you mentioned spreadsheets, I knew I was in trouble. It seems that this is just not my favorite aspect of ARK and I'll likely leave this to a either a tribemate or trade with an allied tribe.
Its just to keep track of stats. It helps if you level them you can look back. You don't have to at all. Breeding is complex and generally isn't fun for most people 🙃. But its still handy to at least breed in the best stats into a breeding pair. Gives you a better then tamed dino and the imprint bonus is well worth the time sink. Plus you can breed a few extras as replacements when you lose one.
I’ve watched countless videos on breeding even though I am considerably experienced with it, by far the best video out there. You even explained the that when you get a female with the mutation you’re looking for that you need to breed it back with the original clean male to get the male with the mutation. I feel this is where a lot of ppl lose their way. 👍and subbed man. Oh and you explained the lvl cap and being able to tame low lvls and breed them into your lines. Are you aware there is an actual stat cap? even on unofficial with the lvl cap turned off.
@@Chaotic_Gaming I play on an unofficial cluster with no lvl cap so I don’t see why that would implement a stat cap but I can not confirm if it is a thing on official. However from my understanding and experience is if you hit 255pts in any stat u will not be able to put points in from Xp in that stat. If you stop at 254 though you can put every single xp level in that stat without issue. On servers without level cap you can do this for every stat.
I haven't looked into this yet, but it's a good tid bit of knowledge. I know of offical pve the mutations are insanely high and I don't think they could get that high for points with the level cap. But I wouldn't doubt it that they will try 😅

I’m going to have to watch this video several times, but I really appreciated the diagrams of sorts when you were explaining a part of stacking you Mutations etc. etc., I can’t even properly explain the confusing bits that you made less confusing, that’s how confusing they are to a noob lol. Thank you for this video it will help me immensely.

