  • An early morning start to our day, snowy, gloomy, BUT The Bobcat CT2040 has already made an impact on our firewood production! I still have a big learning curve to learn how to work the loader as I move logs to the Japa 365 Pro. The CT2040 will play a large part with our firewood but will certainly be able to do other things around the yard.

      Looking good Joe. I’ve operated more types of farm and construction then I can remember, each machine handles differently so they all take some time to get used to operating. Safety is the highest priority when using equipment. Have you considered loading the rear tires with liquid? Years ago calcium chloride was used but it’s not used anymore, it’s been replaced with something else. Best of luck with your new tractor-Will

    That tractor is a game changer for you. Do what I do for a ballast, I use a set of forks and logs for ballast. You can buy an adapter for the 3 point hitch that allows you to use your SSQA attachments on it. Titan has one. Also a leaf bower would be a fast and easy way to clean the logs.

    Pretty soon that tractor will become second nature, just like the Yapa. You've about convinced me. Six years ago I bought a '95 Case IH 485 for $12k. After two trips to the dealer replacing the injectors, radiator, rebuilding leaky hydraulics, & replacing the fuel line (brakes never worked, and the 4WD just went out), at some point, new (or at least newer) is starting to sound pretty good!

Found 1 gas station in the town where we live that has it and I always go there for fuel. Also would not hurt to have an extra fuel filter around just in case. Joe, it takes a little time to get use the controls, I had a 580 Case front loader and backhoe for 20 years, I sold and when I retired. 23 years ago I told the wife I wish I had my backhoe she said go buy one, I brought a Mahindra it’s just a little bigger then your Bob Cat but the control are totally different. You’ll be surprised how big a log you’ll be able to lift, use it to left those big logs to cut them in half it will save your back. Have fun as I know you will.

    Hi Joe. Congratulations on the new tractor. Definitely a great addition to your equipment list. When your budget permits you might want to look into ballast (beet juice) for the rear tires on the Bobcat. You can sell the ballast box. I’ve owned 2 compact tractors and has really improved performance for me. Just a thought. Be safe and keep the videos coming.

    For your compact tractor, check Homestead Implements Pinnacle brush or root grapple, they come in 60'' and 72''. Weight is essentials not to impede on your loaders capacity too much.

  • @mitch_smith
    @mitch_smith 3 года назад +1

    I'm sure others will mention it, but having the same size compact, I highly suggest filling the rear tires. there are many options, some of which you can do at home via a pump and buying winter grade windshield wiper cleaner from your local walmart. I chose the beet juice option, as it is heavier and I didn't want to have extra feet of clearance off the back of the tractor. I did try using a 3 pt mounted ballast, but these tractors are so maneuverable, it really hinders the functions.

    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I extend to you every best wish as you start this new chapter in the growth of your business. It pains me to see your beautiful Japa covered in snow. Is it not a viable option to throw a tarp over it. A back pack blower would be handy to remove snow from all the nooks and crannies. When you get a grapple keep in mind the weight of the grapple. Rim guard is a good ballast for tractors. It's made from sugar beets. As cheap as I am when I get a tractor I thought of growing beets and juicing them for ballast.

      Another option for wheel ballast is window washer fluid. The winter blend won't freeze and won't corrode the wheel. It was recommended to me by a tractor dealer. Watch for it at the end of the season (1/3 price) at places like Walmart. I cleaned out their clearance aisle filling four carts! Used a fitting Gempler's with a short hose, submersible pump and bucket.

  • @mycrazycutz

    I think the next thing in the progression needs to be a live deck as from japa or even one of the china knock offs... range road etc... or at least a loading platform made of timbers,that would work with the existing infeed ,so you can load up a few logs and just process ...
    As for a grapple you will find it still needs to be fairly centered especially with a smaller tractor.. hard on the loader arms of not.. I do think pallet fork style grapple is the best for logs, as opposed to brush or root rake... but not as universal... all the best

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  3 года назад +2

      I think a live deck is in the future Craig. Not sure when but I hope to get one. Same for the grapple. Joe