Had to watch a number of times, but I think I'm getting it. - Breed the best stat parents to get the breeding pair at 2:30 - Exact same parent stats = exact same child stats, without mutations, making breeding mutations super simple - Breed the breeding pair for more females, save useful mutations as needed Thank you for the 7-minute help! I no longer need to wade through movies with ads to get the information I require
Very awesome guide. Just recently got back into ark from not playing since vanilla and there’s so much new stuff to learn lol. Love how well you simplified this process
I'm not really in to the min/max stat thing, but I was interested in breeding for the purposes of making mounts more available across the tribe and having basic packs of raptors to make progression easier. When I read the wiki it seemed like simply raising a dino from an egg was horribly involved especially if you are still on primitive equipment. It even seemed like starting a dodo farm would be overly complicated and that I'd need to be actively involved with raising every single dodo egg. What exactly is the bare minimum required for raising an egg to an adult?
Hatching it would require heat control and the best for that is air-conditioners how many depends on the egg but I think 12 will hatch mostly everything. Feeding babies untill 10% is a must. The won't eat from troughs food must be in inventory. After that keep troughs full. Other then that keeping them safe from outside dangers is a must. Wild dinos love killing your babies.
So basically i start a line for melee mutations, a line for health mutations, etc and go back to the old strat for combining the best stats of the wild dinos and combine the mutated ones so that i get a baby with the melee and health mutations? Then i get a female and male of those and get infinite good dinos?
This is really good I’ve never understood mutations I’ve watched other videos on how to do it and they go way too in depth this is simple and helpful keep up the good work
Nice video! I have a question though, is it possible to start the breeding line from the offspring instead? Both my main breeding offspring female and male pair has the exact same stats and level, breeded them and put another 9 females with the same stats and level in the breeding line. I thought this might help in controlling the levels being too far apart when babies are born. The parents level are 145 & 150. Now my whole breeding line is all level 221 >.< please let me know if this method is possible. Thank you very much!
Yes thats the idea. Take your best stats from each dino make a pair that has all the best stats and make sure they have the same samtats and level. This makes seeing new mutations so much easier.
Hey! I have a question. I'm hitting a wall while breeding my allos, I managed to get 4 melee mutations but then nothing. Has this something to do with the fact that I keep breeding my unmutated females with the new 4 mutations-male? Is the probability to get a new mutation getting lower and lower the more mutations is stacked on my breeding male (There are only 4)... do I need to breed him with mutated females of the same level? I'm kinda lost tbh
Sounds like you're doing it right bud. Just having some bad luck. keep at it you will get it. The process is entirely random. I have had some bad luck myself. Never breed a mutation with a mutation or you will hit that cap sooner.
@@Chaotic_Gaming phew that's comforting, for a second I thought I was really doing it all wrong. I'll keep at it then! Wish me luck and thank you for taking the time to answer. great vid btw, keep at it as well!
You told no lie when you said, ull try to end the confusion about breeding. Informative and easy to understand... keep up the good content. Earned my like and subscribe 👊
Good info, i'm doing a lot of what you are talking about, and mutations have been made even easier thanks to the Incubator. Now you can see the new mutations (if any are added) before they are hatched, so saves time, if they have it, hatch it, if they dont just crack the egg, saves me a ton of time.
Yes. Very helpful. I'll be sharing this with my crew that is starting ARK, hopefully it'll get you some more views and possible subs. I know you've got one from me!
Pick the best stats and breed until you get a baby with them. Then do it again until you get a baby with them again! Then breed some more until you have a breeding pair with identical levels and stats.
One thing that I find helpful is using a level 1 for the female instead of a combined line, that way the levels lower and all the stats except the one you want on each line are the lowest possible so you know instantly where the mutation went without having to use Dododex on every single mutation. That and the stats you don't want should already be at zero on all of the stat lines you want, so easier to combine them later and get only the ones you want.
TTHHHAAAAANNNNKKKK YYYOOOUUU!!! I finally understand how this works after 4 hours of research my small brain didn’t understand other videos but small brain got bigger when listening to this vid 👌
Try this lovely stuff when head injury makes remembering a pain. Paradox is the smart fella with breeding in my setup. If I see this enough; it may just soak in.
@@Chaotic_Gaming could I ask, is it easier to get stats or colour mutations. And once you have breeding parents, I get confused you receive a daughter and son then breed them 2 for daughters and so on? Who is the male to breed with after?
Check out my latest breeding guide bud see if that is more helpful and if you still don't quite understand ask me there and I'll explain it the best I can
Glad I could help. But this guide is outdated. I have a updated guide that has considerable more information with all the new content updates since this video was released.
So I just got a breeding pair and I breeded them and got a male and a female both the same level. Now with those dinos do I make them a breeding pair and keep repeating the process?
Very helpful video, cleared a lot up. Mutation section was confusing, but I think I understood? Will be watching another video strictly on mutations though, unless you have one😃
@@Chaotic_Gaming question, what's the highest hp and atk for a rex? Also, need some clarification, with a Rex for example. 1) let's say our tamed male has 10k health, and female has 300 attack, we want to breed those 2 original tames until we get a male and female baby with both of those stats in each, creating our breeding pair, correct? 2) Once you have the breeding pair described above, what's the purpose of farming out a bunch of female babies? 3) When it comes to mutations, we'll be using the Rex's for boss fights, so we want a stat mutation on health and attack, how many mutations for each of those stats can we get?
@@adamchristopherson5242 2. The purpose of more females is they lay more eggs at once. I've seen bases on official with 300 plus females and 1 male. Greatly reducing wait times.
@@adamchristopherson5242 3. For mutations you want one dedicated line for hp. And another dedicated line for melee. You can breed up to 255 levels per stat. But there's a soft cap of 20 mutations from one line. From there you can no longer get a mutation from that parent only the creature it mates with. So having a bunch of females with no mutations is the only way to gain the next mutation.
@@Chaotic_Gaming So. I have 2 megatheriums. Female and male and male is 20 and female is 23. How would I be able to get a noticeable mutation that is a stat mutation. I just want my first 20/20 mutation and still confused. Thanks to you I got the hang of it but still a tiny bit confused on this.
@@Chaotic_Gaming yeah like breeding what together, i ofc know breeding them but like which ones? For example lets say i got 15 muts on Health and Melee and i want to make a this my main set, do i breed till i get the same set of muts with opposite sex?
also pro tip 🤓 kibble can be used so long as its above what your dino calls for. i use all rex egg yuty egg or deino eggs. since rex lays fast and works for 98% of dinos and yuty and deino work for every single dino. plus they are the easiest kib to mass produce. just need a bronto or good berry getter and lemons for rex eggs cant remember what crop for yuty deino eggs?
Normally it’s hard for me to understand these bc I’m a 9 year old who loves ark but now I understand so thx I’ve been planing on breeding baryonix’s so thx
You have to keep breeding until you get all the stats you want into both a male and female that are exactly the same level with exactly the same stats.
I usually don't get the point the first time around, so I'll watch videos over and over until I understand. So I have to thank you for how short and informative this video is! Also, I'm on abberation with some equus and I have a question. I never knock them out; since I'm on singleplayer. Is there any way to tell how many stat points are in an equus while riding one? And if not, should I invest in a megalosaurus to bring an equus to a pen for knockout?
I'm assuming you don't have access to mods. You will unfortunately have to tame it. You can use the egg incubator to see live birth stats now on official no mods.
Right you are, I do not have mods on my game. I'm also on xbox if that information helps. In my crafting menu, it does say that I need to go aquire the egg incubator on genesis 2. I know you can download a character to a map, I just don't know how to do that yet. Any extra information on that will be appreciated!
Took me months to write the script. Edits and rewrites. Took me 4 days to edit this. Probably the most work I put into a video yet. I'm glad it's helped a lot of people.
so if you want to have a hp and melee and i have bred the good ones into the male and female who have the same level and stats and i breed them until i have gotten a mutation and after i have a 1 hp male i switch the male and use the 1 hp male to breed the clean females until i have 20 hp male then what do i do if they get melee and how do i start doing melee if i got the 20 hp mutation male on 1 side of the family tree and i want to use the other side how do i start to do melee and combine the hp and melee
Not how it works. the mutation counter is static. It follows the baby. It doesn't go back to the original parents. The baby get 1 counter when it gets a mutation from a parent plus any mutation counters those parents have. If dad had all the previous mutations of 19 and it got a mutation from mom putting it at 19 pat 1 mat. It's still capped and will no longer produce a mutation while breeding. Because it's baby will be 20 pat or mat. Now as long as that baby breeds with a 0 mutation it will still produce a mutation from it. Just only gets a mutation from the clean one instead of a chance from both
Great guide! One question, once you start stacking mutations and replacing the original stat male dino, do you still keep adding females to the group as long as they don't have mutations? Or do you just keep the original set (before the first mutation)? Also, in your video, you got a female with a mutation and then bred it to get a male mutation of the same health stat category. What would you do with that Female? Discard it or include it in the breeding group? Thanks for your help!
this was the best one so far! so I'm just starting out that means I'm looking for the dinos with the best stats after there tamed with the taming bonus levels?? the stats I put as they level up do nothing right?
At 0:06 you are hovering on your Dino to look at the taming quick menu or whatever. How are you displaying all the stats as opposed to just a taming and torpor progress bar?

Had to watch a number of times, but I think I'm getting it.
- Breed the best stat parents to get the breeding pair at 2:30
- Exact same parent stats = exact same child stats, without mutations, making breeding mutations super simple
- Breed the breeding pair for more females, save useful mutations as needed
Thank you for the 7-minute help! I no longer need to wade through movies with ads to get the information I require
You are welcome bud. Glad it helped.
Very awesome guide. Just recently got back into ark from not playing since vanilla and there’s so much new stuff to learn lol. Love how well you simplified this process
Glad it helped you out bud 😁
This is probably the quickest and best breeding video I've come across
Glad it helped bud
So basically i start a line for melee mutations, a line for health mutations, etc and go back to the old strat for combining the best stats of the wild dinos and combine the mutated ones so that i get a baby with the melee and health mutations? Then i get a female and male of those and get infinite good dinos?
Correct 😁
This is really good I’ve never understood mutations I’ve watched other videos on how to do it and they go way too in depth this is simple and helpful keep up the good work
Glad it helped
Under-rated video, i was so confused before this video. Thank you so much
You're very welcome!

Good info, i'm doing a lot of what you are talking about, and mutations have been made even easier thanks to the Incubator. Now you can see the new mutations (if any are added) before they are hatched, so saves time, if they have it, hatch it, if they dont just crack the egg, saves me a ton of time.
Yah the incubator makes breeding so much easier
Never thought I would ever want to see a T chart more in my life time 😆lol . Thanks for the information

This is a good guide! Short and sweet and pretty funny.
Awesome to hear bud 🤘
How do i get the breeding pair? or i can breed without the same levels and stats?
Pick the best stats and breed until you get a baby with them. Then do it again until you get a baby with them again! Then breed some more until you have a breeding pair with identical levels and stats.
One thing that I find helpful is using a level 1 for the female instead of a combined line, that way the levels lower and all the stats except the one you want on each line are the lowest possible so you know instantly where the mutation went without having to use Dododex on every single mutation. That and the stats you don't want should already be at zero on all of the stat lines you want, so easier to combine them later and get only the ones you want.
Ty. This is the only one I have found that made sense.
You are welcome bud
Cheers bro im getting back into Ark and this was an awesome refresher 💪

Yep, this guide pretty much tells you what you need to know
So I just got a breeding pair and I breeded them and got a male and a female both the same level. Now with those dinos do I make them a breeding pair and keep repeating the process?
As long as there stats are the same you now start looking for your first mutations. They will be 2 levels higher then the parents

@@adamchristopherson5242 1. Is correct 👌
This was awesome! totally didn’t know you can have multiple females breeding with one male, thanks🤙🏽

also pro tip 🤓 kibble can be used so long as its above what your dino calls for. i use all rex egg yuty egg or deino eggs. since rex lays fast and works for 98% of dinos and yuty and deino work for every single dino. plus they are the easiest kib to mass produce. just need a bronto or good berry getter and lemons for rex eggs cant remember what crop for yuty deino eggs?

Its understated in this video just how long this can take, getting exponentially longer on larger dinos.
I would need an hour to properly explain the length it would take depending on your dinos and your breeding speeds 🤣
This video is friggin mint bud!

This is a really great video. It is simplistic and right to the point, But I’m confused about how to obtain a breeding pair.
You have to keep breeding until you get all the stats you want into both a male and female that are exactly the same level with exactly the same stats.
Great guide. Thanks Chaotic Gaming

Nice video dude :)
Thanks bud. Glad you liked it.
Transmitter you can upload your items and character there. I recommend looking up a guide for it. I don't have one unfortunately 😔
Thanks for the help. And hey, if you'd make a video on that, I'd watch it! I've got no clue what I'm doing half the time anyway.

so if you want to have a hp and melee and i have bred the good ones into the male and female who have the same level and stats and i breed them until i have gotten a mutation and after i have a 1 hp male i switch the male and use the 1 hp male to breed the clean females until i have 20 hp male then what do i do if they get melee and how do i start doing melee if i got the 20 hp mutation male on 1 side of the family tree and i want to use the other side how do i start to do melee and combine the hp and melee
By pulling back out the original male and starting a melee line. Then once that is at 20 breed the 20 hp and 20 m together

Best video ever thank you so much much love brother👍😁
You are welcome bud. Glad you loved it
Will moving the mutation over to the matrilineal side of the breeder male make a difference to get more mutations passed 20?
Not how it works. the mutation counter is static. It follows the baby. It doesn't go back to the original parents. The baby get 1 counter when it gets a mutation from a parent plus any mutation counters those parents have. If dad had all the previous mutations of 19 and it got a mutation from mom putting it at 19 pat 1 mat. It's still capped and will no longer produce a mutation while breeding. Because it's baby will be 20 pat or mat. Now as long as that baby breeds with a 0 mutation it will still produce a mutation from it. Just only gets a mutation from the clean one instead of a chance from both
@@Chaotic_Gaming now i get it 100%. Thanks alot

You can add more females to the group if you feel it's necessary, as for the mutated female she's treated the same as the mutated males and put away.
this was the best one so far! so I'm just starting out that means I'm looking for the dinos with the best stats after there tamed with the taming bonus levels?? the stats I put as they level up do nothing right?
Correct. You got pre tame levels then the bonus levels and finally experience gained levels (they do not pass down)
Perfect short guide.
